  1. I run a Trojan in 9mm and load my rounds to 1.15. Very reliable so far.
  2. Thanks for that. I assume you meant 1.1 to 1.2 OAL? I'll have to search the forum for info on to make 40 cal in a SS work. I'm sure there is a lot good info out there.
  3. Couldn't say no as the price was right and they seem to be getting scarce so i dived right in. Now for some mags and a few comp friendly shinny things, where to start? Thanks for all the responses .
  4. Just found a new STI Trojan in 40 at a local store so going to check it out. Apparently STI don't make the Trojan in 40 cal anymore!
  5. I was thinking along the lines of an STI Trojan myself. Not too keen on the SIG as I had customer service issues with them once upon a time. I'll check out the Remington 1911, thanks for the info.
  6. Gents, looking to shoot single stack 40 cal. Any recommendations for an off the shelf gun. Can't have a lightened slide nor an extended dust cover as I want it to be IPSC compliant for those little trips overseas for matches.
  7. Keep in mind that platform and mags were designed around the 38 supper cartridge not 9mm. Bullet stacking on a 9 will always be an issue. That's why the barrel fit to frame is so important aswell as keeping your rounds long goes along way to helping reliability.
  8. The way the last 9mm round or two sits in a SS mag is very flat and is under a lot of tension. Ever tried to unload with your thumb a fully loaded 9mm mag it's difficult, they even make a special tool to strip the rounds out. So this is what your slide is trying to deal with when loading from the slide lock position. When you have 7 rounds or less in the mag the round is under less tension and presents itself nose up a little more making it easier for the slide to strip the round off. i assume if you release the slide by hand with the slide fully reward it will strip a round off a fully loaded mag ok? So the issue is the slide does not have sufficient energy from the slide lock position to overcome the forces on that first first round to chamber it. So now you have to increase the energy of the slide and reduce the forces placed on the first round and the angle it presents to the feed ramp. Here are a few things to check. Try running the heaviest recoil spring you can to eject the case reliably. If you are running super light loads then this will be an issue. If so try running so factory 9mm through the gun with the correct recoil spring for those loads and see if you still have the same problem. How long are you loading your ammo? I assume you are reloading. Try longer loads OAL 1.15 and see if that helps. If none of this works Then you can try to reduce the friction on the round as it sits in the mag. Try polishing the inside of the mag and the feed lips. You can try and adjust the lips so that the round sits a little more nose up but be careful here as you can ruin a mag by doing that. I suggest you buy a Single Dawson mag and try it they usually work straight out the box. If none of this works then send it to a gunsmith.
  9. Have you tried your mags in a different gun. If it does the same then Sounds like the mags needs tuning.
  10. Spoke to the DP very helpful and they do a base pad specifically for the IPSC (international) mag well. So if any of you USPSA shooter who currently don't fit the box this might be a good way to go, especially as the IPSC is slightly smaller than your box.
  11. Can't use the Dawson ice mag well for IPSC Classic division as it is dimensionally incorrect, I will have to use the DP IPSC version which is 34.9mm wide (35mm Max allowable as per rule). I don't have any magazines at the moment so looking for a recommendation for 10 round 9mm single stack mags and bases that will fit the DP IPSC mag well. I'm shooting an STI Trojan in 9mm. thanks lads for any thoughts you might have. cheers john
  12. Shooting IPSC Classic division and want to purchase the Dawson IPSC mag well/mainspring housing. Any suggestions for which magazine and comp base pad to buy that will work with this mag well and still fit the IPSC? Thanks in adavance.
  13. The 2 main issues that most people shooting SS get busted to open for is their mag and the gun weight. In the case of the magazines too big a base pad will stop the pistol fitting in the box. I saw a guy get busted to open because the grip tape he had on his base pad was enough to prevent it fitting in the box. So check your mags and watch out for the weight!
  14. Freedom ventures? Not surprised as they were far from helpful to me!
  15. Would the STI 1911 Hex Tac 9mm qualify for USPSA single stack division and IPSC classic division?
