  1. A guy I shot a match with last month brought his Sub2K .40 S&W. He's a Keltec guy and seems to bring something different each month. I'm guessing he leaves the .40 in the truck for tomorrow's match. That thing looked painful to shoot, I don't think he enjoyed himself at all. I've seen a couple others with them in 9mm but they usually upgrade after a match or two. I certainly wouldn't buy one for competition.

  2. I would keep the S2. Here's why. . .

If you put all your eggs in the rimfire basket, what happens when/if that runs out? Much of the .22 we shoot comes from the U.K. and Mexico. If imports are restricted or banned as has been threatened, then at a minimum .22 will be even more scarce and very expensive. I only shoot S.C. as well(RFPO, PCCO, CO). If I cutback on live fire practice I have enough primers and .22 to keep myself and my daughter shooting 2 matches per month for this season. As a fallback, I'll focus only on centerfire and leave the .22 for her. Once I run out of small primers, I have a couple thousand LPP's and can shoot limited as a last resort. Seems like keeping caliber/ammo options open makes the most sense right now.

  3. I bought a Taccom upper w/ ULW barrel, ESS bolt, Extreme Ultralight Handguard, and their adjustable recoil system. Lower is a FM9, with CMC PCC trigger and Hogue stock & grip. Weighed 5lbs before adding a C-more. I could've saved a little weight by using a different stock/tube/grip/optic but didn't feel it was necessary. So far I'm very pleased, the dot barely moves when shooting 135gr ammo I load for my pistol(135PF).

FWIW, I called even though the upper was showing as out of stock and Tim was able to get me taken care of.

  4. I have two polymer c-mores. One click switch on a 10/22 and a std switch on a pcc. I actually prefer the standard switch, its easier to turn on and off between stages. Never had a problem with either of them. I use a Holosun 507 on my centerfire pistol.

  5. I started in CO, but the allure of PCCO, RFRO, and RFPO are undeniable. Fast is fun. . .
My point wasn't so much that the shift is due only to the shortage, just that it was an easy decision to focus on rimfire for now. That's what led me to buy a rimfire pistol.

  6. Oof. Centerfire can on a rimfire? Does it disassemble for cleaning? We have a direct thread rimfire can, so while I don't "need" the comp for a .22, it's nice to have the threaded barrel.

I'm going to try to find a cheap Axiom and go from there. This build is pretty close to exactly what I was thinking of doing. Thank you.
It's a form 1 30cal sub can(my first) and while heavy(15oz), it suppresses the .22 pretty well . I needed a comp for the 10/22 for timer purposes, so I said what the heck and bought the taper mount. I'll move the comp/mount to another rifle when the stamp comes in for my rimfire can.
Its a fun little rifle, my daughter loves it. Good luck with your build.

  7. Had an old 10/22 in the safe so I threw this one together for my daughter. Kidd trigger parts & ULW barrel. Plastic C-More 8MOA on a used Striplin mount i picked up here. Comp is a Griffin Ti taper mount (for suppressor use around the house). Axiom stock is cheap, light, and adjustable. Right after I installed the Kidd barrel, Wiland introduced their shrouded barrel. :-(689cfd192664d2a27085111c063b29bd.jpg

I have three frames on the way for trial.  Very impressed with their responsiveness.

Unless there's been a change, the frames he sends for trial fit don't have the gold/photochromic lenses installed. Maybe that was because I'd already tried a pair at a match.

Guys - I was just looking at Practi-Score and saw where the 2020 Alabama Steel Challenge State Championship in September this year is NOT running OL as one of their courses...I wonder if and why they decided to do this at the State Championship level. It is not because of bay space because the shoot is at CMP in Talladega where the World Speed Shooting Championship is held and has 10 or 11 bays on the main course.....

They said it's because of participant feedback.

The Hunters HD Gold is intriguing and I'll keep that in mind, but changing platforms (with prescription needs) away from Rudy Project get's pretty pricey.  I've ordered different inserts (iron sights and distance) and Laser Red photochromic for a try.  Yes, the inserts are a bit of a pain, but I've been using them for years and don't find a real performance impact.  I shot with a neutral photochromic in-lens for 2-3 years; the photochromic feature works fine, but the neutral transmission isn't right for steel challenge in general.

Whatever you do, don't demo a pair of HHDG's at a match then.

  11. I wear Hunter's HD Gold as well. I demoed a pair at the Alabama state match last year. They worked so well, I was halfway to my truck after the match before I remembered I still had them on. Very sharp contrast, and lighting conditions look the same all day while wearing them. Great company to deal with, worth the price of admission.

I am a little worried about not lining up the pin notch exactly perfect since that requires drilling to fix.....

If it goes in off center and the pin doesn't line up, remove the bushing and reinstall. Sometimes the pin channel needs a little bit of filing, do not drill it after installing the bushing. The bushing is harder than the slide and you'll ruin the pin holes in the slide trying to drill the bushing. I use a 10mm(I think)socket and a 6" extension. Hold that and the slide in one hand and tap the extension with a hammer. Never had to clamp it in a vice. I do leave the slide and new bushing in the deep freezer overnight.
