    I get that a lot. only video'd 2 stages.... -rvb https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QOHkYBnxyA8
  3. This was a great match, both as a competitor and as staff. The stages were fun, nothing "gimmicky," very fast with enough challenge to keep it interesting. Last years match was outstanding, but lessons learned were evident... berms were improved, lunches were good, staff not so rushed on shooting, porta johns cleaned daily... nothing left to complain about! haha. The crew who gave their time to set up 18 outstanding stages (and tear them down!), especially after doing all the range improvement work, are to be commended! Thank you! -rvb

Relatively happy with my 5th place finish in Production at the IN Section match, especially given my complete lack of preparation or practice... 2nd of 5 GMs. I had 1 stage win (Alex must have had a malfunction or something) I probably shot a little too conservative, though my points shot was nothing spectacular (~91%). I think one of my biggest areas for improvement was my setups when entering positions... a little off hitting the marks and being immediately ready to shoot. 6Ds, 2Ms, 1 NS. First Miss was on the far center target on stage 7... I shot activator, paper, mover... and I pulled off the paper a little early going for the mover, even though I had plenty of time. wanted to make it up, but I guess my plan was too "programmed in" and I ended up letting it go... 2nd miss/NS was on a vertical transition on some stacked targets on stage 15. I think I just broke the shot a touch early on the transition... Highlight was at the staff meeting after the match... Lightning struck twice and I won a .40 SS gun built by Gavin Ford !!! My second Ford gun in <6 months!! The thing is just simply bad ass. I can't wait to get some good photos and vids to share. Gavin does just awesome work. -rvb

Shot limited at ACC today. Pretty dismal... Just pretty poor shooting and stage execution all around. Won 1 stage on points, 3rd in Lim. If I'm actually going to shoot limited more, I'm going to have to get sights and an extended mag release for the glock. The gen4 factory extended mag release is a joke, and I flubbed several reloads as a result. I think I need to take the beavertail backstrap off, too. That's going to like double the amount of $ I have invested in my Lim gun, haha! Classifier was fluffys revenge 06-04. Shot clean in 3.68. But while I wasn't happy with my shooting, it was fun to shoot at a match other than one I was running.... Next match is the IN section. We'll see if I can muster up some motivation to dryfire and practice between now and then..... -rvb
  6. I would like to see a plastic gun win just because I would like to watch some heads explode. but it will really come down to the shooter. anyone's game, imo. I think a plastic gun winning could have an impact on CO final rule development... -rvb
  7. I think people confuse the original intent of idpa w/ production division.... I don't think USPSA Production was ever intended to only have newer shooters participate, but rather to give them a place to get into the sport w/o the Lim/Open equipment costs. The entire sport of IDPA was, however, intended for new shooters. This used to be in the idpa rulebook but was removed from the last revision: "One of the unique facets of this sports is that it is geared towards the new or average shooter..." So while USPSA Production was trying to get some of those shooters to join uspsa, I don't think the idea was that they should "move on" to Lim/Open once they got "above average." 2c -rvb
  8. ding ding. Production came around before SS. 1911s could complete in L10, but common guns like G17s or beretta 92s really had no place to be competitive, especially since they couldn't make major. plus there was the AWB making it hard for new shooters to get 'high caps' to play in limited. they made it DA/safe-action partly because they are considered harder, partly because it wasn't intended to include 1911s, and to some degree, because that was the idpa SSP rule, imo. then SS came along. Recently, production guys have largely moved away from glocks and berettas to heavy steel DA/SA guns. weight/accuracy/triggers/etc are all now very comparable to 1911s, except for that DA first shot. hence why above I argue we don't need two divisions any longer. biggest difference now in prod and ss divisions isn't the guns, it's the scoring/equipment rules which is easily solved. 2c. -rvb
  9. so if we "what if" the rules to death, my thoughts on merging division might change?? that's a far cry from saying I agree we should change the rules. Because I do not think a min trigger pull is a good idea. You've got some weird circular logic going.... You're saying IF I agree w/ your min trigger pull, my idea on merging the divisions might change, hence, I must agree w/ your min trigger pull?? production equipment rules are fine. ss equipment rules are fine. merge the divisions and the scoring rules and you'd have a fun, deep division w/ lots of off-the-shelf guns legal to shoot in it. and we could continue to debate for years (or maybe finally answer?) the 8 major / 10 minor debate. -rvb
  10. Not sure how you made that leap.... -rvb
  11. Yes, I've primarily shot production for the last several years. A Glock even. I think you're kidding yourself if you think competing against a 1911 would put me at a significantly greater competitive disadvantage relative to a cz or tangfo. I'd rather have a deeper pool to play in."But DA!!!" .... Ha. It affects maybe a dozen shots over a several hundred round major match. That's basically the difference between the two divisions at this point as far as the gun is concerned. -rvb
  12. Prod and SS are divisions based on guns you can buy off the shelf. They could be merged easily. L10 is a race gun division w/ fewer rounds in the mags thanks to fed [expired] and state AWBs. you can do slide lightening, rackers, big mag releases, etc etc in L10 so it doesn't make sense to merge it w/ the two factory-type divisions. I don't think L10 was made for SS guns, it was just the only place they could play somewhat competitively before SS came along. -rvb
  13. The real problem is so many people think it's the gear that really matters. So long as we have that perception, the division will never seem "fair." The gear might matter if you are trying to break into the top 8 at Nats. Otherwise, pick a gun and shoot it. I bet which one you pick won't make more than 1% difference in your score. Good triggers have been around for a long time in other guns (my worked-over Beretta 92 trigger was awesome). That's not new. The weight IS the unique feature of the current production hotness. I currently shoot a glock. I do NOT support a trigger pull restriction. And from an officiating standpoint, it sounds like a headache. If glock wants to regain market share, they need to build a better product. evolve and actually innovate vs ride a 30 yr old design. I do support 1911s in production. I've felt for years there is no reason for two separate divisions. 8 major / 10 minor for all. Top 16 at nats might be all 1911s or tangfos. Who cares! -rvb [jaded on the equipment race]
  14. I tried to emulate vogel's technique for quite a long while, basically all last season. It didn't work for me. While I could keep the gun flatter, recoil control was worse (inconsistent sight tracking, inconsistent return to target) and it caused me to struggle with trigger control. Over the winter I made the decision to back to the more traditional even/neutral grip like I had always used. My shooting almost instantly improved. the class bump I was hoping to get sometime during the 2015 season came on my second match of the season. I still grip very high, I still focus most of my grip strength at the top of the gun (as witnessed by the amount of skin left buried in my grip tape), but my arms/elbows are in a more natural feeling position and I feel I have better full-contact with the grip vs the somewhat exaggerated "torqueing in" and "left hand forward" style bob demonstrates. By removing that tension from my forearms/wrists the "torqueing" created, my trigger control improved. Bob's obviously found a technique that works for him. I couldn't make it work for me. I'm also shooting a glock. -rvb

Had a good / fun practice night last night. First, a .22 silencer may have been the most FUN gun-related investment ever. I can tell that thing is going to get used a LOT. I hadn't touched my Production gun since my last practice.... In fact, when packing for the practice I couldn't find it; it wasn't in any of my usual spots (bench or safe)... then I realized it was still in my gun bag from my last practice. shows how much dryfire I'm doing... anyway, started off with some draws at ~10 yds. All were in the upper .8s to lower .9s. Then we did some draw, 1-shot, reload, 1-shot drills on a 5 yd target. I hit what I think was my personal best reload yet with a 0.87. Hit was in the D just under the C line, but whatever. .87 draw and .87 reload for 1.74s total! (It was my second attempt, I bobbled the first.) Did a couple rounds of accelerator. First round was meh at ~3.15 2A, 2A, 2C. Second round was much better at 2.74, 2A, A/C, A/C. Then we mixed up accelerator by adding a reload and repeating, going in opposite direction, etc... Hit a 1.5s reload on the 25yd target (think the shot after the reload might have been in the upper D / shoulder, but whatever). felt good to be on the range again. -rvb

Just withdrew from Prod Nats. This summer is just too busy and work too volatile. Family vaca plans haven't panned out yet so maybe we'll get to make use of the weekend. At this point, I'll be happy just shooting a club match at another club... I've only shot 4 club matches this year (the club I MD), and the L-II I RM'd (and just shot for fun but no score). No sense shelling out the big $ totally unprepared and unenthusiastic. -rvb
  17. btw: I can't seem to quote or cut/paste... sorry if that makes my posts/thoughts harder to follow... -rvb
  18. it wouldn't include the non-uspsa stuff, correct. otherwise it does just that today. uspsa does protect member confidentiality by only showing last names if you are logged in, vs the blurring you had to do. I don't have to do a search on uspsa.... if I stay logged in, I just click match results. also the PS search isn't showing correct/official results. my name shouldn't be showing up in the 2015 IN SS/Prod/Rev match. -rvb p.s. I'm not even sure how you did that search? In the app? via the PS website I can't seem to search by shooter. I don't have a smartphone and my iPad is at home, so web is all I can look at right now... -rvb
  19. I understand from discussions in other threads/forums that uspsa has at least worked w/ PS, eg provided information on how to format the data, testing support, etc. A simple push-button would require some significant mods to PS... you'd have to provide uspsa.org login information to PS. Then there are privacy concerns (reference the password spill from a few months ago, how would the app handle/store/clear that information, etc). I think the current iOS solution is pretty reasonable considering those issues. Yes, it would be nice if I could touch one button, provide my uspsa login info, and BAM, done. who is liable if by some security weakness or whatever in the app club contact's and authorized uploader's logins/passwords get compromised? -rvb
  20. yea, the emailed results is a big plus, especially if there are updates. You'd never know there are updates on PS website unless you go looking for them or are somehow informed... -rvb
  21. I don't like it when clubs don't post to uspsa. I like that I can just click match results and the top and see all my matches I've shot. -rvb
  22. I didn't realize it wasn't avail under android.... yet another feature falling behind iOS. (and another reason HQ needs to take some contractual control of practiscore to ensure certain features are available). Compared to the past process of having to export the stages/scores from PS, then import into EZWin, then create the reports, etc, yes, it's quite easy seamless now. takes 60 seconds. I guess "hard" is relative..... While I would like a single push-button into uspsa's database, it's far from hard. surely you have a club member w/ an iphone who could email you the reports if all you have for the club is android? I use my personal iPad only because I never set up our club nooks for email/etc and I like having the final results on it because I know it's what I'll have in-hand if I get an email from a shooter w/ an issue... -rvb
  23. Practiscore now creates both the webfile for submitting scores and the activity/classifier report. what I do is complete the scores on my ipad, email both files to myself, go to my PC, and submit them via the uspsa website. pretty easy/seamless now; no real excuse not to submit classifiers or post scores to uspsa just because you're using practiscore. -rvb
