  1. She's a good lookin' pup. Our chocolate lab "puppy" is around 120# now, after the diet. He's not fat either. ETA: Still getting used to the off leash bit of the dog beach, he loves it, but it makes mama and papa a little nervous.
  2. Jim, It sounds like the gun is ready to go since you are comfortable with the sights and the trigger. Other than maybe adding a magwell to it I don't think you need anything else. Magwells are nice, but it's a Glock, there's already a big hole in the bottom of it (former 1911 shooter here). I don't think you will gain enough from an aftermarket barrel to bother spending the money. I probably wouldn't have bought the tungsten guide rod, but it can't hurt. Get the mag pouches and holster squared away and go shoot. Scott
  3. Thanks for all the info. I picked up a pound of WSF to try and I'm going to look into 231 a little closer.
  4. Yes, definitely get one of these with your first order of components. I put this purchase off for 14 years, wish I wouldn't have, it's really nice being able to pull a round apart if you have any doubts. Everybody has their favorite powder, most of the above recommendations will do fine. Take a look at the thread below to see some of the common 9mm loads being used here. The other day I sorted through this thread and found over 30 posts using Titegroup or WSF. There were a lot of similar loads which gave me a good starting point for my first 9mm loads. http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=89264
  5. Thanks for the responses. I expected VV320 to be a response. I'm not against it because of the price, I've seen the comparisons and understand if you buy more than a pound at a time the cost difference isn't that great. My main concern with VV is finding it locally if needed, I've seen 2 bottles of it locally and I don't think either one was 320. As for the 10mm, I'll probably end up with a different powder if I want to really load to the 10mm power level. At this point I was just thinking some lighter practice loads. And as for Titegroup, I've got A LOT of lead waiting to be loaded and I'm not happy with the fog produced with Titegroup and lead bullets. I'm actually looking to use the rest of the Titegroup I've got for 9mm loads with jacketed bullets, then switching over to a different powder. Again, thanks for the info. At this point I'm really leaning towards WSF as it looks like there is good data for all the calibers and I know it's available locally if needed. ETA: For 40 major I'm running a Glock 20 with 40 conversion barrel, so I am loading long at approximately 1.190". Again, I've got a lot of lead to use up.

    17 or 34?

Had both and preferred shooting the 17, so I sold the 34. If you can, try both of them first.
  7. I recently got back into USPSA and the reloading that goes with it. I'm expanding the calibers I reload, which is going to include 9mm, 40, 10mm and 45ACP. Of those, I plan to shoot the 9mm minor for Production and maybe Limited on occasion, along with 40 major for Limited. The 10mm and 45 are mainly just for fun. I've already got a lot of lead heads for 40 and 45, and have been looking at Berry's plated or Bayou for the 9mm. What I'd really like is to find one powder that can cover all of the above calibers with lead, plated or jacketed bullets. I've been using Titegroup and AA#5 since I still have a couple pounds of both. Once the Titegroup is gone I think I'm done with it, and Accurate just isn't that common in the local shops. From the reading and searching I've done in the caliber specific reloading sections here, I seem to see WSF and Solo1000 pop up for multiple calibers and with any type of bullet. Additionally, I've been able to find both powders locally at reasonable prices. Any thoughts on these two powders for multiple calibers and bullet types? Any recommendations on load data for Solo1000? I can't seem to find handgun data for it. Scott
  8. 5.4gr AA#5 OAL 1.185" 200gr lead Remington 6.5 primers Average velocity for 10 rounds was around 810fps, don't have my notes. PF was 163, that I do remember. Loaded some 5.7gr rounds tonight to try.
  9. Lyman's 47th edition has #5 with a 200gr lead bullet making major with the starting load if the OAL is 1.125, so it should be doable. DK, definitely interested in your results.
  10. I missed the angled round issue, but looking at it again I'd start here. Typically with 1911 feeding issues I assume extractor issues first, typically wrong angles, crappy finish, or too tight.
  11. I'm currently working up a load with AA#5 and 200gr lead bullets, not quite what you're looking for, but here's what I've got so far. Once fired mixed brass Remington small rifle primers 200gr lead TC D&J bullets Fired from a Glock 20 with .40 conversion barrel AA#5 4.8gr OAL 1.200" average velocity was 750fps AA#5 4.6gr OAL 1.135" average velocity was 750fps I had some lighter charges, but the velocities were below 750fps and barely operated the slide. I think I'm going to need 5.5-5.8gr of AA#5 to make major. Check out the info here, I think there's some AA#5 data with jacketed bullets. http://www.k8nd.com/documents/hl40sw.pdf
  12. That sucks. Where are you located? Maybe you can get with somebody here that's also into the 10mm and might see something differently. Hate to see you sell a good pistol that you want to shoot and reload for.
  13. I don't like Lee stuff but switching to their factory crimp die solved some feeding iissues with my 45. It sounds like I crimp a lot more than most which may or may not help. Kind of at a loss for what to tell you.
  14. How are you crimping? Seating and crimping in the same die? If so, have you tried a separate crimp die?
  15. Maybe I missed it, but did you try your reloads the same day you shot all of the factory ammo with the stock barrel? Did you have problems this time? I've never had these issues with the 2 different G20s I've owned and reloaded for, factory or other barrel. I'm suspicious of you reloads and the LWD barrel.
  16. I think I'll give the 40 in a 10mm barrel a try next time I hit the range. That would eliminate the need to buy a second conversion barrel when I buy my backup gun. Meat, that thing still looks good, and thanks for all the info. Now to find a G20SF locally.
  17. Please do, thanks. Once I run out of 200gr lead I think I'm going to switch over to the 180s as well, there seems to be a lot more options with the lighter bullet.
  18. I've been looking for a starting point for Titegroup and 200gr lead for about a month. I've checked a bunch of forums, several manuals, local shooters, the Jeff Maass list, etc. I think I even started a thread here. I have not been able to find a suggested starting point for this combination, maybe I've missed it, but I have run across a couple people that have tried it and could not make major without pressure issues. The more I read, the more convinced I am that Titegroup and 200gr bullets just isn't the best combination. I want it to be, I've got a lot of both to use up. Hodgdon lists the following on their website: 200 GR. HDY XTP .400" Hodgdon Titegroup OAL 1.125" Min 3.4gr velocity 744 27,200 PSI Max 3.8gr velocity 822 31,700 PSI I've thought about starting with the minimum of 3.4gr and an OAL of 1.190" and working up to see what I can get. I'm not going to have time to do it any time soon though, so for now I'm going with a different powder. Sorry to muddy the waters, just thought I'd throw out what I've found so far. Scott
  19. 4.5gr Titegroup with a 200gr lead bullet, OAL around 1.258". Not sure on the velocity, never chrono'd it. It's smokey, but shoots well.
  20. Just got a Dillon 550 and this is what I've been doing out of fear of loosing the pin.
  21. MEAT, I've looked at this thread many times, but the quoted info just hit me. So this guy is running a 10mm barrel and 40 brass with a loaded OAL at 1.26"? Part of me wants to try it since I've got a 10mm KKM barrel. At the same time, that seems like it's just asking for trouble since I'd have to rely only on the extractor holding the round in the correct place, the round wouldn't be headspacing on the case mouth at all.
  22. Cy Thanks for the info, I was hoping to find somebody that tried already. With lead I figured I would probably have to start around 3.0 grains and work up, but it might not be worth the headache. Scott
  23. I've been searching my reloading manuals, forums and every website I can think of trying to find data for a 200gr lead bullet and Titegroup that will make major. I've searched and read a lot here at BE, but I definitely haven't read every thread on the subject. I've seen references to this combination, but no specifics. Can anybody point me to a thread with relevant info? Or, does anybody have suggestions for this combination? A little background might be in order. I know Titegroup and lead can be smokey, I use it in 10mm and .45 with lead, so I've seen first hand what it will do. I've got 4 pounds of powder and 4,000 bullets (the bullets were a close out deal that I couldn't pass up) that I'd really like to use up. I'm planning on running this in a Glock 20 with an aftermarket barrel that's been throated to allow the OAL to be 1.200". I can be flexible on primers and brass is mixed range brass, but I really want to find a safe load with Titegroup and 200gr lead bullets. In the end, if it's not safe to use 200gr bullets and lead then I won't do it, I'll find a different powder. That said, I know it's been discussed here, I just can't find any detailed info. Thanks in advance for any help. Scott
  24. Not Meat obviously, but I took the finger grooves off of the G20 I'm putting together for limited. With the bigger frame and my girlie hands, it definitely helps me. I previously shot a 2nd gen G20 in limited, so I already knew I'd like it.
  25. Thanks. This weekend is South Kent. I never made it to either one of those clubs, maybe next year. Just hoping to shake the cobwebs loose this year before the snow flies, then really get into it next year. I might try to make it to a couple of DSC indoor matches this winter too.
