All good with me - keeps the information all in one place for later searching.

I'm planning to do something similar too. See how a PD 14, Wolff 14, and E.G. Medium compare in the pencil test. Compare the standard and Patriot heavy firing pins too.

Hopefully I feel motivated to play with it tomorrow.

Memphis, ill get you the hammer springs your missing in the mail this week. It'll help everyone out seeing the consistency from one gun to keep the constant standardized.

...Although many of us who shoot a lot are going to wait a little longer than that...

I always re-sprung my comp gun once a year, in the spring, before the season started. With the Glock and M&P that was sometimes 12,000-15,000 rounds.

Respringing a gun every 3 or 4 months if you shoot in high volumes seems quite excessive. I honestly don't know anyone who resprings more than 2 times a year with a 2011 or Production gun no matter what number of cycles the springs are seeing, and that works well for them.

You need to pay a little bit more attention to that hammer spring, sear spring, and trigger return spring. They will leave you wishing you had changed them out at the worst possible time for you...... I understand not doing the whole gun, i actually prefer some springs to loose some weight....... I wont chance a hammer spring, sear spring, or trigger return.

At the Grauffel webshop you can only order recoil springs in different lbs and they are 140 mm. Nothing like long slide or 120mm standard slide.

So I guess you have to cut coils if you don't have a long slide to get the 120 mm.

But is the recoil spring than still 10 lbs if I cut coils? Or do I have to take a stronger spring to cut coils?

If you cut coils your changing the spring rate........ making it softer

I've read through your thread and all the pictures. My safety looks like it's hitting on the very tip of the sear not underneath. Like my sear is too low even though everything is in place and installed properly. Everything I've read says don't file the tip of the sear leg. Which is where mine looks like it's hitting. Of course I could be wrong too because it was a long day for me and I was tired. I'll be waiting for new sear springs before I do anything though

    pictures speak a thousand words........

I have a Stock 2 with all polished and fitted extreme parts , T3 disco and reduced power trigger reset spring. Now the DA is 5lb 5oz, SA 2lb 3oz, which is very nice, but the only problem is the SA reset is not positive. Sometimes the trigger will not reset before my next pull, usually happen when I double tap or drill. I use "reset riding" trigger control and keep my finger in contact with the trigger at all times, so that's may be the reason for not reset. I tried a heavier trigger reset spring, that will temporarily solve this problem but make DA 6lb, SA 3lb, but lighter trigger is better. I heard there is a way to polish the T3 dicso to get the positive reset, anyone knows how to do that? Or is there any other method to solve this problem?  Thanks a lot.

You need to fit the disco, there are several older threads on here that discuss in detail what areas to hit.

You havent changed out the trigger bar plunger spring have you?

A "slow" pull can mean many things. It may mean a pull that stops the trigger as soon as the hammer drops. Tanfos NEED a FULL STROKE of the trigger. Fast slow or medium ... if the stroke is stopped (or slower ) as it drops the hammer, there are a couple "bad things" that can occur. First is the sear may not have lifted the fpb fully. But, the sear being just barely lifted can also allow the 1/2 cock hooks to impact the sear face.  testing trigger pull by the old style hanging weight method and adding just exactly the amount to dtop the hammer will show this. Another thing is the disco "wing" can slide off the trigger bar erratically giving variable short hammer drop.

Funny you mention the 1/2 cock John as i was just chatting with Waktasz this morning about this phenomenon. Some guns on a really slow SA pull will either fall to half cock or graze by it which in turn slows down the hammer greatly. Now i know he's having issues in DA but its possible he's grazing the half cock killing his hammer travel speed. I've seen some tanfo's that have a slight bit of play in the sear housing to frame tolerance that cause them to wiggle around enough for the hammer to fall to 1/2 cock. This however is seen more in the older style guns.

Interesting. The Wolf 14 feels terrible to me. I have to cut a coil to get it not feeling like it stacks horribly, and even then it still does. I wish you'd have tested the EG light spring too.

I think the issue with Wolff are they tend to vary in OD and length slightly. This may not be a cause for concern when looking at it with the naked eye it does however cause issues when the spring is under compression and the OD grows enough to contact the pocket wall. Hence why when you cut a coil or two the stacking goes away some because your releasing some of the pre-load from the spring.

I've been thinking how to better explain this -

You can pull two different brand springs. They can pull the exact same weight in DA and SA... but the strike force will be different. Ie. a PD 12# will hit harder with a similar or lower pull weight than a different brand. Because the PD does not colapse, allowing the actually spring weight to be transfered to the release of the hammer, resulting in a better strike.

So without a tool to measure collapse or compression, it's kind of hard to compare hammer springs. And I say that across the board, not just with PD springs.

To elaborate a little more on this, we choose a material that has a higher natural frequency which in turn gives you a faster response (spring returning to its normal state). This is why the majority of guys could drop down 1lb or more with our springs, they just want to return home faster which in turns gets that hammer moving quicker......

You are right Joe.....But I've been monitoring the work done by having daily phone conversations lol. (although I always vouched for the owner to do the work himself) ....... I told him to fire only in DA since DA is weaker just as an experiment (SA is never been an issue)

Knowing that you guys are the BEST gunsmiths I post here to hear your opinions

NO worries, we're all here to help out. As you know attention to detail with these guns are a huge part on the tuning process. Its easy for another competent gunsmith to look over an area because its not a cause for concern in another firearm platform.

    ^^^This makes sense!

My LP with a very minimal polish job and the following:

Reduced power trigger return and sear spring

    titan hammer

    bolo

    12# hammer spring

Last night I was getting just over 8# DA and just over 3# SA.

I left the hammer cocked over night and tested the pulls again this morning.

Just under DA 8# (7lbs 10 oz 5 pull average)

Right at 3# SA (can't remember 5 pull average want to say around 3lbs 1 oz)

So, it's not apples to apples since these weren't done in MM's S3 with the polishing.

Seems to me the polishing makes the most difference.  Springs may lower the DA pull a little but just slightly lower the SA(if at all)

Am I on the right track?

polishing makes a huge difference, what drove me to create new hammer springs was to get rid of the stacking towards the end of the pull........ Dont get me wrong, hammer springs will affect pull weights in both DA/SA but your big difference comes from polishing. Friction can be fun; but not in a tanfo........
