  1. Yea. It seems both are important but for my level I guess what I came up with is that I found a speed I can do things at 90% and I won't ever get better if I don't push out the comfort zone. I shot Utah state and Area 3 with roughly 90% points. Now that I'm there, I need to push it a little more and stay that pace until I reach 90% again. Then repeat the process over and over.
  2. The Colorado State Match is in the books. This was my last major match for the year. Now the training starts for next year! I came into the match with the idea of just trying to be faster. I noticed I sacrificed points in trying to do so but not as much as I thought. I still clipped no shoots but they were close. Not like wild shooting where the two holes were on opposite sides of the target or directly in the middle of the no shoot or anything. I'm hoping a better grip technique will help resolve some of this. I tried moving faster and I think I moved a little better than previously. I know my times were much faster than they would have been in the past. My issue with it is that my where I placed on each stage varied. I ended 2nd in production all the way to 28th. I did not finish where I wanted but I do believe the times I put on the stages helped me place much better than I would have if I played it safe and had a clean match slow. I know that with the calculation of HF that there is a balance of speed and accuracy but I do believe that speed has a little more importance than accuracy. I obviously can't throw a ton of D hits and expect to do well but I noticed that going faster than I am used to only threw a few extra C's and the time absorbed more that what I lost in points. My goal from this time moving into the next major match is working on speed in both footwork and transitions/splits. I am ready to accept the fact that my scores may suffer for a while but I will never get comfortable with a fast speed if I never do it. I used my new long slide CZ. I've been using it in bowling pin matches for about a month and just once at a USPSA match last week before the state match. I thought all the bugs were worked out but I had extractor issues. It seems to me that CZ's don't have a 1000 round break in period but they start having issues after 1000 rounds that need to be worked out. This was the instance in both my guns. Both were extractor issues. It was embarrassing having to deal with my extractor issues in front of Cha-Lee because was always hammering me on my choices of running guns right out of the box at major matches. I really need to listen to that guy. I think he knows his shit So in closing for this year's major matches I learned a few things. This was my first "full year" and first year ever doing a major match. First off, I need to ensure my equipment is truly ready to be used at a major match. It's funny how these things don't show up until you are at a major match. Statistically it seems that 80% of gun issues turn up at major matches even though it runs 95% of the time at local matches and maybe 5% of your time is at majors. CRAZY!!!! I learned that movement needs to be a key issue in training this year. I feel my shooting can be 90% clean at my comfort zone and as long as I keep speeding it up in practice that my match speed will be increasing. I may be wrong but I'm too slow and in my instance speed is king and accuracy is secondary to become a better shooter in the long run. My accuracy will catch up with my speed if I continue to push it.

So I have both the cts and Sp-01 shadow custom. Both from czc. All I can tell is the recoil is "different" I'm debating still on which one I like better? Do you have a preference yet? I'm leaning towards cts due to sight radius and srt trigger.
  4. I'd worried more about remembering to hammer down before holstering at make ready. I'm the guy with the letter H on both my hands. It stands for either hammer down or haha dude... You just Dq'd My biggest thing I'm learning still is taking advantage of the single action. I came from a glock and I need to remind myself I can rip it on really close targets.

I finally got my holster from Long's Shadow so I did some proper dry fire with it. I didn't notice too much of a difference in reload speed. My reloads are 1.3~1.5 anyway so I'm not the best to see if it slowed down. I do seem to hit targets a little better with it vs my CZC SP01 Shadow custom 2014. I'm not sure if it's the half inch more sight radius or if it's the srt trigger. My shadow only has the pre-b disconnecter. Here's a pic!
  6. I went to the Utah State match last weekend and had a blast shooting with some really cool people. We were squaded with some people from Las Vegas that were awesome to shoot with. The weather was as good as you could hope for. The weather report was calling for it to be in the mid 90's but we were blessed with overcast and a slight breeze that really helped out. From a shooting perspective I did as well as my skills allowed me. I ran the match very conservatively and gained one mike on a steel that I chose to leave behind. I saw the scores from the previous day that many people stood there for way too long to get it. I gave it two good tries and moved on. I made that decision based on the round count for that array. I also racked up two mikes on the last stage and I believe it wasn't an accuracy issue on my part but where I aim at targets that have a diagonal hardcover over the A. This one was a little tricky and it covered more of the A zone than the half I am used to. Other than those I ran it pretty well for my skill level. One thing that keeps coming up is my movement. I am giving up waaaaay too much time because of my lack of aggression in movement. After reviewing the videos and reviewing others match videos I realize that I can definitely improve on my movement simply by incorporating these into my stage planning. My planning doesn't go much past go here, go there, and little foot markers to make sure I can see the whole array. I really need to get into making sure I am in a position to get in and out of positions a lot faster. I am going to solely concentrate on this at the local match this weekend and hope to get it on video to review the heck out of it. I need to get lower in positions to snap out of positions and I need to keep my posture when I run. I think this will be a great first step in eliminating the few seconds I get behind on time at every stage. 3 seconds on every stage really hurts at a 14 stage major match.
  7. I noticed the same thing with my brass. The nickel case once fired a make for large matches only were consistent but my normal range brass was having spreads of 60fps. I did notice the primers were waaay easier to seat on my normal brass. It's also been loaded at least 8 times. If not more. The case walls were the same dimensions though.

Long's Shadow holster just got my cts to make a mold. They should have nice holsters for it in the next week or so. Go check them out!

I will say the recoil is different and I really am faster with it compared to my sp-01 shadow custom.

My reloads were never that great anyway so it's hard for me to say. I'm new to CZ anyway but when I did bowling pin shoots and needed to reload I didn't really notice it.

Here they are. Cts and cz sp01 shadow
  12. From what I'm hearing, I think I need to read Lanny Basham's book.
  13. I had a very good chat with Cha-Lee texting and realized my goals were actually results of what I wanted to accomplish and it would be a hard road ahead for me if I continued this path. I got caught up in the whole classification system mindset and was worried about making a certain level as a goal rather than setting goals in skills which would result in me making the classifications I desire. I am no longer going to worry about my classification as far as the mathematics go and just concentrate on skills. I am going to look back at my post about a year ago where I listed skills I thought were needed to perform well on a stage and re-rank them as to where I stand now. I think this will be a waaaaaay better measure of everything. On a side note, I did just buy the new CZ Custom CTS LS-P. The long Slide version of their production gun. It was recently approved on the production list. It is a very nice shooter and I was able to get familiar with the gun immediately. The recoil is different when I shot it side by side with my CZ SP-01 Shadow Custom. Once I get a holster made by Long's Shadow Holsters this will definitely be my primary gun and the other new CZ I bought will be the back up. I can now not worry about having a gock 34 as a back up which is a totally different gun with a totally different shooting experience.
  14. Hmmm. I guess I'm on a different level. I've shot glocks for years and I never mastered it so I guess in a few months I should be good to go. I already like the trigger, even the DA. I was just thinking that my next gun will be purchased in the winter. I had no idea or didn't think it would be a hassle to do mid season.
  15. 9 months. Yikes!! Was it frustrating? Like 9 months of shitty scores and slight improvements a match at a time?
  16. Yea. And probably a dq as well with the whole hammer needing to be dropped.
  17. That is a lot of rounds. That's bad ass!
  18. This weekend was a full 2 days of shooting that had it's ups and downs. There was the Sectional Qualifier Match at HPPS where I shot my CZ. Then Sunday was the annual GSSF match where I helped RO and shot three divisions. Competition (Glock 34), Civilian (Glock 19), and Heavy Sub (Glock 30). Saturday was a fun, hot, frustrating, and challenging day all rolled up into one. I am still getting used to the CZ it sure showed. I am left handed and switched the magazine release to the correct side to where I drop the magazine with my thumbs. I used to use my middle finger of my strong hand with my glock and it went well. It was very comfortable for me but no matter what, there would always be a few times where I don't hit it hard enough or in the right spot and the mag would not drop free. The CZ grip allowed me to try it the correct way due to the way the grip is. I dry fire practiced it for about a week straight everyday and I am loving this new method. I think it worked out for me already so it can only get faster from now on. I ended the match with 6 Mikes, 2 No shoots, and 6 D's. That is no bueno for me. I definitely confirmed at this match that the sights have to change. I feel that there is not enough of a gap between the front and rear sight which is making me not able to focus on the front sight. I kept looking at the front and rear as one solid thing and could not focus on the front sight to save my life. I feel I'm lucky I only got 6 Mikes. I am going to order from Dawson Precision a narrower sight. I measured the difference in gap width of the rear and width of the front on my glock and I am going to match it to my new CZ. The gap is wider in the glock so I need to go narrower in the front with the CZ. The GSSF Match Sunday was a blast. I always look forward to these. I calculated all my times in the divisions and I definitely improved from the last time I did the GSSF match in Utah Last year. My scores this year would have won me last year. So at best I'll win, and I am hoping at the very least I stayed improving with the rest of the folks from last year. I did win a free Glock Certificate in the R/O raffle again this year so if you know someone that would like to purchase it let me know . I'm already starting to save for my next CZ. I only have one more match left before I leave for the Utah state match so I need to get the ball rolling on getting familiar with my CZ. A part of me still wants to get back into my comfort zone with the glock but I know in the long run this CZ will be better for me.

Yea. Just got my czc shadow custom. I love it and now I'm debating whether to get the same sp-01 shadow custom or this new beast they made prod legal. Stuart should push these like the DARE commercials in the 80's. The first ones free man..... Hehe
  21. Yea. Cutting soda and drinks helped for a while. I drank water or unsweet ice tea for a while. Then the Pepsi craving pulled me back for a little bit.
  22. Thanks Tommy, My weight is still an issue but my movement has improved somewhat despite it. I learned to move a little more aggressively and I am somewhat able to keep up with the fast times at our local matches. My buddy recorded a comparison video of us on a stage that had some movement and although I was able to keep up with his time, my points suffered slightly. reviewing the video side by side I noticed he was more comfortable in his movement and looked smoother. I think I sacrificed getting into and out of position to meet the speed and that's where I lost the points. I know that being less "plump" would help me get more comfortable at speed. I compare my running as trying to stop a heavy train at a moments notice vs other fit fellas who can do it more gracefully. I am learning a lot using the Max Michel Shot coach. We are comparing our videos on there and I am learning a lot from it. I am having a hard time losing weight due to my unhealthy lifestyle and I do feel that I need to concentrate on that more. It would help me in all aspects of life, not just shooting so I need to make that a priority. I have taken a few classes including one from a local GM that is a high level GM, not just paper, I feel that I am not a good listener, or maybe not a good applier of the gold nuggets I've been given by him. I do feel my game could improve a lot more on the mental side. I notice I am not giving my all on EVERY stage. The ones I feel I do better on are ones where I think to myself I need to hurry. Congrats on your finish in the multi gun match! I know I've definitely looked at things a little different since I started worrying about overall finish and not just being happy with my finish in my class. (currently a B.) There are times when I finish high overall so I know that I can do it. Being fit and working on the mental side would help me the most keep that consistent and not just one or two stages at 12-14 stage major matches.
  23. So the little I've shot it it didn't return back in the notch and I had to hunt for the fiber. Reading what you said it could be a grip issue because it's not returning to the same spot. Perhaps the glock sights allowed me to be sloppy? Or my grip was good on that. Hmmm. Thanks for the discussion guys! This discussion may have unlocked more things for me to think about and solve from different angles.
  24. I've tried stock glock sites (bleh), ameriglo i dots (liked it because it was my carry sites; very used to it) and finally settled on Warren Tactical sights for the last 8 months. I liked how thin the front blade looked and how deep the notch was in the rear. The cz sights seem to be a square notch and the front blade that's visible during a good sight picture is a square. To me it seems there's only a sight picture when it's perfect. Any lower and or to the side and the fiber disappears. I guess with good practice my margin of error will be smaller. Right now with a less than optimal alignment the fiber is hidden and not in the notch. I'll keep trying these. Who knows, I may improve with these. I will ask Stuart and see what options are available just in case these don't work out. I'm hoping it's a bigger rear sight because the front site looks like pain to try and do.
  25. I shot my cz for the first time in a match setting. It was a bowling pin shoot competition. I went from winning the last one to barely surviving a few rounds. The gun was flawless and it was my part that sucked. Just getting used to it will take a while. I do see the potential in that single action trigger though. I am not used to the sights. The glock sights had a very wide space between the front post. I'm not sure if it's the front site that is thick or if it's the rear sight that is narrow but I was not getting good shots with it. I definitely need to fix some issues with my grip and just get used to it. I feel it'll be a better gun for my journey in the long run. Anyone else that came from a warren tactical sight or similar to a cz have a hard time getting used to the sights or am I just being dramatic?
