  1. I want to see some flat major loads. On my end budget is an issue so I cant really a bunch of guns for different events. I'm trying to find a good load that I can shoot steel challeng with and falling steel matches and soon some uspsa. If I can get a super flat major load then I would shoot that for everything and get used to that load for all. my take on it is if major can be flat and I can get just as good shooting major than minor, why load differently for other shoots and then have to adjust to the way the gun reacts at the different events? Also if I'm always shooting major then it would be so foreign to me when shooting uspsa
  2. But to get super picky on what im looking for is video of different loads out of the same gun showing the gun flatten out, especially if it is doing so as the power factor increases. I am probably just getting way too picky but that is what I am looking for lol. Or showing the effect from one powder to another, different bullet weight, different springs, holes in the barrel, without holes, shooting with no hands. hey, i think its a good idea for an experienced shooter/videographer as im sure a lot of other people would enjoying seeing the same thing.
  3. my buddies gun that I shot was not at major. mine was not either, and I do reload. I havent shot any uspsa yet only steel challenge matches and falling steel matches so I haven't shot anything at major. I'm an admitted noob, this being my first year shooting, and shot an open gun for the first time about a month ago. that being said, i know there is a lot i can work on before I could say flatter will make me shoot better. just when i shot his compared to mine I was surprised by the difference. having the dot return to the same spot is top priority as far as performance whether it is flat or not but seeing some super flat shooting guns on camera would be pretty cool too Thanks for all of the responses and those videos are right up the alley of what i was looking for.. some flatness
  4. that's what I figured had to be out there somewhere. I know There are countless variables I guess I'm asking for something that hasn't been done yet on the video comparison. I'm looking for video to pretty much find something to aim for in load development and flatness. I shot my buddies 38 super caspian last weekend and shot mine at the same time and his felt like it didn't move. I haven't really found the right load with my gun as I haven't had it that long and the builder only shot major and I haven't tried major out of it yet so maybe I could do the comparison video ?
  5. Ive read a lot of posts about 9major and different loads to achieve major with different bullet weights. with bbl holes and without, some say this is better than that and some loads result in being flatter or softer than others. anyone have any videos to compare "flatness" between loads? another thing ive seen is certain loads seem to work better at higher powerfactors. again looking to see some video to playback and see the real results. is it more of a feel thing and a video would almost look the same? im new to shooting open and have seen some pretty flat shooting guns at shoots and just started playing with different loads with my gun so im still trying to find something that i like. But I figured with the advance in phone cameras, somebody has to have video displaying how flat a gun shoots especially with slomo video being available to anyone with an iphone.
  6. anyone notice when using an offset mount that at farther distances the point of impact would be off horizontally? say you zeroed at 18 yards wouldnt your hits stray off to the left out at say 50 yards? just throwing random yardages not doing any calculations here, but i would think the further out you go the more it would be off horizontally. I have an offset cheely mount, havent tested my theory though.
  7. I wondered where to put mine when i was setting up my belt not too long ago. i never thought of the pouches getting in the way when going prone but it makes sense why you would want them off to your side at that point. I tried searching this before with no luck. I tried to find videos of the pros shooting to see where theirs are too and settled on getting used to the spread i have starting at 12 oclock . more pictures of the setups encouraged by a noob (me)
  8. I adjusted the pawls according to the video posted recommendations and it was very helpful. didnt solve the problem unfortunately. i also smoothed out the " snapping" according to another video i found in a link on here which smoothed out the operation but also didn't help, not that i thought that would. that being said i made a video ( a poor quality video) but you can see the issue ( i think) i going to try my shell plate in my buddies press to see if it does the same in his but here's the video
  9. I watched the video, very helpful btw, and im going to try adjusting the pawls. that could be the issue but im afraid it is not lining up in a way it cant be adjusted. the pawls adjust left to right so to speak and i think the issue is more of a front to back kind of adjustment if that makes any sense. I'll adjust and follow up with the results.
  10. I didnt watch the video yet, ( im at work ) but i think i found the problem with my press at least. im going to do my best to describe whats going on. upon closer examination last night i noticed that under the first station ( i didnt really check any others) the shell doesnt quite line up under the die. it feeds in on a slight angle. if the shell could push in closer to the center to the shell plate it would line up fine. im going to call hornady to see if i can adjust anything but the only thing i can think of is maybe this shell plate could be the problem. the only solution i can think of is to take down a small amount of material on the shell plate so the case can sit a little closer to the center of the plate. Now im curious if Anyone else who is still having this problem has figured out a solution or if they were having this same issue.
  11. ill try that again today, but im pretty sure i tried that a little while back. Im sure with research i could figure this one out, but when you say check the timing what is it exactly am im looking for if you dont mind me asking? the plate falls into the detents. are you saying the plate that has the holes for the detents might be off underneath the shell plate? (excuse my lack of proper terminology with these parts )
  12. Check the press timing unloaded - it shouldn't 'snap' harshly into place at each step, or needs adjustment. Try raising your decapping pin a bit. Question - just to confirm, does it bind at all/anywhere when not running cases through it? does not bind anywhere other than when a case is up in the resizing decapping die. Other than that station it is smooth. I've tried two different dies and without lubing the cases it hangs up. The hornady die a lot worse than the lee
  13. Shmella is weirdly my nickname that all of my friends know me as. kind of evolved into shmella after being called all kinds of nicknames. my names is Dustin, somehow i got the name Deagan that evolved into, Deacan, and then Deac, Deaca, Dicamello, Dicashmellgo, DicaShmellgs Dicashmellgo shmellgo shmellga Shmella. Me and my buddy were watching Charlie Moore's fishing show, and he called a fish he caught a little Shmella and the name stuck ever since. I started using it for all of my usernames, gamertags, email is Sugarshmell. i think i was going for sugar ray or something like that with the shmell twist for my email, and everytime i give out my email to sign up for some rewards card or something i think its kind of funny to spell it out to the store clerk so i keep using it. Shmella is almost always available as a username or screenname whenever i make an account somewhere. except for this lady who calls her cat shmella, she beat me to the name on instagram. luckily that cat doesnt shoot or i would have been pretty upset if she beat me here too.
  14. I have had this same problem with my lnl with 9mm using hornady custom grade dies. problem is in the resizing decapping. i tried cleaning it with brake cleaner and started lubing all my cases with one shot. Lubing the cases helped a lot but never fully resolved the problem. went to an lee u-die instead for other reasons and seemed to be easier but never as smooth as some describe. always takes some effort (nothing too crazy) but i still wish it was smoother. Yesterday i tried running some 9mm through and forgot to spray it with one shot and was reminded how much effort it takes even with the Lee u die instead of the hornady die. I was looking for a solution when i first set up the press but kindof just accepted it after a while. this is the first post ive read with the same issue and hope to get some feedback or a solution to the problem. Im going to try and mess with this thing again now and see if i can find a fix. reading this has me thinking it is the press and not the dies after all.
  15. And what are you doing to prepare your slide, frame etc. if you dont mind me asking? Are you preparing it yourself? Or are you saying TechPlate's prep work is better than another.
  16. im looking forward to seeing the difference between the two loads. no way i was waiting to find powder so i shot off all the ammo i had loaded up. (only 200 rds) how is it though? i have 124g jhp mg on order. anyone work up a load with 124 that works alright with blue dot?
  17. I recently picked up my first open gun in 9mm and have been searching the forum for powder choices. I made a list of what to look for but with powder availability im pretty much limited to what i can get right now. some blue dot came up for sale locally so i scooped it up and was wondering if anyone uses it regularly or has a load with it. The gun is a 2011 with an akai two gill comp and 6-1/8" poppel holes in v pattern. I have titegroup on hand and figured blue dot is better than that at least. Input?
  18. I also curious about the fit after chroming. in you guyses experiences does the slide and frame need to be refitted afterward?
  19. So pretty much motor oil is preferred my most. i was reading multiple forum posts about the subject and couldnt tell if this was some big joke everyone seemed to be in on or was seriously used as a lube.
  20. so motor oil blend is the serious go-to. i started reading some of these realizing it was a joke and couldnt seem to figure out the whole thing was a joke or not.
