  1. takled to Mike today and he does have all but one stage drawn up in a postable format. I'll call him tomorow and ask if I can post them. So far he has 9 stages and the rd count is 195. the last stage will likely be 20+ so figure avout 220 or so. More to follow
  2. I installed a Chip Mccormic ambi safety today. Looks great. will edit this post with pics tonight or tomorow
  3. For comparison sake this is my baby fresh out of the box. I think it's come a long way I recently discovered eBay has 1911 parts. Well I have a stainless ambi saftey and a new trigger on the way. More picks when I get them fitted. If I keep this up I will have a real limited gun . Now if only I could learn what those bumpy things on the top are for!
  4. yes I have to agree I only wish I was able to do that That group was shot by Jeff Cramblit my groups were in the ballpark or 1.5-1.75 inches
  5. Thanks for all the info. and for the record I beleve in my 1st post I mentioned that the gun was able to get sub MOA groups out as far as 100 yards. Would have tested it at longer ranges but it was wet and cold so we didn't. I think the best group at 100 yards was something like 3/4". Fired semi off hand. ie resting the mag on the bench sorta like a monopod and as I mentioed earlier conditions were far from ideal I will be shooting it more soon to get a better idea of the long range group size. I will be very happy if it can hold moa to 300yards. I will be reloading my ammo soon but for the time being I think I'll shoot a few boxes of the cheap stuff. Thanks again for the info. P.S. The rifle was peiced togather out of spare parts that Jeff Cramblit had in his safe. I asked if I could borrow a rifle for a tactiac 3 gun match he was putting on. Well started handing me loose parts and after some time hunting around he found everything to make it go bang. I'll give ya a parts list as best I can. Upper is a DPMS flat-top Lower is a pretty beat up olimpic arms 4 position stock standard car style handguards JP stainless bold and carrier 16" fluted super match bbl(MFG unknown) A2 style birdcage style comp. but with 2 chambers(actually pushes the muzzle down gonna need some tuning ) It had a tower frontsight post/gasblock but a hacksaw reduced it to a gas block only and I got it for a steal. Won't mention how much but if you were to guess it would probly be high. Jeff is building his house and has had to clean his safe out a bit to pay off the inspecters. I'll post a pic tomorow if I get off my backside
  6. I have a peiced togather AR that I recently bought from a good friend. This rifle has a 16" super match fluted bbl. I was going to get 2-3 cases or the 62gr wolf ammo to feed it as I can get that for about $100 per case. The gun shoots sub MOA with it and makes power easily. But another friend told me that the steel cased ammo may damage the chamber on very tight chambers. is there any trute to this? and if so what's a good alternitive that's resonable cheap? Thanks for any info Tony
  7. I can't say how many shooters we have but as of now all is go. As far as I know we will be having a match if 10 people show up. We may not make any money off the match but there will be stuff to shoot if there are people to shoot it.
  8. YOu guys that are not in favor of the prize table may not have ever had the benifit of drawing from Jeff's prize tables. He has some magin up his sleaves I assure you. I don't really know how he does as well as he does with the cash alloted(prolly some serious arm twisting behind the scenes). Also at to why the fee it high 135 for a match seems about right to me the late regestration fee is high but that's to encourage shooters to regester early. It makes everyone's live easer if we have a good idea how many shooters we can expext well in advance. I have spoken with Mike extencivily about the match and I promice you a very memorable match. Some very intresting and chalanging stages in the lineup. I don't want to give too much away but I'm really excited. Please support us and get your apps in soon guys.
  9. SO far it seems pretty solid heh but it's only been about 2 weeks. As for the work we were pretty carefull about sandblasting all the old finish off. we used some walmart break cleaner to clean it and pre heated the parts over a propane space heater. The finish wasn't prefect. it was a bit splochy but was completely coated. it was a bit cold so we couldn't get any real controll of the spray. But the sloppy parts are covered with grip tape I plan on getting some slide work done sooner or later and will be refinishing the slide then. also Have a nasty looking AR that needs some refinishing love. More pics to follow
  10. check out the new paint job
  11. I can't say how many apps have come in but I know that several have. I also know that Mike is still gathering props and stuff. There is a sceduled range day for the 1st weekend in Mar. If you can come help out we would be grateful. Other than that the range/match seems to shaping up nicely.
  12. Ya ut 200 rds downrange today. Took us a few to get a solid zero because the rings were loose and I didn't norice right off but after that was fixed all was rosey. I plan on going back out in a few days and putting another 2hundred downrange. wanna get more trigger time and I want to see how this thing holds up. More to follow
  13. I recently bought an AR for 3 gun and having spent all my cash on the rifle I had very little to spend on optics so I looked at a few of the sites that have cheepie optics as a short term fix. I found this 1.25X4.5 with iluminated reticule and 75'FOV at 100 yards. Cdnn Cheap scope Did a little more looking and I found that ZOS changed to Rexoptics Rexoptics After I got the cdnn version I can confirn that they are indeed the same scope. The optics are suprisingly bright consitering the price. I haven't shot it much but will post more info when I do. So far looks like exactally what I was looking for. Anyone else played with this one?
  14. I took part one night shortly after I got it and after trying for 3 hours I finally got it back togather... but now it won't function. WTH I put everything back in there it should run well I got an exploded diagram and tried for another 3 hours and finally got it working again... Series 80 guns are a PAIN to get back togather. Well now it's series 70 with a brownells spacer in the void. and it's much easier to reassamble Started on the refinishing project. I also reworked the grip tape.
  15. Ok I have the menu done it will be something like this. There will be 3 meats, BBQ pork, BBQ chicken, and Chicken and Sausage gumbo/rice. There will be 3 sides Potato salad, Cole Slaw, Some beans(prolly pinto). The shooters will get a choice of one meat and 2 sides. A drink will also be provided. I will now rank the food in order of yumminess. 1. Gumbo Oh yea it is that good. Slightly spicey but not hot will stick to your ribs and have ya asking for more. 2. BBQ Pork this will be slow smoked( yea it's a pain but it's worth it) and so tender and moist you might not even have to chew. Sause will be on the side I prefer a KC style sause with a little bit of spice. 3. BBQ Chicken. THis will be grilled/smoked the day of the match as chicken doesn't keep/reheat as well as pork. It will be server hot off the grill. Also sause on the side. Now you know what's for lunch. I sugust that you mix it up a bit and get the gumbo on Sat and your fav BBQ on Sunday. Oh and if you are shooting C Limited you might not want to let the cook know that little tidbit till after you eat So Get your apps in and lets have a great match
  16. Hey guys I ordered 2 cans of Brownells Gun Kote. Glossy Black and Matte Silver. I'm thinking of doing a zebra srtipe pattern on my Para and matching it on my AR. Making ugly guns purty. What I need to know is if you can apply the silver over the black or if I will have to mask off the uncoted parts and have 2 curing processes. Also will it hurt the 1st finish to be reheated.
  17. wow your right that is one UGLY gun I ordered 2 cans on gun kote today. Glossy Black and Matte Silver. My friend has all the stuff to beadblast my gun so I plan on refinishing it in the next week or so. I'm thinking zebra stripes and doing my AR to match. John thinks that lepord spots would look better but I'm not sure if we can pull that off but the good thing is if we goof(as is almost guaranteed to happen) then we just blast off the insuing mess and start over I'll be sure to post more pics as more work is done Thanks for all the positive feedback
  18. BTT just want to keep this in the front page. Also get your match apps in they are posted now
  19. I'm trying to learn the treicks and stuff. I did have to get a smith to install the sights but everything else I did. So far I'm very happy with this gun. I have a few more things that I need/want but the biggest thing I need is more trigger time will post a few more pics when Imake more mods. I plan on refinishing the frame soon as the beavertail instalation requires some sanding and filing I am prolly going to get a can of Brownells GunKote and see how taht works out.
  20. THis is my curent labor of love I was shooting a POS high power knock off that was not relaible at all. THen while surfing Gunbroker I say this honey with a $495 buy it now price, and it just so happened that I had the money. So far the only mods are the DP Ice magwell, BoMar rear and Brazos FO front sight, and the STI beafertail. My gun please pay paticular attention to my exelent custom slide grip enhancments so far in all I have less than $750 in the gun and it has ran 100% for the 2k or so rounds I have shot through it
  21. When your 9 and 7 year old kids know what type of brass to pick up for daddy at the range WHen those same kids can read and understand the headstamp on the range brass
  22. Update. Sorta Mike has asked me if I would do the food for the match and I have graciously(if I do say so myself) agreed. While I haven't completely worked out the menu it will prolly be bbq/chicken or something very similar. I also plan on bringing out some of my VERY good but not quite world famious gumbo. For those of you that are't familar with my food all I can say is... your loss But I did the food for the Tactical 3 Gun match that Jeff hosted. That tought me some very important lessons about feeding 3 gunners. Most notiable NEVER and I nean NEVER let Woogie make his own plate. BTW Mike as told me that the food will be covered by your match fee so get that in fast so you can come and eat my cooking. You may also want to shoot the match since you will be there but that's up to you.
