  1. So I went out and got myself set of stripped AR receivers Brownell’s had a good sale and well what ya gonna do. What I'd like to do is build up a decent match rifle for shooting 3 gun. I have some ideas having shot a few matches but it's been a while and I have never built one from parts before. I'd like to have the complete rifle come in at under $1500(not counting the receivers I already have). With all that being said what is your collective advice on parts selection? What are the pit falls of building an AR that I should avoid? Thanks for reading and answering.
  2. Ok gun in 9MM and the whole topend was built and fitted. no accurails. The mags are new untuned mags with dawson basepads. I have tried the springs that came in the mags and a set of ismi 140mm springs. The mags seem to be sitting in the right place as the feed just fine with less than 12 rounds. I'm using 125 Zero JHP loaded to 1.140.
  3. Actually He built the top end and fitted it to my frame. the barrel is a Clark barrel and the ramp looks good. the mags are untouched. I have tried the para followers and also some of the grams followers I have both have exactly the same problem. the mags won't feed if more than 10-12 rounds are loaded.
  4. I just got my gun back from the smith and I am having trouble with my mags. If I put more that 10-12 rounds then the shells nose dive into the feed ramp and won't feed. I have tried replacing the springs with some spares that I have laying around, but no joy It looks to me like the springs are not putting enough pressure on the shells to get hold them in the correct position. But replacing the springs didn't fix the problem. I have Para P18 mags with dawson pads and ismi 140mm mag springs. Any ideas?
  5. I couldn't have said it better hehe. I listen to what ppl want and try to give it to them. That usually works wonders.
  6. what he said! plus trust your 'smith's opinion. VV list 6.0 max for 124gn per there web site -but V V and other powder companies generally WON'T tell you about 9mm Major - at least few will give "published" data for a 124 grn bullet. If you are not comfortable exceeding published 9mm loads, then 9mm and 38 super are probably not for you, and you might consider shooting another division in USPSA. Darianis: I am betting that the load you copied was for a gun with LOTS of holes in the barrel (ie "hybrid" holes). Probably that load you copied was for a gun which begins venting powder/gas after about 2" to 2.5". Are you shooting a gun with a full 5" barrel? If so, the loads will be very very different. Also, what OAL are you using? Many of the Major 9mm shooters are loading 9mm out to 1.200" using the Montana Gold 124 JHP - and if you are loading shorter then you will have pressure problems. Can you tell us more about your gun, your barrel and your OAL? Finally, what 9mm Major load did your gunsmith suggest? If he is not familiar with 9mm major, then either find another smith or switch divisions. Regards, d This is the quote from the original thread. This setup is identical to mine. My thoughts were why reinvnet the wheel when I have one right there in front of me.
  7. Well I'm not sure about a hook. I do good BBQ but in Alabama if you don't do good BBQ they kick you out I have several really good "cajun" dishes that are very popular. My gumbo is some of the best I have ever eaten. I have done catering before but it was mostly for shooting events, and as we all know most shooters will stuff anything down their gullets while at a match Still thinking it over not sure what I'm gonna do. I don't have a ton of money to put into anything now so I may have to wait hehe. Thanks for all the info
  8. I just want a round that makes power and is reliable. I have VV N350 and 3n37 avalable. I saw looked at that post saw that several people have used that load and liked it so I wanted to try it out and see how it worked.
  9. If your loading Major 9, I believe you are to hot. You should be more like 6.8/7.0. Hmm I used this page as a baseline and basically copied his load This load. Load data
  10. I loaded up a batch or zero 125 sitting over 7.8gn of N350 Winchester SRP Federal once fired. My smith fired 2 rounds and said they are too hot. The primers are flattening. He wants to see some load tables for this cartridge. I have looked and can't find anything can someone please give me a link to this or any info that will help me. Thanks Tony
  11. I have been toying with the idea of starting a catering business for some time now, and with my recent job loss now may be the time. I have cooked all my life and have catered several of the Area 6 matches. So I think I could do it for a living. The problem I have is I don't have any idea where to get any info on the legal requirements for food service. I know there are several government entities that regulate this activity. So if anyone has any ideas on where I need to look to get this information, I would appreciate it greatly. Also where would I look to find out the laws regarding shipment. ie internet orders or mail order. Thanks in advance Tony
  12. Yea it's a sidewinder. Just spoke to the smith and he is having ejection issues so I need to get him some more ammo to tune it up so that it runs the way he wants . He thinks that he may need to take two ports off the comp because it's too heavy but he is working on it. This guy is great! I can't wait to get my hot little hands on it!!!!
  13. asked my smith to build a new top end for my para p16. It is a great limited gun but I wanted to try open some and didn't have the cash to drop on a complete new gun. Asked him to make it look HOT. Well these are the results... :surprise:
  14. One of my line operators is names Micheal C. Hunt. when I say his name I had to ask him about it he assured me that was in fact his real name heh but he used his middle name Chris instead. I wonder if his parents were just mean or what... the kid was in his mid 20's
  15. I have to agree with everyone so far. It was the best movie I have seen in a very long time. I don't usually get emotionally connected with movie char but Clint gets me every time. RUN don't walk to go see this movie!
  16. I used to have pickey eaters... but now I can't stuff enough in em to fill em up! And to make matters worse they are both very trim. If I ate like that I would weigh 400 pounds in a week! damn them and their teenage metobolisms. BTW at work at 3AM is notthe time to read a food related thread. I'm starving now heh. Mmmmm chicken and dumplin's Kids love it... wife meh. reminded me of the time the wife and I were invited to a friends home to pick blueberries. She came back with a gallon bucket full of berries. Friends Mom asked if she ate any Wife just smiled a blue toothed smile
  17. While I don't think that our sport is the end-all of firearms training I thing it is a very solid componet. I read an exelent peice on Michial Bane's blog about this very issue. His point(which I totally agree with) was that our sport won't teach you tatics, but it will teach you gun handling, stressfire and other vital skills. Don't think for a second that USPSA is defencive shooting. It's not but it is a good basis for shooting skills as a whole. If you carry a gun you need to have more skills than the USPSA can provide alone.
  18. lately I have been having a problem with the benos forums not updating read posts. I mostly just hit the show new post and see all the new posts, but now when I hit view new posts I get like 43 pages is there a way to manually set post is not new? thanks Tony
  19. yea the gun is with the smith now. He called me and told me of the problem and I was doing some "outside" research. Since he hasn't called me back yet I'm pretty sure he figured out what he needs to do. DAMNIT I want my gun missing too many matches. That and working nights Fri. with mid morning matches Sat. ... What's a guy to do heh
  20. the one on the left. Cone come for a non bull bbl. Most Cone comps should be .575 X 40 You may end up needing a tap and die anc have to chase the threads a little. The Bull type is .685 X 40 Hmm that's odd cause the Clark BBL is 575x40... wonder what gives. I guess I'll just have to play with it a bit and see what I can come up with. thanks for the info
