Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Yep.There were several drills that were laid out for a "standard" practice setup... (three targets a yard apart) and goal times laid out for each drill from 3 yards to 50. There is also the same for the targets being spaced farther apart, and another aimed at those aiming for "B" class instead of just GM. Im not going to post the charts straight out of the book.... I would advise you to get Skills and Drills. I ordered a copy yesterday, as well as the Dry Fire book. And ordered Brian's book today (Kindle version, so that one I can start reading tonight).
  2. I will shoot my first IDPA match sometime in the next few weeks. Will use a M&P 9 full size (trigger parts from a M&P Pro) and Bladetech holster. I need to buy a magazine pouch and a 3rd mag.
  3. Hmm, I have fairly large hands, and my thumbs just barely reach the line through the base of my middle finger, just past the base of my index finger. You must have very long thumbs, or I misunderstood what you meant about the knuckle. My hand oddness is my pinkie, which is shorter than the last joint of my ring fingers, but luckily I haven't run into anything where that was a problem.
  4. I wear bifocals (not progressives), and have been having some troubles. Haven't been doing too bad with pistols as I get used to them, but the front sight is not in sharp focus. Rifles have been very difficult (as least with iron sights). I may just have to put optics on all of them. The post above about stick-on lens is a good thought, I may explore that. I was thinking what I needed was to get a pair of glasses with the dominant eye (right) set up similar to what I use as computer glasses (with short vision in the 18" to 30" or so range). I also have some contacts with one short range and one long, have not tried shooting with them yet. Good thread and glad to know I'm not the only one having issues like this.
  5. Got pointed here by a few sources, one of which is going to be helping me along (Howdy Bob!) here in the Central Texas area. I live between Buda & Kyle, south of Austin, and I'm about halfway between the two ranges that seem to be seeing a lot of activity in the area (Austin Rifle Club and the Cedar Ridge Range in Bulverde). Just cracked the half-century mark a few weeks back, and I'm just now getting into action shooting. For that matter, just now getting back into shooting at all after many years, haven't shot regularly since college days. Mostly did rifle then, so pistols are a new thing. I've taken my CHL class (have to say, that was extremely easy shooting, with less than 100 rounds of pistol fired prior to the class, I scored 249 out of 250). Still waiting on the processing though. Also have taken another pistol introduction class (that worked out to be after the CHL, not that it mattered much). I am planning on taking more training, probably through KR Training. I'm interested in the sport opportunities around here, which seems to be mostly IPDA and USPSA, and have been skeet shooting a few times this year. Can't afford a suitable rifle for 3-gun yet, although I already have a nice shotgun for it. That's going to be down the road a few months. Anyway, look forward to checking out the forum and chatting with y'all!
