  1. Don't get too excited regarding the current USPSA management and start looking for a scapegoat, this may have been going on for years. Stuxnet freaked people out a couple a years ago and now Regin is freaking people out this week. Putting anything on the internet, you generally have to assume it is insecure. Unless you strongly encrypt at the source, tunnel through a VPN and decrypt at the destination, your data is not secure. Anything that is convenient, not requiring you to be an active participant, is probably compromised now or will be in the next year or two.

    Just be very careful.

Certificate Authorities - VeriSign, DigiNotar, KPN and others hacked.

    OpenSSH - early versions hacked

Windows 95 to present - ALL versions of windows have an "in plain site security issue". (CVE-2014-6332)

There are many others. Treat your personal data just as money left on a table at a restaurant, anybody can see it, the honest people will remain honest, but you don't know after you leave. (No traces leading back to you either.)

This is a red herring. Yes, even well protected data is vulnerable (ie Target, Home Depot) but USPSA didn't have the data well protected only to be thwarted by a group of expert hackers. They left the doors unlocked and three weeks of newspapers on the steps.

  2. I have a few PPQs and a few Glocks with the ZEV ultimate trigger, which I think is about as good as it gets with a Glock. It may be a bit lighter than then stock PPQ trigger, but the PPQ still has better take up, break, and reset.

That said, I shoot my Glocks because they're easier to get parts for. Dawson and 10-8 make PPQ sights, and you can get holsters and mag pouches, but that's about it.

  3. I'm not sure what it's called, but it's thin plastic sheeting with a mild adhesive on the back. It's used in new homes to protect the carpet during final cleaning. You could buy a roll of that. Do the whole room, and then put your plywood on to of the plastic under the bench. That would keep the primers that get away out of your carpet, and give you a hard surface directly under your bench for easy cleanup.

    Best idea yet.

  4. Titegroup may suck in the 929. Burns hot so will probably make the cylinder uncomfortable to handle while reloading on long strings. At least I had that issue with some mild loads using power pistol over the summer.

  5. I'd go Acura, but I'm biased - I have 2. The TLs are good and enough power, but don't shine unless you upgrade to the SH AWD. With the SH AWD they corner better the MORE you get on the gas - scary fun. Wife has a 13 MDX and it corners as well as my FWD 07 TL.

The new RDXs downgraded the AWD system to that used in the CRV to improve mileage. Fine for snow, but no torque vectoring fun.

  6. Discoloration is caused by blocking UV, not sure if the plastic mat would cause it.

You could float laminate over carpet. Get some cheapo .69/sqft stuff at grossmans. It would feel squishy to walk on but another way and better odds of keeping primers from rolling off the hard surface.

  7. I ordered 115 xtreme thick plated to try. I got 1 inch groups at 35 yards at 170 pf. So I ordered 3000... I get 10" groups now... I bet they tried to reduce some cost in material by marking the bullets softer in the second batch I got. Interesting part is that up to 20 yards, it stays within 2 inches, but at 35 it opens up to 10". My zero 125hp give me 1" at 35 yards.

The latest batch of xtreme 115 is .3545. I also have 135 fp xtremes that are .3555, these are giving me 2" at 35 yards... Once I finish my extremes, going back to zeros.

I've noticed something similar. There seems to be a wide variation in the hardness of the alloy used - I have used several thou of the 147 TPs, some seat well, some batches are so soft the seating die deforms a good number.

  8. Did you get the extended firing pin? I did and no issues w CCI with the 2# spring. You will have the same issue w the pyramid if you don't have an extended pin, or just switch to federal primers.

With the extended pin I get some pierced primers with federals, no issue w CCIs.

  10. I just installed one of these on my 34. Advertised as fitting into the IDPA "box", and doesn't require the use of extended mag pads. They don't sell by specific Glock model. There's one for Gen 1,2,&3, and one for Gen 4. You might give them a call and ask about your specific model.

ZEV doesn't make a large frame magwell. I believe Carver Custom is the only one making large frame Gen 4 magwells. Not sure if they fit the box.

  11. I picked one up after reading this thread. Primers kept getting hung up in the supplied tubes somewhere between the black locking nut and the tube. Took the tip off one of my hornady feed tubes and tried that, primers got stuck on the lip inside where the tip usually sits. Nearly put it away in frustration, but then put the tip back in the hornady tube and cut it flush with the end of the tube. Filled the tray with primers, held the tube in place, and presto - no more issues. I don't use the black nut because I don't find the tray moving around / falling out and it's an extra step that slows down a process I was trying to speed up. Definitely glad I picked one up.

  12. Thanks for the ideas thus far. I should add there's a HP minimum of 300. CPO C63 AMG, and CPO S4 are both on the consider list thus far. The C63 doesn't make the 20mpg highway rating I wanted, but it's close at 19...and it's 481 HP...you just can't hate that.

I had a C32 AMG back in the day. With an overdrive pulley on the supercharger and a beefed up pump for the intercooler made about 400 BHP - pretty fast 10 years ago. That said, maintenance and repair costs on Mercs / Audis / BMWs suck. I'm not sure how quality is on them today, but I probably spent $200 / month on maintenance & repairs from the time it went out of warranty until I sold it.

If you're driving a jeep, anything with more than 300 HP is going to be fast enough to get you in trouble. 400+ just requires another level of discipline. I remember getting on the gas to get on onramps and finding myself doing 95+ as I got to the end of ramp / merging area.

Since I've sold that I've stuck with Acuras - can't go wrong with Lexus either. A loaded MDX is in your budget and with SH-AWD it can corner as well as some cars. A TL or TLX with SH-AWD is more fun to drive than you might expect. You can push around corners faster than you might think, which is half the fun of driving.

  13. I stand corrected. There was a major powder adjustment going from Titegroup to Bullseye.

Maybe this powder is on the verge of going bad and has lost some of its potency ?

Not sure what you mean by this. Based on the volumetric density chart I have, a measure giving you a 4.3 GR charge of Titegroup should give about a 3.4 GR charge of Bullseye. Is that about what you found?

As long as the powder is stored properly it should last decades...

  14. Do you think they could add a rule that would state which angle the brass can come out? That would make it easier for you. Maybe even a rule about max temp of expended brass?

Of course, just getting out of the way is probably the simple approach.

How about a rule where people like you seeking attention are precluded from posting drivel? While such a rule would impact certain peoples' ability to make themselves feel good about themselves, it would certainly remove a lot of trash from threads.

The irony of this post is nearly beyond description. Well played.
