  1. I had a similar issue in another S&W recently. The hammer was dragging on the (interruptor? Blocks hammer travel w cylinder open) at the end of travel. This can masquerade as the problem noted above because pulling the cylinder release rear brings the interruptor just a bit further back so there's no interference.

  2. Nowhere in that letter of few facts did it say they have no receipts for $144K.

I would assume that if they put those amounts into the suspense account it was because they didn't know what the charges were for. In other words, if there is a $30,000 credit card bill and you were missing a receipt for $100 you would only put the $100 amount in the suspense account, not the whole thing.

Correct. Only unaccounted for charges would be suspended.

  3. Gun Nuts Media posted the resignation letter on their website with the spreadsheet of the "suspected" transactions. 2 transactions alone accounted for nearly half of the funds. ~$34K and ~$37K, I know my company would allow an expense report to pass through like that without receipts.

Quite possibly related to nationals no? Those aren't single transactions, they're payments to the CC companies.
Seems it would be easy to have a receipt then!

The transactions (payment of the CC balance) are put into suspense until receipts supporting the CC charges (that ran up the balance). So a $37,000 transaction on the suspense account could be 1 or 100 individual charges.

  5. I use bacon grease. It smokes a little, but it works fine and smells great. :D

I'm going to have to give this a try... Maybe it will slow down the guy shooting after me while he tries to figure out who's making bacon..?

Makes everyone hungry. Then they load up on hot dogs and chips and want a nap. :D

I'll take any edge I can get.

  6. Looks like the USPSA accountant just resigned over $140k in unsubstantiated charges.

I just saw the resignation letter.

Seems pretty legit to me as resignation letters go.

Seems like business as usual at USPSA headquarters. Exactly what I would expect from this leadership team.

Let's be fair to the person who quit - the $140K in unsubstantiated charges weren't made by the accountant as this might imply. The letter (which is available on USPSA's festering sore if the link is broken) states they were made by the ED. So I'm sure they're all legit, nothing to see here.
  7. We should all remember we're using very fast powders in the .38 Short Colt loads. Thus I expect all the powder burn has occurred in the first 4-5 inches of barrel. Longer barrels will slow down bullets after the burn is finished.

    Bob.

This is not entirely accurate. The powder burn being completed is not what determines if the bullet begins to slow. What determines that is when the force applied by the pressure of compressed gases behind the bullet is less than frictional force between the bullet and the barrel.

  8. Apparently Peter has decided it is not worth the trouble.

He does make a good point about less than crisp moonclips, things are loose, and right now I see that is the biggest issue. When dave hearth clip+starline 38 are the standard you are used to you are going to be unhappy with how much movement there is.

The other problem/discrepancy is these guns are slower by a big margin with ammo that otherwise easily makes PF in a 4.7" 9mm pistol. That is easy enough to fix though.

Time will tell, i've seen the posts that people are expirementing with different thicknesses, maybe a different pocket size, something is going to be come up with.

Or maybe not, with an adequate chamfer it probably doesn't matter, mine came from the factory with zero chamfer and just playing around I was not having any serious problems getting them to drop in...

The ad is a bit tongue in cheek and may not have been written in one of my finest moments. If it doesn't sell (which is likely) I'll hang onto it and try it in a stock rather than open configuration. In the meantime the hunt is on for a 627 Vcomp - or rather it will be once I wrap up a 3 week hiatus from all things shooting and my gunbroker account gets unlocked.

  9. I get the back marks on my 986 & 929 but that cylinder seems a bit funky to me. I'm interested in seeing how this auction shakes out as I'm contemplating trying to trade my 929 for an ANIB 627 Vcomp.

  10. Did you try starting with a manual??? VV publishes their data online for free.

1999 is not too old if it has been stored appropriately. There is no such thing as "open powder" - N350 just has a slower burn rate than, say, N320.

Yes you need to read more. Reloading can be safe. Developing loads the way you have described is not.

  11. Need some help with my load:

Firearm: SJC Glock in .40 (built from G22)

    Powder: N350/6.5gn

    Xtreme 165 RHFP – OAL 1.135

    Xtreme 180 HP – OAL 1.138

I tested and started with 4.0gn and she did not even cycle the slide – keep testing/moving up to 6.5gn and now it will recycle 90% (I think I may have to go to 7.0gn). I have not even started any chrono yet (just want the damn thing to recycle first! LOL). :goof:

So I tested today with my 6.5 gn load and found that the recoil with the 180g was much higher/harder than my 165g bullet (similar OAL/same amount of powder).

What is the reason for that? I thought heavier bullet will give smaller flip?

    Is there a problem with:

    • Powder too old (manufacture date 1999) – sorry, I can’t find any HS6 or Autocomp – need to use whatever I have now

    • Do I need more powder to get more gas (for the comp)?

    • Any other suggestions?

Thanks for everyone’s help in advance.

Is this a joke? If not, you need to read the part of your load manual before the recipes before you blow a gun up.

It's reloading 101 that a given powder charge under a heavier bullet or with a shorter OAL will result in higher pressures and higher momentum (aka recoil).

Normally one REDUCES the powder charge as try increase the weight or reduced the OAL for a given bullet (which you've effectively done by loading a longer bullet to the same length as a shorter one).

The problem is not with your powder or your equipment, but rather your woefully inadequate knowledge base.
