  1. Fn is a mil spec and an ISO 9000 quality manufacturer. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend their products in terms of quality.
  2. Shot a match today with my G34. Finished fifth out of 105 shooters which wasn't horrible, my point was my Glock was running well. My friend SUFF let me re-run the last stage using his Benny Hill custom 9mm 2011 for kicks after the match to compare. It was an all steel stage, and I beat my Glock time by 1.5 seconds on a 15-18 second stage with no misses. It truly is like cheating. There's no comparison on the recoil absorption of the heavier steel gun, or the trigger mechanism moving straight back as opposed to a fulcrum like the glock & M&P. I think the pull weight was around 2.5 lbs. No comparison. Stupid good. The only drawback I see is they sometimes can be picky with ammo, extractor reliability, and mags give guys some issues at matches. That and the cost, and a good custom tuned 2011 will run north of $3,000 before mags. Hard to justify that when I'm running a $600 glock 34 with a $35 Zev connector and spring kit as good as most of the guys locally. I'd love to have one from Mr. Hill one day, just can't afford it now. In terms of performance, no comparison. There's a reason most all of the top shooters run 2011's.
  3. It's really hard to beat any manufacturer listed , especially Larue. The OBR is typically sub MOA all day. Personally I have an LMT due to its availability (no year wait like Larue and other custom gas guns), durability, reliability and accuracy. The British selected it as their DMR rifles, our spec ops have used it on a limited basis some too, and although heavy it will run with the custom guns for most shooters. As with all military firearms, it has survived numerous hard use and torture tests meaning it will nearly always be running without issue. After a five round sight in, I was able to shoot consistent 3 shot groups at or under .5" with 168 gr Federal GMM (Bushnell DMR 3.5-21x with G2 reticle). No it's not five shots and yes it was only 100 yards, but I believe it demonstrates the accuracy potential and puts LMT up there for the money with Larue, JP, etc. This was done off a bipod as I don't have a bench rest at the moment. Can other guns shoot more accurately? Maybe, but can I? Probably not. When you can cover the rounds with a dime, I can't ask for much more. Iive always shot 3 shot groups and personally wouldn't consider 5 necessary when evaluating a gas blaster. Your real challenge with gas gun accuracy is going to be the loss of velocity from a short barrel for extended range shots anyway. A gun that is sub .5 moa accurate is going to do its part to 800 yds (1,200 if you are Todd Hodnett and the boys at Accuracy 1st). Additionally, some have mentioned the 6.5 mm ballistics being superior to the .308, and I agree. But with the purchase of extra barrels and two turns of a torque wrench I can be sending 6.5 Creedmore or .260 Remington rounds down range from the exact same MWS platform. With ammo availability fluctuations and different hunting scenarios, the LMT is the best option to shoot different calibers depending on differing situations with the same gun. There may be more accurate custom guns out there, but for the overall package I don't see how you could do better than an LMT MWS, unless weight is more important than repeatable accuracy.
  4. I had the same problem with my M&P pro 5". A lot of the low left was shooter error and trigger control coming from a Glock trigger. The remedy of that is to just shoot and practice. However, I was warned by a buddy of mine that shoots an M&P in competitions that they require a but of a break in period before they start shooting properly. Taking the shooter out of the equation, after around 500 rounds or so, my M&P started to group tighter and now shoots point of aim. Was I more familiar with the gun by then? Of course. But there was a noticeable difference in accuracy that was evident on a bench rest. I was ready to send the gun back to S&W. Now, however, what was once a shotgun pattern at 15-20 yards is now a much tighter 2-3" group and poa/poi. Personally, I still think my Glock 34 is a more accurate pistol, at least for me and my guns. I know everyone's experience will vary. The M&P feels better in the hand, but the Glock has always shot better for me.
  5. Greetings from the Volunteer state... Welcome to the forum.
  6. Welcome, good info here on just about anything shooting related.
  7. I run a Zev 3.5 lb connector and spring, also not high tech but it gives a true 3.5 to 4 lb trigger pull. Over travel is a little longer than optimal with this setup however, but the gun has been 100% reliable. I'd like to give the Vogel or Skimmer a try. I love short trigger travel. I like to feel the wall as soon as my finger hits the trigger, I don't get this with my current setup.
  8. The STI Trojan is a wonderful single stack comp gun. Two big thumbs up. Highly recommended.
  9. Maybe the FNX just fits your hand better in terms of size, grip angle, etc. You are also talking about two completely different trigger mechanisms (striker vs Da/Sa) and comparing apples to oranges. When I started learning fundamentals, I bought and watched the Art of the Dynamic Handgun DVD's with Costa and Haley of Magpul. They don't teach competitive shooting necessarily, but fundamentals of running a weapon. It was a great starting point for me (grip, recoil control, trigger control, sight picture, malfunction drills and mag changes). I'm no expert, but with this foundation and practicing with some members of my local range, I went from my first ever match to taking production division periodically at my local club in only a few months (USPSA classified B shooter in 8 months).
  10. Greetings from Tennessee. Newbie here, any ORSA members out there? Looking forward to shooting the match this weekend.
  11. Hello, and welcome. Cool name, I love the Horus reticle for precision shooting. I take it you are a horus reticle user? Which scope?
  12. Welcome, and hello from the other side of the country (Tennessee). Newbie here too, trying to get acquainted.
  13. Thank you for your service, also a newbie from TN. Enjoy the reloading, I hope to get into that one day soon.
