Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I just bought a new M&P Pro 9mm 5" with the fiber optic front sight. I went to the range today to test and I was surprised at how low it was shooting. I shot ~ 50 rounds just to test the gun function and get a feel for the trigger and then moved on to a bench rest since I had noted that I was shooting left and low. I originally had thought it may have just been user error but the bench rest yielded the same results. My group from the rest was precise (~1-2" group) but the accuracy was low. I am not so worried about the gun shooting to the left, I can drift the sights to adjust for this, but I was concerned about it shooting so low. It was shooting ~8" low, and very repeatable. My question is how to hold on these fiber optic sights. I was holding the top of the front blade to match the top of the rear sight and then holding right on the bullseye. This is what has typically worked for me in the past on my 1911's. Is the fiber optic sight supposed to be used differently. Any advice is appreciated. I went to the range excited to shoot a new gun and now I just want to move back to my ole' reliable 1911. Details of what shooting: Range: 15 Yards Bullet: Blazer Brass 9mm 124g Gun: M&P Pro 9mm 5"
  2. I have been loading some 230 grain Precision Delta FMJ bullets and came across one that the nose is flattened and was ~ 10 grains below average weight. I found this during my inspection of final ammo. Question is would you fire it through a gun, or disassemble and toss the bullet? I know the correct answer , but just curious as to others who might have experienced similar defects. I am new to reloading and this bullet came out of my 2nd batch, no issues thus far and addicted to reloading.
  3. I am new to reloading but this site has been really helpful, also thanks to Brian Enos who I ordered the equipment from. I finished setting up my 550b last night and ran 20 pieces. My questions center around repeatibility of the equipment. FYI I am setup on 45 ACP. -What is normal +/- range for the powder drop? I was running Bullseye powder and weighing every 2nd or 3rd charge. From my records I was getting +/-0.1 grains. This was not concerning to me at all, just curious as to others experience. I realize this will vary based on powder. - Is it normal on the return stroke (table moving back down) for there to be drag on the case with the powder funnel? This motion does not seem fluid. Is there anyway to smooth this out? - What is a normal OAL variation? I was loading 230 grain Precision Delta FMJ. - Normal amount of belling on the case mouth after sizing? I set my press up to give me ~ 0.002" bell and this seemed to give great results at bullet seating and crimping (I did check my rounds dimensionally and in a case gage. I have read the reloading manuals, tips, etc. But have not really seen a number. As some background, I am a design engineer so knowing my process and product I am very meticulous. My questions may be overly cautious but I was hoping to impart some wisdom of long time reloaders.
