  1. The round I picked up was the one the jammed. The other I caught when I had to unload and show clear so I kept them separate. Ok let me rephrase the above. When reloading I use a case gauge to check that they drop in and out easily without any hang ups. Then when choosing my match ammo I check all the primers and barrel drop each one to make sure they drop in and out without any resistance. I have no problem dropping them in and spinning them in the chamber. They are not hitting the rifling or binding at all. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. I hand picked all of my match ammo and dropped them all individually in the barrel. If there was any doubt I set it aside as practice ammo, thats why I am really stumped as to what the heck happened. I full length size everything and seat them to 1.155 never had a single problem with about 2k rounds down range recently.
  3. Ok, so I just recently joined IDPA, I have been a recreational shooter for about 4 years now and a friend got me into IDPA and soon USPSA. This weekend I shot my first major and on the 6th stage I had my first malfunction ever. I was shooting my XDm 5.25 9mm with reloads 147gr over 3.0gr of Titegroup. I drew hit the first target once in zero zone and when I pulled the trigger for the second shot I got a click. I tried to rack it hard it wouldnt budge. I dropped the slide and then proceeded to spend the next 60 seconds fumbling around trying everything I could to get the slide to come back and pull out the round. I finally get it to free up and eject the round. I slammed the magazine in racked a fresh round and continued to finish the stage shooting all zeros for the 2 rounds on all 6 targets. Ended up taking a score of 70 seconds when it should have been around 10. After everything was over and holstered I searched for the round that was stuck. I looked it over and had a few other experienced guys check it out. None of us could find anything wrong that would have caused the jam. I tried it again once I got home and it chambered just fine, the OAL is spot on there are no bulges or anything that I can see that would cause a hang up. Just looking for possible answers or ideas what it could have been.
  4. I pickup all I can here too but sometimes there just isn't enough brass to keep the reloader fed lol. I had to breakdown and buy brass for The Brass Exchange which was by far the cheapest I could find at like $180 for 5k Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Yea I'm not sure how the thread got so far off topic but whatever. I have tried shooting a little one shot on the cases and they do go much much easier I just hate to have to add another couple steps in reloading when the carbide dies are supposed to be no lube required. I can't argue though that they do go much better with a bit of one shot on them. I took the die completely apart and cleaned it all up before using it. The die actually got harder and harder to use the more I used it until It got to the point that it would hang in the die and not want to come out causing the whole bench to want to jump around. Timing is adjusted I played with the pals originally and haven't had to play with them since. It indexes right to the detents every time. Yes this is all with full shell plate though I did trouble shoot by removing the dies one at a time to narrow down the culprit I am using the aftermarket powder funnel instead of the lee since it liked to hang up also on the upstroke and made for two hiccups when lowering the ram as the case pulled out of the sizing die and as it let go of the expanding insert. 6. I load up 147gr bayou over 3.0gr of Titegroup at a COAL of 1.150. This load is extremely accurate and soft recoiling. Also it makes 138 Power Factor out of my XDm 5.25 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. This is all on my Hornady Lock n Load Progressive with stations as follows 1 - Size and Deprime 2 - Prime 3 - Charge and Expand with Powder Funnel 4 - Seat 5 - Crimp
  8. Ok, update again. I received a new die in the mail today. The guy attached a note saying he could not polish out the chatter marks from machining so he replaced the die. I ran down to the bench got it all set up and the first 25 or so cases went relatively easy and about 1/3 of the force the last die required. Fast forward about 100-150 rounds, the die sticks just as bad as the one it replaced. Now I am officially at a loss on what to do. I tore it apart and cleaned everything just to be sure but that didnt help. The brass is all fired out of an XDm 5.25 9mm running 130PF so nothing crazy. I clean it using walnut media with nu finish for about 3-4 hours. Nothing I do seems to help unless I lube every other case. Is it just the Lee dies that dont like my setup or what? Seriously contemplating trying a different brand at this point. I need to get loading to support practice and shooting majors.
  9. More than likely the rounds just won't perform as well with a mix of slow burning rifle powder but they should function for practice ammo. Just pay attention for squibs. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. It's won't cause a problem. The guy above accidentally used pistol powder in a .223 round which caused catastrophic failure. You are talking about a few flakes of a slow burning rifle powder in with fast burning pistol powder. Load it up use it for practice Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. I use the brass exchange. Brass comes tumbled ready to load and is separated in sealed bags of 1000. Makes storage and setup easy. I just pounded out 5000 that I got a few weeks ago Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Ok a few things may help. Get the bench rock solid and level if possible. The shellplate needs to be tight, use the hornady wrench or your hand to hold it back and tighten it up. The clank means something is loose and moving when it's not supposed to so have to find the issue. Also, What brand and model of sizing die are you using? If it is not a carbide die you will need to lube the cases prior to sizing them. 9mm suck being tapered it takes more force than 40 or 45 to size. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Heard back from Lee today the guy Peter confirmed he saw the chatter marks from machining that I described. He said he was going to have the die repolished and tested and would get back to me. Hopefully that's all it takes and I'll be good to go in a few days. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Well I sent the die back a few days ago now just waiting to hear from them or a new die to show up. If this doesn't work I'll have to try a different company. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Well I tried to get a Macro but for some reason my A100 would not cooperate even with the lens on macro and trying both manual and auto focus. The inside of the carbide insert has machining marks more specifically chatter marks. Lee responded twice saying to just lube the cases but I kept telling them I have tried a different sizer and the problem went away so now a different guy emailed me back today with an RMA number and is aggreeing to repair/replace the die.
  16. I have already gone through to make sure it's not something else. The sizing die is definitely the culprit. I tried to get a macro but I cannot find the lens for the dslr and my phone wouldn't take a decent pic that you could see anything so I'll try again in the morning Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. I will try and take a pic or two now and attach them Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. No I bought carbide dies so I wouldn't have to use case lube. I did try some one shot on a few cases and it was noticeably better but I shouldn't have to. Like I said the dillon sizer went through them like it was nothing that's why I wondered if maybe I had an out of spec die or something. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. Ok, I have a Hornady LnL with Lee Carbide die set in 9mm. I am having a hard time sizing brass while loading. There are times is requires a ridiculous amount of force to size the brass and even more to get it to release on the downstroke. I have been forced to use two hands at times and I know this should not be the case. I contacted Lee and their initial response this morning was to lube the cases. A friend of mine has a 650 with dillon dies and I got the chance to load on his press last night using all of my components and brass. His press ran like butter compared to mine. I sent back to Lee telling them that I isolated it down to their sizing die and that a dillon carbide die did not have any of the same issues. Also when I removed the Lee die I looked inside and there are wavy lines that almost look like machining marks that were not polished out before shipping. Does anyone have any ideas what I can/should do?
  20. Right now mine are loaded out to 1.150 over 3.0gr Titegroup and make 132PF
  21. What kind of died are you using? Sounds to me like the cases are getting stuck in sizing die in between upstroke and downstroke. I have this issue with a lee carbide die and I will probably be switching very soon. If you have some one shot with you spray one case and run it through the sizing die. If it goes extremely easy then you know it's your die Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. Yea I suggested that in the other thread as soon as it was mentioned that the android version is still working. Hopefully tapatalk is working on this for a patch quick!!!
  23. I cannot access or see anything within the forums from my phone or iPad. I'm running Iphone 5 ios 7.0.4 Tapatalk 2.4.0 iPad 3 ios 7.0.4 Tapatalk 2.4.0 Update: mine originally came across as a network error but now after uninstalling and reinstalling the app I am getting the same message others have mentioned that I have entered the wrong password or access is restricted via tapatalk
  24. So I have been using tapatalk for a little over a year never had any problems but now all of a sudden I can't pull up the BE forums I just get generic unable to load. All of my other forums load but not this one. Very irritating that I can't look up stuff whenever I want
  25. What clubs around here (Youngstown) have IDPA matches? I have been looking to get into it for next year but my club doesn't do anything like that and I don't know anyone that competes.
