Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I had the same concerns. I tracked the reloading and got 3+ reloads, that said, I find one reload is generally o.k. (= 3 times fired). BUT also, I've gotten to the point where I can "feel" a loose primer going in and just chuck the shell. I really havn't had a problem with mixed headstamps?. Funny, I always come home with more brass that I've shot as a lot of shooters will give you their once fired brass, if they don't reload. Can't say that about 38 Super!. Only had 1 loose primer that came out and had ???? how many reloads on it(of course, it jamed up the gun). I'm only shooting round nose FMJ's. I use Win. small rifle primers and either #7625 /or/ Sillouette powder. I actually BOUGHT once fired, "plated" + P brass for use at major matchs for 1.5 cents, ain't it FUN! mike g
  2. I think ANY gun has possibilites BUT you are going to need to be like the rest of the "players" in some respects.... a good trigger in the 2# or less range. Get a C-more and start with a larger module (can always be changed). Have at least 1, 170mm mag with quality spring and follower. Start with a round nose bullet for openers, use "jacketed" bullets(I am asuming you will use a after market barrel/comp. set-up) as you won't like the "mess" from lead. Powders, several will work(#7625,3n37,Silloette(< spelling -2 points). Most are using a 124 bullet. I don't know if a "long" firing pin(striker) is availible/or/ needed for the Glock, but primer flow can be a problem. Win. smaller rifle primers are a good bet. When you get "gamey",consider a "GHOST" holster for the Glock, but for starting, a "Uncle" will work. Have some reduced power recoil springs on hand, don't be afraid to try some very light ones. Have FUN!!, remember it's a game/sport. IN the END, it's the shooter not the GUN!. Lastly, DON'T be put off by some of the unkind "posts" others have offered, go your own way!! IF THE GREAT ONE was shooting a Glock EVERYBODY would be ON that bandwagon!. mike g
  3. Well, LOTS of times I don't SEE any holes??.... BUT,...I think they call those"mikes"? I also never did understand why they call those other things "no shoots"???, as I can hit them all the time AND THINK THEY ARE EASIER TOO HIT THAN THE "A"s??? OH well, on to???"mike" g
  4. Well, I'll paddle against the flow.. OPEN GUNS..Ask your self what caliber am I going too shoot? I'm with the trend to 9mm major. SHOULD I shoot 38 super, 38 su. comp., 38 TJ or what? . (Used to shoot EAA/P9's 9 x 21 in the "OLD" days)(Still have them). I have 2 open sti's. (1, 38 super,1 9mm). They are excellent guns. BUT for the MONEY (and small hands) I don't think you can beat the large frame EAA's in either 9mm or 38 super. Replace the slide lock with a hardened one and extend the safety out a touch, replace the rubber grips w/ some flat alum. plate, add a C-MORE, VERY few $$$$ and your off and running.. . If your on a budget and still want too play???.. You can usally find the new/used EAA guns very reasonibly priced if you look a bit. I'll vote for the EAA. Most courses of fire these days are going to take a mag change, so the lack of a 170mm mags is not such a big deal? (weld 2 together?)..LITTLE thought...If you are THE #1 shooter in the world??? what gun would YOU choose to shoot,... hummm I wonder ????... EGW still has mag wells, sears? etc. availible and Brownells has springs, mag extentions etc. WHAT ever gun /caliber you pick?? start with 9mm and SEE IF YOUR HAPPY?? any gunsmith can ream it to 38 Super/9 x 23 if your not BUT you can't go the other way without a new barrel. I like the thought that your MIND is not made up? GOOD LUCK. mike g
  5. IF you are at all handy?...go to Lowes/Home Depot. Buy the 2" aluminum angle, get out your hacksaw/file...You can make many "Alcin" style mounts/w/blast sheild for UNDER $10. You will need to locate a couple holes... just take your time! TRY IT, YOU WILL LIKE IT!! mikey1
  6. SRT. Sounds like you need to do a little work on one follower,(600 sandpaper works). Look on the side of the mags...NO markings for 9mm) if they are true factory?/or/ maybe, you have 41AE mags too? THEY are marked as to caliber, (40S&W is marked 41 AE). On my small frame gun, I have both 9mm & 40 S&W set-ups(W/mags). The 40 S&W's (41AE) hold only 12 BUT this is ok for LMT 10 IF you shoot that class. SUPPOSEDLY?, the small frame 40S&W barrel fits the large frame gun 10mm (I don't have the 10mm slide yet, BUT even if not, The CONVERSION barrel is availible). THAT's my next project... I think I can get 18 +1 rounds of 40 S&W @ 140mm into the large frame gun.. which will work for LIMITED class....A $500 setup that is competitive with the BIG $$$$ guns. ANYHOW?, Use the mag lip specs on this site for the correct diamentions... maybe bent feed lips???mike g
  7. I just received 13 mags from reedsammo...all factory.. for large frame x $20 a pop. Used 3ea. in the 45 I just bought (Semi-wadcutters.... worked fine, no problems,AFTER I polished the feed ramp and SLIGHTLY changed the top of the feed ramp angle). IN the "OLD" P-9 days ?? I always used the long Wolff springs and could get 21 in 9x21 w/ mag extention. What are the mags/pistol doing?? What bullet are you using? Check out the savvysurvivor.com site, FREE info. mike g
  8. Can anyone inform... is a mag extention availible for this shotgun, thanks, mike g
  9. Another 2 cents worth??? "OLD" shooter, I have had C-More's since they were first hand built. Tascos etc...too, (I have a PD-3 on a "old" P-9 open gun). I never liked the "tube". I'm able to find the "dot" much easier with the C-More. Our shooting bays face the South ... always looking into the sun. It's nice too be able to change modules if you wish/want. Add up all the GM's who have to BUY their equipment...probably LOTS more C-More's than Aimpoints???? Plus service is excellent if needed! mike g
  10. Flexmoney... The "baggie" is a great idea!!!. (The "springs arn't common and why have a gun down for a $1.00 spring???) I didn't EVEN get into converting the gun to single action....or.... "silver soldering" a lip on the safety too make it easier for us people with smaaaall hands to operate. OR the large frame guns which can shoot 9mm, 9x21, 9x23, 38 Super, 10mm, 40 S&W or 45 auto. So actually, I was reasonibly calm?? If I could get 28,29 rounds into them ...I still would be popin away. I've got my 9mm major STI gun up and running BUT am building a large frame EAA in 45 auto for LTD. 10 or beer can boppin. YOU CAN"T HAVE TOO MANY GUNS!!!. mike g
  11. EAA info. Brownells has springs. Go to, savvysurvivor.com ...very good tutorial on EAA pistols. I'm right handed ... moved mag release to right side. BE CAREFUL! when removing ANY roll pins, SPRINGS go flying. I cut one coil from mag spring for a easier release. POLISH parts ... works great( I use the "green" stuff from rock polishing store)(IF you move the mag catch to the right side ?? hold your finger over the very small hole on the left side of the mag catch AS the mag spring has very very small insert that will go "flying" when the trigger bar guide is removed) IF desired, you can polish the sear while it is in the group, without dissasemly(use a narrow, fine stone). While frustrating???? all springs can be removed and replaced using needle nose pliers and I try not to completly remove any roll pins and use a small finish nail as a guide on the opposite side for reinstalling the pins/springs. TIP... Don't work on these guns in a "cluttered area" springs WILL go flying(use a white sheet on the floor). To remove the sear group, you need to pull the saftey out, too do this, lift the end of the safety retainer spring end up and move it to the left or right (I use slim knife blade) so it's locked out of the groove. These guns are a great deal, cheap and you can do the work on them yourself ... if you wish. Reedsammo.com has mags/top ends/guns. A little flouresant paint fixes the front sight. Never used a super sight, did not see the need...? I've put a stop scew in the trigger to eliminate some over-travel BUT the trigger is made of VERY hard steel... wasted several drill bits. The small frame guns can shoot both 9mm and 40 S&W with barrel/slide/mag changes... you could shoot Ltd. 10 and production class w/ the same gun/different calibers. OF COURSE, use this information at your own risk! have fun! probably more info than you need???mike g
  12. I'll pass this along.... I've had /shot EAA guns in competiton for many years. Just picked up a 45 large frame gun. I usually take them apart and polish the internal parts w/ the Dremmel. SO... onto the 10mm... I have a small frame EAA gun in 9mm/ with a 40 S"&W slide /barrel/mags (2 calibers/ one gun). (Used for Limited 10 and production). You might consider this...? you could shoot 40's and 10mm from the same pistol/same mags. Playing/curious, I looked on the "NET and found a site (savvysurivor.com) that has a "conversion 40 S&W barrel for the 10mm gun and an excellent tutorial for the EAA guns. A barrel change appears to be all that is needed? (I CAN put the "stock" small frame 40 S&W barrel in the large frame gun and all appears well)?, maybe this is all he is doing? (I have not shot this combo as I don't have a 10mm slide/mags as yet). (Since I reload, I don't see any problem using a "long" 40 with they 10mm mags, if required)?. I've also used my "old" EAA open pistols to work loads up in 9mm major before I changed barrels on my STI 38S open guns. The springs, recoil/trigger/mag/etc. are availible from Brownells.(also CMPI mag exentions). Break out the Dremmel and have fun.. USE THIS INFORMATION AT YOUR OWN RISK. mike g
  13. No fun too have a gun that doesn't work, no matter your skill level. You and I must be the in the minority of 9mm. "Aftec" problem people? Rad. Prec. Design responded to my post... he hit the nail on the head...Even though the firing pin retainer must be "radiused" my firing pin stop fit was sloppy, letting the extractor move back and forth. Sometime every thing was good but I would eventually have a "fail to extract " (but not with a round fully engaged as is your problem). I put in a hand fitted firing pin stop (EGW) and regular (EGW) extractor. I also use the EGW (Lee) 9mm undersized die. The only problem I have had since the change was when I used a 29 round SPS mag that had not been "tuned" Might be something too check... Hope this info is of some use? He had solutions to various problems of this nature. mike g
  14. Being an "old" shooter, I have one of the 1st. Dillon 650's ever made and an even older 550. I would recomend the Dillon's for LOTs of reasons---but you can't BEAT the NO BULL service!!! (EVEN if you are not the original owner).I do use the EGW(lee).001 under size die in 9mm.,38 Super, and 40 s&w.for the 1st. stage. Ive loaded 1000's & 1000's of rounds. I would say the 550 should be your 1st. choise if you are going to load different calibers. The sq.deal is fine if you are just loading one caliber and have small hands?. mike g
  15. Good info on checking o.d.of the pin. EGW sells/makes great parts, their pin is .200 while lots of others are .198 minor fitting to the barrel feet (file) might be required. BTW, I use EGW's in all my guns, never broke one. You may have some other problem??? mikeg
