    Glock Sights

I have a Glock 34 that I'd like to replace the sights on. I am used to shooting Meprolight sights on a Kimber. I intend to use the Glock for USPSA and 3gun competition. What sights would you recommend for my Glock? Fiber sights seem to be the most popular. I am right handed and left eye dominate. However, being right handed (and often somewhat forced to use my right eye), I feel that while for sure left eye dominate (at least when I do any "test), it's not dominate by much (ie my vision will often kind of bounce and switch back and forth). While I've never shot a pistol with Fiber sights, the few times I have picked up a friends pistol with Fiber sights (at least a front fiber sight), my right eye "picks up" / sees a lot of the side of fiber "thread" on an angle (while the sights are aligned with my left eye). The side and length of the front sight fiber I am able to see with my right eye seems to end up being more distracting than the brightness / benefit of the front fiber sight as viewed head-on with my left eye. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Any ways around it? It seems fiber sights are far and away the most popular for these two games (USPSA and 3gun), but I'm just wondering if they'd be my best bet, or what else you might recommend. Thanks.
  2. I have a Glock 34 I am working on getting set up for 3gun and USPSA. I "grew up" shooting a Kimber 1911, and therefore, despise the trigger on the Glock. I had a glock armorer help me polish some surfaces, make it a little smoother, but I am still not happy with it, mainly the length of travel, reset, etc. What is the best trigger replacement to get my Glock trigger to feel as close as possible to my 1911? I want to keep the gun USPSA and 3gun legal and I want to buy parts and install them (not modify the gun with a DIY home-job with washers from Home Depot). I know JP offers a trigger service. I've also looked at some of the triggers sold by Dawson (which I think come from another website?). What do you recommend? Thanks.
  3. BMT is Basic Military Training. The normal progression for active duty guys is that after BMT, you go to Indoc at Lackland (Medina), then to Dive School in FL. Upon graduating dive school, you PCS to Kirtland. You then attend SERE, Airborne, Freefall, Paramedic, and the Apprentice Course in any order as long as Airborne is before Freefall, and apprentice course is always last. They try to schedule the courses as closely as possible, ususally within a few weeks of each other, sometimes back to back, and at most 2-3 months apart. And as I mentioned before, all NPS (non-prior service) students are E3 from the time they reach Kirtland until they graduate, regardless of how long it takes.
  4. Nobody is trying to discourage you just saying the military isn't gonna foot the bill which was your question. AGREED. Shoot all you want. Become a GM if you have the time and talent. Just don't expect me or anybody else to pay for it. If you can't afford it now then scale back your involvement. I was an E3 once upon a time and I know how much we got paid. That's why it took me 20+ years to get to where I can get out there and enjoy shooting. Sure I make a little more money now, but I still have to work hard to support my hobby. You think it's bad now, wait until you are married 10 years and have three kids and are trying to make it on E6 pay. I was foolish enough to try Trap shooting at that stage of my life and career and guess what? I had to give up on that dream. I even got a weekend gig at the Rod and gun club running the trap and skeet ranges so I could get a discount on the birds and still couldn't afford it. So, in summation, thank you for serving, best of luck with your career, and good luck with your shooting. I didn't ask whether or not it was ethical for military or military support organizations to support me in one form or another. I was merely asking for help, not whether or not I'm entitled to it. But thank you for taking the opportunity to bash and share your $0.02. You made your opinions very clear.
  5. smh. What are you fishing for? He already stated he had a 4-yr degree. That makes him an E-3 once he graduates BMT. In his case it is 28 months TIS for E-4. I'm not sure what Rammer is fishing for either. But yes, I'm at Kirtland and an E3. In fact, all NPS students are E3 until they graduate, regardless of how long they're in the pipeline. You don't get your 3 level until you graduate, and you can't make E4 until you have your 3 level.
  6. I'm just a young kid, trying to find a way into the sport. I'm not trying to "get out of my job", or slack on my responsibilities. In fact, quite the opposite. I'm trying to use my free time to have some fun, and better myself, become better trained and a more valuable member to my team and the Air Force. I found the forum, and thought it'd be a good place to reach out and find means of support to do something that would benefit my career and is fun. We can debate tactics or antics all you'd like, but you're right...despite having a degree in Mechanical Engineering and deciding to enlist to serve our country, I'm just an almost-entirely-worthless E-3 ditch digger... a pawn. I KNOW you have more experience than me, you probably have a lot more money than me, I'd bet you're a better shooter than me, and you've certainly been on this forum a lot longer than me. So I'm not sure what "the new guy did" to warrant the verbal beating, but in most other sports / activities I've participated in, people are pretty welcoming to new comers, particularly when there's a common thread between individuals such as the military. The whole military issue aside, it seems to me you're not very interested in growing the sport, or in assisting those with less means or ability than yourself. I 100% agree that your local 3gun match is not exactly Afghanistan. But I do think some of the skills transfer over, and I don't think there is anything wrong with using USPSA, 3gun, or any other competitive shooting sport, as a means to improve certain elements of your gun handling and marksmanship under some sort of external stressor. It may not be a fox hole, but it's better than nothing. When I deploy, I'll have an M4 and an M9. You're right, I won't have a shotgun slung over my back, or waiting for me in a barrel 10 yards forward of where my helo touches down. My career field is Pararescue. I know what miserable training is. I know that we often operate in 2 man teams, and may not have the luxury of a whole team to lay down cover fire on a mag change. I know that my teammates, and the lives I'm trying to save, might depend on my marksmanship and gun handling. I know that if I can engage moving targets while shooting on the move at a local shooting competition, I'll at least (to some degree) have a better chance of saving my teammates life in a real CQB mission. So I apologize if I've offended you, or upset you, or disappointed you. The way I see it, there's ditch diggers and military pawns that just go about their life, ho-hum, no extra nothing. And then there's the ditch diggers and military pawns that have an "if there's a will there's a way" attitude, that go above and beyond, that take advantage of resources and opportunities afforded them, that aren't satisfied with the bare minimum, and that constantly try to improve in any way they can. I'm just trying to be more like the later than the former. You can disagree with me, but at the end of the day, I'll be the one behind the sights with a dying Joe or Marine at my feet, and I don't want to miss, much less wonder if there was anything I could have done to be better prepared for that moment.
  7. Ok, well what would people recommend in order to get me close? Or as low as I can go and still make it a safe bet? I have been loading 5.6 grains for several years, and from what I'm learning, that's way overkill...but what's reasonable?
  8. I'm getting into USPSA, single stack division, with my Kimber 5" TLE RL / II. I load Berry's plated .45 230 grain round nose double struck bullets with Winchester 231. What's the least amount of powder I can load and still know I'll be getting enough velocity to keep everything legal for USPSA? I don't have a Chrono so I'm counting on all of the BE Forum Gods with all of the experience to help me out and save me the leg work! (and there's a match this weekend and I won't have time to chrono my loads)
  9. I suffered a compression fracture, and have to get a waiver before I can go back on flying status. Surgeon General's office won't accept my application for a waiver until it has been one year from injury. I'd like to go back, and am 95% ready to go back, but they won't let me. I'm no more happy about it than those of you calling BS. Interesting to receive vocal non-support for a military member to improve his marksmanship...this is the last place I expected to receive comments like that. I don't know how it is in the Army, but in the Air Force we don't shoot very much...certainly not enough for me to feel competent. The last thing I want is a team mate next to me getting shot because I fumbled a mag change, or took too long to get sights on target. So in that way, I think shooting 3gun is excellent training...much better than the military provides, and certainly (to me) much more than just a game. I absolutely reload my own ammo...couldn't afford to shoot if I didn't. But still, as an E-3, it's tough. Everyone on here knows 3gun is crazy expensive. Buying the guns, feeding them, all of the accessories it takes, travel, match entry fees...pretty hard to do on $1,900 a month. Sarge, I agree AMU is a recruiting tool 100%. Sure the LE/MIL that come out to shoot 3gun and call it training have fun...but that doesn't mean it's not still training. I don't think training has to be miserable in order for it to be justified training...maybe that's just because I'm not in the Army. I don't know why it irks you that they get free ammo. It irks me that as military members we (or at least I) am not able to go to the range and shoot as much as I want, whenever I want. In fact, there is no range I can even go to...even if I bring my own firearm and ammo...much less having them supply it. Seems kinda silly to me..."You're in the military and you're not allowed to shoot?" "Yes, that's correct." "Well there's a range you can go to on base, right?" "Nope" Fullauto, I don't know what your MOS is, but I'd hope that you'd want every single member of your unit to be a better 3gun shooter than yourself. I know that's something I'd want my tax dollars going to, because I want your buddies to have the best possible chance at saving your life, if it came down to it. Obviously combat mindset plays a huge role, but nonetheless...I don't know about you, but I'd feel pretty good rolling in a convoy with D Horner sitting next to me. To me, it'd be a wonderful thing if half of the military could shoot half as well as he can.
  10. So Jkrisp, you'd recommend doing an ASR on the holster and tek-loks for mag pouches, shot caddies, etc? If you were starting from scratch, what do you think would be the ideal blade tech set up?
  11. Thanks Franco. I just now got 1000 230gr 45's for $123.62 (+shipping) off of powder valley, so I should be set for a little while. After $14 flat rate shipping, it won't be quite as cheap as your $0.133 per round, but still not bad. Thanks for the help...I surely wasn't expecting Powder Valley to have them in stock any time soon! Sometimes its nice to get lucky...

I really want the JP...just wish I could find a way to fund / afford it!
  13. Are you in the military? Into shooting sports? What ways (if any) have you found support, in any form (funding, time off / permissive TDY, sponsorship etc.) for your shooting "hobbies"? Do you know of any military support / outside organizations that have been helpful to you in the world of shooting? Being a military member, both the government and companies / individuals, should, in theory, want you to improve and work on your shooting. I know I want to be able to shoot more quickly and accurately...my life might depend on it some day. Have you found any resources that have been beneficial to you in regards to shooting, competitive shooting, etc.? I'm active duty, and broke my back in a training accident about 6 months ago. I have about 6 months left before I can return to my duties full time, and have been trying to use the little bit of extra free time to improve my shooting skills, participate in competitions, etc. But, being an E-3, money is tight, all of the big 3gun competitions are sold out (I wasn't planning on getting hurt and having the time to go to these comps), and I'm struggling to find ways to advance my competitive shooting. Of course I can go to the range, dry fire at home, etc., but do you have any advice for military resources or military support resources to help push out and challenge myself beyond what I can do for free at home? I know there must be opportunites and resources available, the trick is just finding them...
  14. I replaced the trigger in my Noveske with a Geissele...I've been SUPER happy with it, would absolutely recommend it.
  15. I have a 5" Kimber Custom TLE / RL II that I use for 3gun, IDPA, USPSA, etc. The other day I noticed my recoil spring is starting to get a slight bend / kink in it. Very suttle, but I've heard that can happen over time, and can cause problems? It's the original spring from Kimber. The gun has (I'm guessing) somewhere between 5,000 and 10,000 rounds in it. The gun is 4 or 5 years old. I'm shooting 230 grain round nose berry's plated bullets loaded with 5.6 grains of Winchester 231. Do I need to replace the recoil spring? If so, what's the best spring to replace it with if I'm willing to pay top dollar?
  16. I have a 5" Kimber Custom TLE / RL II that I use for 3gun, IDPA, USPSA, etc. I am thinking about putting an extended mag well on it. If money isn't an issue, what's the best mag well for that gun?
  17. That's pretty cheap, especially for delivered. Do you know if he has any more? Or did you clean him out?
  18. Thanks for all of the help. Steve, that sounds like words of wisdom from experience...I appreciate the sage advice.
  19. If you really want to figure it out, hardware stores sell a thread pitch gauge you could use to measure it with. Contact the gun maufacturer and see what threads come on the gun. Wouldn't be too hard...but probably easier to just wait and see, buy a new tube if you need it (get a Nordic).
  20. Does anyone run this set up? Happen to know if the mounting is compatable? If not, what is your preferred high-end caddie to run with the TMMS?
  21. I shoot 3gun. All of my belt gear is blade tech (2 holsters, 3 double mag pouches, 1 PMAG mag pouch). It's all mounted with ASR on a Galco 1.75" instructor belt. However, I just ordered the Blade-Tech Competition Belt, to set up a dedicated 3gun rig. I'd like to switch all of my belt gear over to the blade tech TMMS. Which attachment method works best with their TMMS and their Competition belt...Tek-Lok, or the Adjustable Sting Ray? Pro's and Con's of each? Or is one hands-down the prefered way to go for a 3gun rig? Also, I assume the Small TMMS is what I'm going to want for my 3gun belt (double mag pouches, caddies, rifle pouches, holsters, etc.)?
  22. What are the differences between the Dawsons and the Arredondos? For 17 rnd 9 mm Glock mags, what do you guys like better? I have 4 mags I've been looking at extensions for...
  23. Blade Tech's are awesome...recommended by Gunsite and Front Sight, used by countless LEO and competitive shooters. They're perfect holsters...no frills, just right. 'Can't beat 'em.
  24. Franco, where did you order them from? How much did you pay?
