    I've heard it both ways.

I have an idea for a primer sensitivity tester, so I can start answering these questions once and for all, but have not yet gotten around to building it.

If anyone doesn’t want to wait around for this tester, you can send them to me and I’ll test each one individually and report back my results.

  2. For about $8 you can drop in a Wolff competition spring pack and call it good. Maybe spend another $20 on a 13-15 lb recoil spring. And, if you should encounter some light strikes you can spend another $8 on a striker spring kit and try the 4.5 lb striker spring, or the 5.0 lb one. For me, normally the 4.0 lb spring that comes in the competition pack works fine.

For very little money you can be very competitive. Oh, wait, I forgot sights. Glock sights suck. Go with a set of Sevigney, Dawson, any of the others out there, or forget about sights and put a red dot on it.

I just picked up a Super 1050 and reloading 9mm. I have about 2k so far cranking by hand and will be automating it with a Mark 7 autodrive. I’ll be processing brass through it first then reloading….. question is anyone got any recommendations on deprime/resize size for the autodrive?

There’s a lot of info in a few lively discussions regarding 2 pass loading on the 1050/1100.  I’m using the FW Arms popper decapper, and added the Dillon sizing die with decapper as a backup, just in case.

Fresh--weeks to months old. There is nothing wrong with the primers. Once the PAL filler was cleaned per video above, it again worked 100%.

glad to hear it. I may have to give that a try with mine. The last batch of primers I recently scored are from 2004. The production dates are going backwards instead of forward.

I had my P365 milled for a Holosun 507k by Maple Leaf Firearms.  I decided to maintain my factory sights so RDS was milled in front of rear sight.  They also Cerakoted the slide.

They did really great work and I would highly recommend them.

Thanks. I shipped my P365 slide off to Maple Leaf this morning. I went with a 407k cut all the way back. I figure the tiny wings on the back of the sight along with the factory front sight should be adequate for short range in the event the dot dies. I also sent my G43 slide off to Battle Werx to mill the same optic in front of the sights.

Try putting a set of calipers on the primer to see if it is out of round. If only one out of three brands is hanging up, my money is on the primer causing it.

I have to agree with Sarge here. I’m using primers from circa 2015, and when filling tubes, I’ll have one get stuck like you mentioned every 4-500 primers. Basically happens 2 or 3 times per box of 1,000. I’m pretty certain it has to be the primers.

It’s one Pal Filler vs 1,000 individual primers. It’s much more likely that one or two of those primers are just a little bit off.

  7. I haven’t shot any yet, but I much prefer the smoother look of the V2 design. I bet the V1 was a non-expanding hollow point anyway so performance should be about the same. Looks to me like an improvement in versatility for competition loading.

  8. I’m looking to get my Sig P365 slide milled for a Holosun HS407k optic.

Has anyone used Jagerwerks or Maple Leaf Fireams for slide milling in the last 6 months or so?  I found a lot of old info but I’d like to hear about more recent experiences.

Im also considering milling the optic all the way back and eliminating the rear sight. This is a carry gun, but I’m hoping the small wings on the back of the 407k will act as a backup rear sight along with the factory front sight in an emergency. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Hoping to take advantage of current Black Friday sales so time is short to make a decision.

    Thanks.

Ive had the gen 5 trigger in my 34.5 since it came out. Took me 10 min to install and has worked fine ever since. Even if I had to spend some time getting it to work, the trigger is on a whole new level and in my mind what will likely keep me from moving on to a shadow 2.

Can you explain what is it about the trigger that makes it better. Now I’m starting to think I need one.

  10. Not sure why I don’t like the Gen4. It’s like the bastard child of my Glocks. At first I wasn’t too crazy about the Gen5 either, but then that ambi-slide stop sucked me in. I’m a lefty.  I don’t normally go to slide lock unless something went wrong because if the extra time it took. Now it barely slows me down at all.

Im also really digging the front slide serrations. With an optic mounted I don’t use the rear serrations anymore.

I've run both a 17 and 34 in CO as well as production.  I prefer the 34 as I shot it for so many years in production.  Sometimes shooting the 17 seems to be better, other times it does not.  Weight-wise they are the same as the cutout on the 34 was - supposedly- made to be the same as the 17 slide in weight.

I've run them back to back when shooting 2x at local clubs and varied which one was first gun and second gun.  I can't give a better answer as I've tried for years to settle.  There is a difference in power factor for sure, so if you are skirting the low end and make pf with the 34, be aware or you could go sub minor in the 17.

    vluc,

Sounds like you're in the same boat as me.  I shot a gen3-34 in Production for the past 15 years and am just now switching to optics.  I put a Brownells milled G34 slide on my frame and that worked ok.  Then got a Gen4-17 which I didn't care for, then got a Gen5-34 which I "think" I like a little better than the Gen3, but I've sheared the MOS screws and am not a fan of MOS design.  So, now I'm hoping to acquire a Gen 5-17 that is not MOS which I will have milled for RMR and will try that.  Since it's strictly for range/competition, I'll probably have it milled all the way back to keep the SRO optic a little further away from the ejection port to keep it a bit cleaner.  I may just look for a Gen5 slide and put it on my G34 frame.

I prefer the 45 myself. Less mass on the slide reciprocating. Of course, you do also have less overall weight which some people don’t like

Not sure if the PF will drop off below or too close to 125 with the 4" barrel and my load.  My current load already spans 126-133 depending on the firearm used.  Besides, I've been shooting a 34 for so many years, the 17 slide already looks like it's oddly too short.  I don't want to go any shorter than that.  I also thought the 45 had a slightly different lower than the standard Gen5 17/34 but don't know for sure.

  13. I'm wondering what the rest of you prefer as a Carry Optics gun.  Since it's going to have a red dot, sight radius isn't an issue.  Whenever I try to compare, I find myself leaning towards preferring the 34 over the 17, but I think that's because my 34s are Gen3 and Gen5 and the 17 is a Gen4, which I don't really like.

So I don't know if I prefer the 34 simply because I like the Gen3 and Gen5 more than the Gen4.  I know I'll probably end up with a Gen5 17 eventually.  So, do you prefer the "feel" of the longer slide on the 34 or the shorter, and possibly faster pointing 17?

Years ago I used them, the cut for my RMR was off… After a few back and forth emails, they opted to replace my OEM slide with one of their pre-cut slides. I’d say this was 4-5 years ago maybe?

For direct milling Ive used Jagerwerks, LM Precision, Battleworx, Delta Stategic, DP custom….All were great. Have used Jagerwerks SEVERAL times.

Thanks, I’ve shifted gears and was leaning towards Jagerwerks or BattleWerx. There was a lot of Internet chatter recently about long lead times at Jager, so at least for this job it will probably be BattleWerx.

I also have to find someone to do my P365.
