  1. my bullets do not have any exposed lead, and i do not even know the brand of the bullet. a friend of mine gave me some 115gr that he got real cheap and they are fmj. LARRY- i have no idea why i am having such a hard time with the HS-6 i dont know why it is coating the lens of my cmore with debris, it is plenty far back enough on the slide and it has a blast shield, so im not sure why. maybe the gun needs to get broken in more or maybe i need to change bullets. I am making a bullet order this week to the Montana Gold 125 gr. I just didnt know if VV would really make that much of a difference in cleanliness. If you do not know my setup just click on my name and it has a picture of where the Cmore sits
  2. thanks alot...what about n330 on that burn rate chart? is that not in the same ballpark. one of the reasons i want to try VV is because my cmore is getting pretty nasty on the lens with hs-6 (i do have a blast shield) and i was told maybe a cleaner powder and a nicer bullet zero or MG would help my cause. im trying to avoid the polution cloud.
  3. i really hate to start a whole new topic for this question but i have searched and cant find the answer. My HS-6 burns a little dirty and ive been told that Vihta is the cleanest burning powder i can use. i am running a 9x19 open gun with a 3 port comp and 4 hybrid ports. i know loads that i make with my hs6 but i dont want to buy VV and then find out i need way more or i dont have enough room in the case for the 8.2-8.6 grains of hs6 that i am using (the 8.6 of hs6 fits i do not know what the VV equivalent will be) I am hesitant to try new powder because i dont want to change all of my load data. eh confusing stuff
  4. i bought the shooters back from competitive edge dynamics and it came with a really nice matching brass bag that clips right onto the shooting bag. thats my vote.
  5. what is throat the feedramp and chamber? i did polish the feedramp but i am not sure about throat, i know i still need some breakin time and im sure that will help it, but as one of you said OAL could also be the problem, im loading to 1.14 and when the bullet got chambered it went in half way, i didnt check the case lip but as soon as i dropped the mag it chambered imediately which leads me to believe that it was hanging up on the feedlip on the mag. so maybe i will try 1.125 or 1.13 or something along those lines, the reason i loaded 1.15 was just because that is what was suggested to me from a fellow open glock shooter. if that is the case where the oal length is too long just shortening it down to 1.125 should potentially solve the problem i guess????? also..how can i use an ismi mag spring because they are only for the high cap magazine that i do have. but shouldnt the mag spring be longer considering im using the 17 rd mag and arredondo +6, would it still work?
  6. the hunter model in comparison is WAY higher, you will notice (i had both to compare) the competition mount will require you to lower the ejection port 1/10 of an inch i had mine done by a gunsmith, cost 40 bucks and had it back in 3 days and it works great. also for the 9mm use a 40 ejector or an extended ejector, so get the competition model, why would you need iron sights on an open gun anyway? no one else does it. you can see on my gun how low the competition model actually sits off the slide (around 1/8") *note i modified mine so the cmore sits further back on the slide i had new mounting holes drilled and tapped on the sled piece with the blast shield.
  7. just took my new open gun to its first ipsc match, gun is glock 34 with kkm barrel 4 hybrid ports and 3 port comp (pictures in gallery) the rounds i was using were 115 gr bullets 8.1 grains of hs6 and a oal of 1.14, i had a 11lb wolff spring and a non captured tungsten guide rod with 17rd mags and arredondo +6 ext. the problem i had was that out of every mag about two of the rounds would jam. it was a match so i didnt have time to fully concentrate on what exactly was happening but what it looked like was the round was feeding half way into the chamber and getting stuck and the instant i would drop the magazine the slide would go into battery and chamber the round just fine. i know its not a huge deal because the gun is brand new with less then 300 rounds through it (which could be part of the problem) i was going to play with loads ideally using a 125 gr montana gold bullet for more pressure and reach major more easily (i got the 115grains for free and they worked so i used them) and i am going to play with spring rates i think. but i just figured one of you may have heard of this problem before and can get me started in the right direction and maybe save me some troubleshooting hassle and time. it did this most importantly in the middle of a classfier causing me to lose some serious time "OUCH" . I love the gun and it has been working great just need to get this minor gliche out of the system. thanks, shawn
  8. right now i am running a 15 lb spring and a tungsten non captured guide rod by brian hawley. i change spring weights alot though depending on new loads that i am using. the comp is titanium and brian hawley advised me on the three vs 4 port comps the reason i went with three is because of the overall length of the glock 34 to begin with and i figured a 4 port comp would just make it obsurdly longer then it had to be. so we went with a great design on the 3 port and to compensate (no pun intended) went with 4 hybrid ports in top of the barrel. you can see more pics of the comp at brians website experimentalmachining.com and yes i am shooting 9major hope some of this helps you out -shawn
  9. it is expensive but not really when you compare it to what some people have in a 1911 which can easily exceed 3grand. the barrel is aftermarket it is a kkm. im kind of lost in your question as to the cmore..you lost me at the recoil spring part. there was no drilling anywhere on the mount. it slides over the rail and is locked in by a piece on the bottom and the other part above the trigger replaces one of the 3 pins that trigger is attached too and the cmore itself is held onto the mount by the two mounting screws that screw into threaded holes in the mount base. i hope that helps...the whole thing probably would have been cheaper had i done it all right the first time..but what fun is that
  10. just a smile experiment, never used one before
  11. my mistake flex, i guess after the 3+ hours i had been staring at what this site had to offer i overlooked it (not sure how) but i did. whoever has the power can delete this topic if need be. must have been tunnel vision
  12. haha.......for a glock, you 1911'ers are coming around you just fear change cost approx $2,000.00 ish from very very beginning to where it is today dont have an exact number that that is a good estimate. still not cheap but not that $2600.00 avg to start STI race gun
  13. it is kind of similiar to carlos' gun, same concepts. mine is a little shorter comp because the gun is long enough as it is, and i have a different mount (same idea) and i do not have the custom deluxe ice magwell hoodadd on my gun. For anyone who cares to see my work space i put my reloading bench is the reloading bench department. it is like on page 7 or something crazy like that. -shawn p.s. thanks for all of the great reviews of the gun i shot it again last night at a little steel match and it is working great so far. as flex says "my gun didnt require financing"
  14. yes i know its clean, and yes i do use it i am just a neat freak
  15. this may be helpful for others and will certainly be helpful for me..i looked all over this forum and tried to find this info but it seems to be scattered..now that i got my appology out of the way for starting another topic here is the question..Does anyone know the best way to do your own glock trigger to get it light, crisp and smooth etc. i know some of the obvious polishing but ive heard about re-drilling the trigger spring hole and stuff like that, can anyone point me and the rest of us rookies in the right direction as a step by step DIY trigger for the glock possibly including parts. I did my trigger myself but really it is only a light connector and polished with overtravel stop, much more room for improvement. thank you in advance, -shawn
  16. DAWSON did the same thing to me, i ordered a fiber front for a heini rear and was told it would be at my house that friday. this was the 11th of that month. friday came and went so when i called them i was told it would be on backorder for two weeks..two weeks came and went and no sights so i called again and was told next week..next week came and went and still no sight, so finally i called them and they said they would make it up and get it out to me..so it should be here today or tomorrow.....moral of the story is that i dont mind waiting just tell me that i have to wait, do not give me the run around every week just give me straight facts or if you have to tell me it will be two months so when it gets here in one then i will be cool with that.
  17. check out my gun in the galery.. it is a glock 34 but has most of the mods you are already talking about and my gun works great. also go to galery and type in THEOCARTER as a member search he has a great glock 17 open gun that also runs flawless and shoots flat
  18. Trey, it is not hardchrome it is beadblasted hardchrome does not stick well to magwells. Took the gun to the range last night.....Shoots awesome better then i thought my main goal was to have it be competitive with the st sv's out there and it absolutely shoots flat i only had time to put about 80 rounds through it so there is alot of breaking in to do with the barrel as well as new hardchrome is very sticky. But for a first run it was awesome now i get to enter the endless battle of loads and spring weights to find what is absolutely the best configuration, so if anyone wants to put in their $.02 let me know -shawn
  19. i am located at camp pendleton ca (san diego area) i am using both sides of the mount, it is modified though so the mount sits all the way to the rear of the slide, it is normally about an inch forward. the slide is stock and modified for two reasons 1. caspian is too lazy to make new ones and 2. the stock slide is longer which i like and is already lightened to be as light as the 17 slide and has the top hole for the hybrid ports. the slide racker is also NHO but it comes straight so i had it modified to the angle you see it at
  20. thank you for mounting my pic SL i am about ten years behind the technology power curve.
  21. this just in....glock 34 from one of our members brian hawley (if you dont know him you should) it is a glock 34 with my own trigger job..soon to be vanek, overtravel stop THE magwell although i think i will change to a NHO like the one on my limited gun a kkm barrel a lightened and hard chromed slide carver mount modified so it sits further towards the rear and a kkm barrel and titanium compensator. i have NO IDEA how to load pictures so here is the link. http://www.experimentalmachining.com/Shawn1.jpg if that doesnt work just go to www.experimentalmachining.com then go to the hawley custom link, then to galery and glocks..or if someone knows how to get this picture on here let me know. just thought id share my love with you
  22. this is all great stuff, so pretty much i will just stick with 9x19 data and pretty much erase 9x21 from my vocabulary because it serves no purpose besides confusing me. looks like i opened quite a can of worms with this topic we have quite a few replies with ALOT of good info, thank you everyone
  23. i know there is a difference between 9x19 and 9x21.. but what is it beside i guess the extra 2mil case length i think i heard. and where does it factor into what im trying to do. the gun i have is as mentioned the glock 34 which from my understanding is 9x19, so is that what i am loading and do i want to stick with the 1.135 oal that was mentioned earlier and the safe 7 grain starting point (as soon as i get rid of these 115grains i will order a bunch of 125' and stick with them) so if anyone can somehow decipher what im trying to say (and i'm not doing a great job at it) so i guess the moral of the story is can someone tell me about 9x19 and 9x21 i know im a pain but the more i learn now the better off i will be for it and then i can school young glocksters like myself in the future when they ask the same things. i guess somewhere along the line i got lost -shawn
  24. the powder that i have now is hs-6 i am using brand new cases and just happen to have 115 grain bullets because of the deal i recieved on them, however will be using 125 for matches. all the data i have is from someone that shoots a similiar open glock with the exception it is a 17 and not a 34. the OAL that i was given and that my press is set to is 1.16. the person who has been showing me a little of the ropes of reloading used 8 grains of powder give or take .2 or so grains but i am starting at 7.5 grains. call me crazy but because of the longer barrel of the glock 34 should i be able to use less powder with more velocity because the bullet will have more time to gain velocity? if i am totally talking useless here because as of now you all are my best reference. p.s. i have a reloading manual and it is the lyman manual as well as i have a vhita vouri manual and a few old magazines that carry some data, i know its not much but im not totally empty handed
  25. thank you for the info. it seems like we all learned something today. for those who are as new to loading as me, they will learn from my potential mistakes. i learned to buy some hs6 and do it right from the beginning. and you all (the people who replied) learned that no matter what just when you think youve heard it all someone like me comes along and lets you say "now thats a (potential) moron" to help you brighten your day......potential because i submitted this post before having the chance to blow something up thanks again, you havent heard the last of me
