  1. I've been a member since 2000 and I think it's great they are soliciting feedback. Random thoughts

    1. .40 is dying in the civilian/LE world. So what? Not relevant to our game or this debate.

    2. There is a place for 9mm minor 2011 with dots already.

    3. Production 15? Meh. Don't think it will revive Production, but certainly won't hurt it.

    4. L10 with a dot? So weird I'd actually shoot it.

  2. If the hit appears oblong AND I didn't call the mike, I'll ask for the RO to take a "closer look."

Not trying to watch the world burn; I just know that humans get in a hurry sometimes.

In 20=ish years I think I've asked for an overlay 1-2 times max.

  3. Cool discussion. Nobody's started arguing yet or being passive aggressive yet!

I think this type of rule is probably the last thing on my shooting to-do list. Gotta load, dryfire, live fire, clean guns, etc.

Then, when/if it does happen in the middle of a stage, I don't think I'd have the clarity of mind to process the "Can I stop myself? Should I stop myself?" While my "brain" is puzzling this out I'm shooting stuff and running around and reloading. At ULSC I'd probably come up with a solution.

If I had just shot an entire stage with no ear pro and an Open gun I'd probably need to sit down for a bit and reflect on my choices in life.

Thanks to this discussion, I'd probably be a better RO because of it in case it happened to someone else.

  4. Having a very(!) hard time getting my battery cover to screw closed on my new Vortex Venom. Spoke to them by phone; they indicated I needed to use a fair amount of force to compress the rubber bushing inside the compartment.

I've tried with pretty significant force with no luck.

    Any suggestions of tips?

  5. 15 year old thread resurrection. Has got to be a record.

There were times in the distant past when it was difficult to find 12# Beretta springs. 1911 mainsprings were a work around for that.

For a long time ,Dave Olhasso was The Guy for Beretta parts. From time to time, he would be out.

Dave's still around, but those springs are much more common.

I don't remember much of a difference in the feel of the trigger, but I wanted something better....even a little better, than the factory set up, but was still reliable.

Both springs worked fine. Given that they cost almost nothing maybe try both particularly if you're dealing with a primer scarcity situation.

  6. There are probably terrabytes of threads on this very topic.

2011 all day long. There's a solid learning curve already present in open.....the last thing you want to do is have to fart around with "why doesn't my gun work."

    No brainer.

  7. All excellent points.

Humans being human, though, I think people struggle with defining reasonableness.

In a different but similar vein, people will comment on how physical a particular stage or match is. The extreme positions are "so you just want a bunch of classifiers" and "USPSA isn't a track meet." Neither extreme is desirable or reasonable. Same concept applies to this discussion.

Tough shots? Great. Tough stages? Hell yeah.

Fiendishly impossible stages that involve a prop that only one particular club uses? Nope.

Any shooter can make pretty much any stage or array hard. The newer guy makes it hard because, well, he's new. The more experienced guy makes it hard because he's going to be more aggressive on an entry or exit.

A very large match in the desert southwest had you shoot 20 yd partials while riding a mining cart. Silly.

Same match had you sitting in a flying saucer and scooting around "flying" the saucer. Silly.

  8. If the "D" still stands for Defensive you should research: "The typical gunfight consists of how many rounds?"

    Hint: It's not 15.

I acknowledge that the Fantasy Camp People like to repel a zombie invasion while standing behind a fault line and wearing a tan vest, and I respect them for their choice.

But, like I said,  Quality of rounds fired at a match is better than Quantity.

Regardless, the very last thing IDPA needs is bigger stages. A high quality 8 round stage is better than a garbage stage with more bullets shot.

  9. Quality of rounds in a stage is better than quantity.

Increasing round counts in IDPA is a horrible idea.

I realize IDPA is Fantasy Tactical Camp for some but the "D" used to stand for something.

  10. It's been approximately 4 months since I had an eye exam and got these glasses. 52 years old.

In the time since, I've shot probably 30 matches and this is the first occurence. I've tried via dryfire and could not re create.

Part of the failure here is my inability to explain what happened.

On reflection I am wondering if having the barrels LEAVE my peripheral vision to the right while I  indexed on targets to my left resulted in my right eye being unable to focus or even pick up the front sight.

I had to move the gun around a good bit to pick up the sights. I could SEE the slide but couldn't find the sights. I believe(?) that I ended up using my left eye to focus on the sights and finish that array.

  11. Still struggling with being old and blind.

I have prescription glasses that I shoot with. Generally, the prescription seems to be correct.

However, today I shot a stage that made me doubt this. Final stage of the day; no vision problems at all.

    Right handed shooter.

Moved left with a stack of barrels on my right. Went to engage an array and could not see my front sight. For a moment I thought maybe it had gotten knocked off the gun. I think I used my left eye and finished the array. RO interference resulted in an offered re-shoot, which I gladly took.

Same exact thing happened on the re-shoot. The array on the right went fine, the array on the left went fine, and then final array (again) was where I couldn't find/focus on the sights.

Would love to hear from fellow glasses wearers on this frustrating experience.
