Edit:
I had a chance to sleep on it, and I think I understand now.
Thanks Gregg.

Is it legal to checker the trigger guard on a revolver in the ESR division?

Congrats Steve! Taking 1st Expert is a hell of an accomplishment!

6" Kurt. No particular reason. $125 bucks on eBay. I believe it is the D50 model.

I love simichrome. Flitz makes a nice product too. I've also used Gun-Brite and had good results.
Depending on how rough the piece you are polishing is to begin with, you'll want something a bit more abrasive to begin wtih. I found a stick of polishing compound made by Ryobi that is sold at Lowe's/Home Depot/Menards. They make a red compound which I believe is more abrasive. The white jeweler's rouge is finer.

Enjoy your new, better ammo!
DougC
Yeah, if better means the problem is hidden, I guess that would be true.
Personally, I like to fix the problem, not put a band aid on it that makes you think things are super duper.
You lost me. What do you mean?

clean and oil it, but do it soon-espeically if you're shooting a 1911 with the bluing all worn off it.

A Chronomeister should be experienced enough with our variety of guns that mis-handling should never happen.
My biggest concern is a chrono guy that unloads with his hand over the ejection port. Other than that, I've never seen anything at the chrono stage that disturbed me.....other than the fact that they are shooting other people's reloads all day long.
-
Let's assume that the chrono officer is also a competitor in match.
While the chrono officer is loading the competitor's gun, the gun slam fires or has a hammer follow malfunction and a round is launched over the berm (or less then 10 feet from the chrono table). Obviously the gun has to be withdrawn by the competitor for being unsafe, but is the chrono officer DQ'd for an AD over the berm (or less than 10 feet from the chrono table)?
Nope
So...it's not a DQ if the chrono officer has an AD and launches one over the berm?

golf umbrella from wally word for around 15 dollar.
I keep a large lawn and leaf garbage bag around. If it rains, my range bag goes in that. I also keep a zip lock baggy around, and that goes over my gun when it starts raining. I have a lightweight raincoat, but it's really hot to wear.
I had the most amazing luck for about 4-5 years, but you're going to get rained on eventually.
-
How do you know the gun is unsafe? How do you know the chrono guy didn't have his finger on the trigger? If he was unsafe enough to have the gun pointed in an unsafe direction (i.e., over the berm), how can you say his other gun handling skills are ok.
-
Just out of curiosity, what happens if the chrono guy is injured if a competitor's ammo is double-charged? Is the competitor liable? How do you know the ammo wasn't switched by accident? If that were the case, would the chrono guy be liable for damage done to the gun? How do you prove it? How many lawyers will it take?
All joking aside, I still can't believe there are people out there willing to work the chrono stage and shoot other people's reloads.

$2,000 dollar fine. Wow! I'll bet she learned her lesson.

1st Gun and help set up - $5
I see a lot of clubs doing this. If you help set up for a match, you pay $5 dollars. Why not let the guys that do all the work shoot for free?
-
Was I wrong to tell him to man up, grow a set, and stop blaming his inefficiencies and procrastination on others?
Nope.
He sounds like a little bitch to me.

It looks like Serpico joined today. Give him some time. We'll just seem arrogant to him with all this talk about how awesome we are....even though it is true.
He's proud of his forum and is recommending a resource to try and help. Let's give the guy a break.
I agree though, the 1911forum isn't my first choice. This is the place to be. The talent on this forum can not be equalled.

I bunch of C and D class shooters in a squad can really bog down a match. It takes them longer to shoot a stage, and it takes even longer to score the stage they just shot.
Edit: I'm getting out of this discussion while I still can.....I hope.
Good luck everybody.

Ken,

I think Jake is right. If people took better care of themselves, it would save a lot of money.
Edit:
I removed the rest of my comments. This topic hits too close to home and I get myself worked up over it. 17 years of school to get to where I am, and I spend so much time trying to figure a way out of the mess I see coming.

I have decided the article I posted violates forum rules. I am therefore deleting it.
If you would like to see a copy of it, please send me your e-mail address.

I think Six has the right attitude and will do just fine.
For now, I think we should stop the thread drift. If you have a burning desire to discuss this further, send me a PM Dan.
-
Do you want to improve your classification or your shoooting?
You cannot really do one without the other
Sure you can Dan. You can practice the classifier over and over again until you get classified at a level you could never compete at. I know all kinds of people that practice classifiers so they can call themselves a "master" or and "expert", but when they get to a match, they get their ass handed to them.

Mike at Candomachinery.com is great. I'd recommend him to anyone.

I'm not sure if this is common knowledge. On Sunday, I ordered federal primers and they arrived today.
The lady that took my order said they just got in a shipment of 340,000 primers. I still didn't believe her....until they arrived.
