I am trying to buy three acres of a rock quarry that is owned by a gentleman I met here locally a few months ago. He leases the land to hunters and is concerned about my shooting and how it will affect the hunters.
For those of you that shoot and hunt, what are your thoughts? If I set up a private pistol range, will I have a detrimental affect on the hunting in the immediate area?
Thanks.

Nice Boz!

I noticed my guide rod head has caused this wear pattern in my frame. I've never seen this before and was wondering how worried I should be about it?

Just make sure they wash their hands when done.
I couldn't agree more. Those kids are going to learn to shoot on that range, and I can't wait for that day to come.

You should talk to Gary Cuttitta (a.k.a. Cheetahs on this forum). His club was under attack by a Golf Club located behind the range. After a lengthy battle all the way to the Michigan Supreme Court, the club lost. The financial burdens were tremendous. If it weren't for the efforts of Gary and Dave Alexander, I believe they would have lost the range. Here is a link to the club: http://www.linwoodbaysportsmans.com/
Gary could provide you with some very valuable insight. It's only a matter of time until you start incurring legal expenses. Be proactive!
I wish you the best.

I can almost see a little shoot house right now,for when it is raining, little window rifle and pistol rest on bench just in side the wondow,,GOOD LUCK,
That's exactly what I was thinking of doing. It would also serve as a place to store things.
With all that material and a dozer you could do multiple bays even!
The owner wants a portion of that crushed limestone. That's the final detail. Fortunately, he has agreed to help me construct berms and has a bulldozer out there already. Plus, the property is quite a bit cheaper than the original piece of land I was looking at. I figure I'm saving 9K on the land and up to 5K(?) in excavation. And this property is a lot closer to my house.

BB, please let me know how this all works out. I'd like to know. Thanks.

It's an SV med flat trigger - light, with very limited pre-travel. If I had a trigger issue, though, wouldn't it have shown up before now? I've got 8-10K rounds through the gun.
The trigger is fine. I think it's time to change your sear spring and probably your firing pin spring. As long as you have 10 thousandths pretravel, you should be fine.
Out of curiosity, do you have a habit of dropping the slide on an empty chamber? And, what weight mainspring do you have in the gun? Having this issue pop up after so many rounds, makes me thing something has worn out.
I love the 1911's, but they sure can be a pain in the azz sometimes.

Has your club set aside money for legal fees?

I agree!
Never had a problem here. This forum is a great place to buy and sell.

I put the y-axis ballscrew in. When I tighten the housing that holds the ballscrew to the saddle, I can hear it grinding and feel it binding.....but only when I'm moving the table towards me. If I lighten up on the tension on the screws, everything moves freely and very smooth. I was very careful to make sure it found its "center". I'm wondering if I should lighten the tension on the bolts that hold the ballscrew on the housing, let it find it's "center" again and retighten??
Any ideas what is wrong?

The priming system on the 650 constantly irritated me. I have a 1050 now, and I love it. It is a fine piece of machinery.
It's time for you to join the club. Real men load with 1050's!

How much pretravel do you have. How much does the trigger weigh? I don't mean trigger pull. I mean, how much does the trigger physically weigh?

I saw these today...

and a Kerry Sticker on top of a No More War (?) sticker such that it read:
NO MORE John Kerry
What ever happened to Erik Warren?
Edit: He's got over 600 posts in the "What I Hate" forum. That's got to be some kind of a record?

Hilarious.

I heard the Addy Girl got smashed up pretty good.

You're probably right Pat. But I'm not missing this opportunity! The berm is already there, and I don't have to cut grass. Plus, I have good access to the road, there is also water and power out there if I ever decide to do something with it.

Well, the deal fell through so I've kept looking. I found a 7 acre property close to my house, but I needed to extend an easement around to the back of the property in order to make things work. I called the owner of the property next to the property I was looking at and he wouldn't do it. But what I did learn is that he owns a 90 acre rock quarry ten minutes from my house, and he has been letting me shoot out there anytime I want. Then I found another property I was planning to buy. Before I made any moves, I called him up and asked if he would consider selling me a few acres of his quarry. He's been thinking about it for two weeks. The he calls me up last night to tell me that he has staked off three acres and is leaning towards selling this property to me.

I hit another road block tonight. Like a nightmare that just won't end, I discovered another problem.
The precision bearing kit that Rockford Ballscrew sold me has four bearings and two sets of spacers. The only problem is I need a total of six bearings and three spacer kits---two for the x-axis and one for the y-axis. I guess I'll call them tomorrow, order two more bearings and wait some more. This is painful!
These two pieces were covered in rust a few hours ago. With a wire brush and a baldor buffer, I was able to get these pieces looking pretty good! I think I'll go over the handles and dials again. Aside form some scratches, they look like new.

The ballscrew is back together, and I have power. It won't be long now.

Do you feel any better after reading everything that has been posted? Perhaps I am misunderstanding some of the previous text, but it is my medical opinion that an accurate diagnosis be made before beginning a treatment plan.
If the engine of your car were not working properly, would you begin replacing parts randomly?
My offer still stands.

I disagree Joe. It is his business when what I'm doing may affect his pocket book. Don't assume he has to sell or needs to sell anything.
You brought up some valid points with regard to the law. That is why I had an attorney research the law. That base has been covered. Thanks.
