  1. Like others, I reload to enable my shooting, primarily. But also like others, if I suddenly became a millionaire, I'd simply upgrade my press and buy reloading components in either larger bulk quantities and continue to reload. I enjoy it, and being rich doesn't mean spending what you don't have to. I would like to be able to reload enough to have a stockpile of loaded ammo, but I cannot seem to get ahead between the combination of shooting often and having little time for reloading since I have a young family. I will also confess that I enjoy reloading because my press is out in the garage next to my beer fridge. Scold me if you must.
  2. I'm down to under two pounds of Power Pistol, which is what I typically use. It's at the point where I'd happily pay the hazmat shipping if I could find a decent powder in stock somewhere. These sites need to learn how to have an option of "just show me what's in stock." There's a gun show in my area next weekend, and if I don't score any powder there, I'll be ordering as much powder as I can from wherever I can find it online, and I'll take whatever is as simple as "good enough" for my 9mm loads. I have plenty of match ammo loaded, but my cheapo lead practice ammo is going fast.
  3. How ironic. I got a notification today about the 85 Combat being stocked after having it on my watch list for a year, so I ordered one.
  4. I imagine it's full of things that can never be found anywhere, such as P-09s, 85 Combats... Sigh
  5. FWIW, every bizarre problem that I've had similar to this has been caused by some sneaky piece of brass or a spent primer hiding in some crevice somewhere. Be extra, extra sure this isn't the case.
  6. Now when I'm at my local place, I will reference this thread when I see they're out of Power Pistol. Thanks y'all. I sometimes take field trips to some places that have a much better inventory, but I want to make sure that I don't have another trip of them having only a few one pound cans of Power Pistol and me not knowing what else to get instead.
  7. Actually, I shouldn't have mentioned the snapping thing, because I have since corrected that. Red herring. Thanks for the suggestions.
  8. When I started reloading, the only powder I could find was Alliant Blue Dot. I found it to be a bit too into jumping out of the cases as they index on my 650. After going through a pound of that, I switched to Alliant Power Pistol. I've since gone through many, many pounds of that and have found it to be very Dillon-friendly, both in consistent dispensing as well as not filling cases too high and being prone to jumping out. But, Power Pistol seems to be hard to come by, and I'm down to my last pound. I need to suck it up and try some other powders and get more load data so that I'm not held hostage by limited inventory. My quest deals specifically only with loading 147gr LTC 9mm. Can anyone offer suggestions on other powders to keep an eye out for when I see the Power Pistol cupboards are bare? Thank you
  9. Interesting, thanks. That explains the threads on the other side.
  10. Wow, all the talk about how insanely painless it is to deal with getting replacement parts is quite accurate. "Hi, my slide cam broke." "OK, I will put a new one in the mail for you today!" That was the most pleasant phone experience that I've had in 38 years.
  11. p.s. I did try to get it from this schematic, but I'm not a hawk. http://www.dillonprecision.com/uimages//650_Pg_52.jpg
  12. Last night the piece in the attached picture broke on my XL650. It's the plastic piece that pushes on a pivoting aluminum ring that drops the next case into guide for position 1. The threads inserted into the plastic came out all mangled. So, I'm going to call Dillon to ask for a new one, but I want to make sure I have my terminology right and get the right thing. Thanks
  13. Hand warmer shooting season will soon be here again.

  14. Hmm, the primer tube filler is a good idea, thanks. I'd be took skeptical to buy it myself, which makes it perfect for Christmas.
  15. I also got a 650 as my first press. The idea of getting a "starter" press to avoid some learning curve just didn't make any sense to me. It took me a while to get dependable ammo, but that turned out to be because the Dillon resizing die for 9mm simply doesn't resize far down enough, and it took me a little while to figure out that was the issue and switch to a Lee die. Thankfully, I had a friend with a few years of reloading with other presses under his belt, so he was helpful in a baseline of specs to use and what not. I knew that I'd be going through a few thousand rounds of 9mm a month, so IMO, my only choices were the 650 or the 1050, willing to accept a little bit of more learning overhead up front.
  16. Hi forum, So, I need some items to put on my Christmas list, and I'd like a few of them to be reloading related. I have the 650, and the things that I aim to put on my list are things that I think I'd like to have, but not enough to buy myself. For example, a machine cover, a toolhead stand, or the tool holder. I've gone through all the Dillon accessories and picked some things, but I'm open to suggestions from other places, things that might almost border on being gimicky but do also offer some value. Any suggestions? Thanks
  17. Dillon sells their small pickup tubes for $7.99 each or $23.95 for four ($6 each). Does anyone know if they offer any other bulk discount greater than packs of four? I'd like to get some number much larger than 4, like 40-50.
  18. My order from 5/15 is also in "finalized" status, whatever that means. Damn these hysterical times!
  19. Much appreciated! I was off work today, so I took a trip to my relatively local shop that sells Dillon parts and was able to get one. I also picked up a shiny new roller handle, since my hands were screaming for one after decapping 3,000 cases last night. But THANKS!
  20. Well, fwiw, I placed the order a week ago and haven't gotten any notifications other than the initial order confirmation. Fortunately, it's not for anything critical, so it's no issue.
  21. Excellent. Thanks for the feedback. 3 days, 10 days, or anything in that range is more than fine.
  22. Hi all, As we all know, it takes a while to get presses, supplies, etc., these days. Does anyone happen to know if, by chance, if these delays apply to less significant orders? Specifically, one of my locator pins for 9mm grew legs and walked away last night, so I want to order some spares. Before doing so, I'm wondering if I'd be better off trying to find one in person at the two local places that sell Dillon products. Waiting a few days for an online order is no problem, but if it's two months, I'd probably at least try locally first. I only don't immediately do that, because "local" is a relative term in this case, each place being more than an hour away. Thanks
  23. This is one of those elegantly brilliant ideas, which also has me angry with myself for not thinking of that. Thanks!
  24. I've loaded about 3,000 rounds of 9mm with my XL650 since getting it a couple months ago, and I've determined that I need a different resizing die. From things I've read online, I'm not alone in this. The issue with the Dillon die, when compared with others, is that it doesn't go down as deep into the case as other dies do. This causes occasional failure to chamber issues when the brass is bulged too much at the head, and this Dillon die cannot correct it. I did get a Lee die and loaded about 500 rounds with that. They all chambered fine, and because of my less than perfect polishing, I was able to clearly see the difference in depth between the Dillon and the Lee. Unfortunately, the Lee die is a bit of a pain, because it's much shorter than the Dillon, leaving about 1/2 a thread for the retaining nut. Ideally, I'd have a die that is as long as the Dillon and also goes as deep as the Lee. Has anyone else with this problem found the ideal die to use? Thanks p.s. Other than this issue, I still have newlywed googly eyes when I step out into my garage to spend time with my press.
  25. Hi all. I got my XL650 a few weeks ago and am happily reloading 9mm. The last kink that I have to work out is that some powder jumps out of the cases when the turret stops at the detent. Is there any way to decrease the "shock" to the system when it hits the detent? Slowing down my arm and very gently moving the lever doesn't change the effect. I believe I've read about trimming down the spring under the ball that sticks into the detent holes. Is this the recommended solution? FWIW, I'm using Blue Dot powder, which is pretty flaky. I wanted to be using Power Pistol, but that's a bit hard to come by these days. Thanks
