Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I have. I use a Spring Precision mount but had the sides milled so they don't extend as far off the slide as they did. Before that when racking the slide the mount would dig into my finger and thumb. I use a Burris FFIII.
  2. I use a Springer Precision carry slide racker on an M&P Ported. I do have a non-ported barrel. I believe I would need to take this racker off for Carry Optics. Correct? Thanks!
  3. I have used both a Burris FFIII and FFII. The FFIII will work but the front sight is barely visible above the RDS when the dot is on target. The lower profile of the FFII makes a big difference in terms of co-witnessing. I am currently using the FFII for that reason although in general I prefer the FFIII because it's easier to change the battery and the intensity is user adjustable. BTW, anyone know if the M&P Ported has made the approved list yet? Some suggested it had been submitted and in the future could be used in Carry Optics with a non-ported barrel.
  4. Good to go. Steel Challenge match this weekend to start.
  5. I started in Bullseye at my college when I was 18. I was away from competition from my 20s through to my mid-50s. I definitely enjoy it more as a senior. I am sure part of it is that I feel like if I can compete and perform at average or better, I am well ahead of most seniors that ride the couch. I feel the same way biking and hiking. When I was young, all those activities were enjoyable but I took them for granted. I wasn't achieving anything that set me apart from other young men.
  6. Practice will help as noted. But I purchased an M&P Ported and find the BUIS eliminates "hunting for dot". Once it is added to the approved list I believe it will be OK for CO if a non-ported barrel is used.
  7. Took deliver on a M&P Ported 5" yesterday. Mounted a Burris FFIII and checked the weight with an empty mag. 1lb. 12.4 oz. That leaves plenty of room for a non-ported barrel that will still make weight. It seems safe to assume that will be a legal option in the near future. Until then, I have my CZ P-01 in the shop getting an action and trigger job.
  8. I shot Bullseye in my early 20s. Got away from competition and gun ownership for many years but returned at 55. I shot my first IDPA and Steel Challenge at 57. I am looking forward to a few good years ahead. I am in good health, can still move the feet, and shoot fairly well although I prefer optics as I have a few vision issues. Good to be part of this group!
  9. I weighed my CZ P-01 with Springer mount, Burris FFIII and empty mag and it makes weight (29.9 oz.) So you don't need a polymer pistol to compete.
  10. I have limited experience in USPSA/IDPA but in Bullseye (one hand) it is very important to relax the thumb to avoid using it as part of your grip. The idea is to use your hand like a vice to squeeze the front and rear straps together - like the jaws of a vice would if the pistol was perpendicular to the jaws. I would think the same idea applies to both thumbs when shooting with both hands. But I'm glad I saw this as in dry firing I have been resting the support hand thumb on the side of the frame.
  11. Thanks Gary. I am banking on the Ported being approved. I already made the purchase. I'll shoot Steel and Open until it is approved for Carry Optics with the barrel swap. I am getting my P-01 ready for Carry Optics now but the BUIS on the Ported M&P makes it easier to find the dot in a hurry.
  12. I have a couple of rules questions. It appears from reading the forums, an M&P Ported 9MM would not be legal in Carry Optics due to the ports. Switching to a non-ported barrel wouldn't help because the Ported model is not on the approved list. Is this correct? My stock CZ P-01 Decocker could be fitted with an RDS and be allowed. The slide on this pistol has a non-factory Robar finish. It looks like it is legal as it doesn't change the texture of the slide. If I have an action job done on the P-01 but no change to the hammer and trigger, I believe I am also fine. I don't believe I can put in a CGW hammer or reach reduction trigger as these are either custom parts or external mods. What about a SS guide rod? Is that a legal mod? It looks like it is from the rules. Thanks for any assistance!
  13. At the 2014 Nationals, there were 203 open shooters. 7 of them shot minor. The highest placing minor shooter was 95th place. Good information. Do you have the breakdowns by caliber?
  14. You could add a KKM or Storm lake barrel to the 9mm gun and run major 9mm through it. Thanks! I still have a lot to learn. I have a Storm Lake ported barrel in my M&P45. So the 9MM match barrels are designed to handle hot loads.
