  1. Now for the "other end of the scale"! No National level shooter, just a beginner. I just got into USPSA a year ago at this time. Being 55 I realized that I could not compete in basketball/softball etc with younger guys and needed a competitive outlet in my graying years. I shot a Glock 34 in Production last Summer and got up to C, almost B, through September. I decided to try Open and bought a used STI. It was tough getting used to the different level in Open shooting and I was a D when I went to the Florida Open, where I was lucky enough to win my class. Between stages I met Bob Londrigan and looked over his pistols. They were so impressive looking that I had to have one! I ordered his Brazos Custom Pro SC Open 5" and received it the second week in April. I have shot 2 classifier matches since I got the gun and, come the June update, I have jumped from D to B in these 2 matches (I even shot 1 "A" classifier the last match). I am so happy with Bob's gun. I now don't have to watch out for/be afraid of mechanical issues when shooting stages. I can concentrate on my shooting and not worry about possibly losing time with FTF/FTE's or whatever. Although, now I don't have any excuses I can fall back upon either! His gun is fantastic, I am now a loyal customer. He will do ALL my gun work from now on.
  2. Without going home to look at the invoice I think the thumbrest was $25 and the thumb protector was about $50-$60 or so. I had a thumbrest on my old one and really liked it. Bob showed me the thumb protector down at the Florida Open and I liked the way it kept my right thumb from contacting the moving slide so I had him add it.
  3. This thing shoots great! Still working on exact load I will use but it looks like between 9.1-9.3 grs of IMR4756 pushing a 125 HAP. The dot is rock steady and followup shots are right on target, hardly any muzzle flip to mention. The things I like best are the absolute 100% reliability of Bob's gun. Pull the trigger and it goes bang every time, just like my Glocks. The workmanship is superior as you can see in the photos. I also like the "additions" I had him make....the slide racker, thumbrest, and left side thumb protector. I also bought mags from him and they have been super reliable. I am SO happy I went with this, it should really help my match/classifier shooting the season.
  4. Well, the wait is over!!!!!!!!!! Picked up my new Brazos Custom Pro SC Open 5" at my FFL today. Got it home and had to go shoot. Let me tell you........this is an absolutely flawless pistol. Beautiful in workmanship, flawless in action, and the most accurate pistol I have ever shot. Bob is "the best" as far as I am concerned, his workmanship is superb. On this one I had him add a slideracker, Arredondo thumbrest, and thumb protector on the left side. I know that everyone has seen photos but just had to post mine too:
  5. Wednesday 4:00pm EST.......... Yippppeeee! Just heard from Brazos that new blaster will be here tomorrow! I'll never get to sleep tonight.
  6. I met Bob L. at the Florida Open and he had some "display" models. I liked the look of this 5" model and he and I went over to the steel plate range and he let me fire a few mags through it. Felt great, looked great, shot great, didn't have to wait a year so..................
  7. Don't mean to be a downer but I was trying to get feedback on my "incoming" Brazos gun from those who own one. It seems this thread has now been turned into one on 38 Super brass.
  8. Dave, I have gotten all my brass from Midway. nhglyn
  9. Sometime towards the end of next week I will get my new Brazos Custom Pro SC Open 5" gun from Bob Londrigan. Ordered with a slightly better grip, slide racker, thumb shield, mags etc. and I love the way he lightens the slide and the TruBor he uses. I ordered it while down at Florida Open and have been climbing the walls waiting ever since. I even have my old one sold and ready to ship to help pay for it. Who out there has one? Do you like it? Tell me some good stuff about it! I'm dying here........
  10. I just got off the phone with a Dillon tech and he told me they ARE coming out with the 550 casefeeder. Will be available in about 6 months, so September.
  11. I need to find a really good gunsmith to do a trigger job on my STI Open gun, here in New England preferably. Can anyone recommend someone? Contact info? Thanks.
  12. Can someone please point me toward a website that shows more than the "basic" disassembly of my STI 2011 Open gun. I need to learn how to take apart and clean the sear/trigger/grip safety etc. etc. areas and the manual does not cover this. Pictures would be great too! Many thanks.
  13. At the Florida Open a GM mentioned that he used IMR4756 powder for his 38 Super because of the volume of gas produced and the way it worked the comp. Does anyone have some load data for this powder? I use 125 HAP bullets and have been shooting at a pf of 171 +/-. Many thanks.
  14. I just picked up my new Kimber Stainless Target II and it is really nice (pics to follow). It has a plain black front sight in the dovetail that I would like to replace with one with a red line. Can anyone tell me who sells them so I can get this done asap. Many thanks.
  15. OK, now I'm puzzled. I have STI 170 mm mag bodies and Limcat +1 basepads (Grams followers and springs) and I can only get 26+1 in the gun (38 Super). I have read on STI website (http://www.stiguns.com/cart/aboutmags.html) that I should be getting 28+1. Only way I can get 28+1 is to add the +3 basepad to the 170 mm, which then makes it 175 mm and illegal. What am I doing wrong here?
  16. I would like to find some shooting glasses that have interchangeable lenses. Want a yellow lens for indoors and low light and also a "sunglass" type lens (polarized) for bright sunny day shooting. Can anyone suggest something and where to buy it? Many thanks.
  17. I am looking into replacing the barrel on my STI Eagle open gun, many rounds through it within a few months. What are the "better" barrels on the market? Are STI Barrels good? Want barrel and S2 type comp and saw this on STI site: http://www.stiguns.com/Merchant2/TruBorS2.jpg Is this a good barrel/comp combination for the money? Other barrel/comp combinations? Pictures? Thanks for any advice.
  18. Just a quick question...... Should I rub a silicon cloth on the inside of my mag tubes? Will that help them feed better? Or, will it attract dirt etc and make things worse? Should I just rub it on the followers? Many thanks.
  19. I decided that my Eagle Open gun needed a makeover. Just got it all done and thought I would share photos. Here is what I had done: 1. Sent gun to EGW who repaired holes in slide left by previous sight installation. They also built up and cut dovetail for installation of slide racker. A really professional company that takes a lot of pride in their work. 2. Sent gun to Tripp-Pattison who matte chromed everything. They do such GREAT work, the finish is beautiful! 3. Had new grip from Jim Shanahan installed. 4. Added Limcat anti-glare shield to C-More. Also, have Limcat brass basepads for my mags on the way. I really like the way it came out, but my wife voted for the old version! Oh well, can't please everyone. More before and after photos can be seen at: http://www.gunsnet.net/album/showgallery.php?cat=3221 Let me know what you think.
  20. Can I get some feedback on how the OAL of a round (38 Super in my case) affects feeding reliability. I fully understand that the simple answer is "whatever works in your gun". I want to know if, generally speaking, shorter is better and, if so, why? I have been loading my 38 Super at 1.255 but have been told by some that they will feed better if OAL is reduced to 1.240. Why would this be? My gun is an STI Open gun and I use STI mags that have been tuned if that makes a difference. I appreciate your information and am learning all the time from the folks here. Many thanks.
  21. Can anyone tell me who makes this mag loader? A friend gave me one and I want to buy a couple more but there are no markings on it except: P.O. 45 on the bottom of it. Can you tell me who sells these? Any links? For double stack STI mags. Many thanks. http://www.gunsnet.net/album/data//3206/7914Mag_Loader.jpg
  22. Today I was browsing the internet and saw something that I wanted to buy.....and now I can't remember where it was. It was a cloth "sleeve" that went over electronic hearing muffs that absorbed sweat and made them more comfortable in hot/cold weather. Does anyone know where I saw these or what they are called? Thanks.
  23. The problems were several: 1. The extractor was too tight causing the casing to rotate too quickly, thereby hitting the side of the ejection port and causing the dents. 2. There was a defect in the original barrel. S+W gave me a new barrel, a new slide, and tuned the extractor properly and everything is right with the world. S+W really does stand behind their product.
  24. I have a new S+W1911 that I just picked up. I fired a few and looked at the casings. There are dents in all of them. See photo here: http://www.gunsnet.net/album/data//3206/79...ted_Casings.jpg The base of the brass on the opposite side of the dent has a small "flattened" area also. Does your 1911 do this? I called S+W, emailed them the photo, and they said it had to do with the ejector and extractor. They were going to talk to the guys in their PC tomorrow morning. I would like to know if this is "normal" before I call them. Should I ask for replacement of the weapon? Will taht cure the problem? Or do all 1911's have this issue to some extent? Can I safely reload these casings? Many thanks for any information you can give me before I call them in the morning.
