    Here is a good calculator:

Suprising, plugging in a 147 gr 9mm at 850 fps, I like the numbers best at a 15 yard zero, assuming a 1.5 inch offset from bore. I would have guessed 25 yards.

For USPSA it is not unusual to see a lot of really tight shots inside of 15 yards so my thinking is biased toward hitting that A zone in the head box or missing the no shoot at 5 - 20 yards.

I've shot Production with a 40S&W and a 9mm. While the 9mm is cheaper to shoot, the 40 seems to be softer (with the correct loads). I would say shoot Production.

The other nice thing is that with 40 minor the steels are going to fall, with 9mm every once in a while you are going to get screwed. That's assuming you are 135 + on the 40 and closer to 130 on the 9.

This might sound bad but I actually like reloading lol

Hitting the reloads slick is fun. Big mags are for people who never learned how to change a tire & think that mens soccer is a sport.

who are the semi-custom builders that you recommend? I keep hearing about Atlas. Are there others that are recommended?

For my money it would be either Brazos or Triangle Shooting sports.

but do most people use the thumb rest on the TSO? Or leave it off?

"Most" is hard to quantify, if you look at limited guns as a whole it seems like most people either do not prefer them or else do not prefer them strongly enough to spend extra to change guns or have them installed.

I did not like it on the TSO, but I did not spend a month trying to get used to it so possibly I could have developed an affection with time.

ps. It really is worth finding a way to get your hands on the guns before spending. With the TSO and Shadow 2 CZ has gone after a broader market (ladies and men with lady hands) but that may not be what works best for you.

  5. TSO - new kid on the block - elevation only adjustable sight - thumb thingy for those who like the thumb thingies - Bling if you keep the orange grip panels - different grip feel than the TS

TS - the real bargain if you do not feel a need for the thumb thingy and particularly if you prefer the feel of the larger grip.

2011 - Nice too, reloads are easier, $3000 gets you a good one ready to run, $2000 & you might be lucky.

The first gun I ever smithed in my life was a Tanfo Lim Pro.... ez pz

If you start with the right advice on parts & don't get one of the Monday morning dimensions guns. I've had one Tanfo & one CZ get honery with me, else smooth sailing also.

Tanfoglios take a lot of work, but IMO and the opinion of most people here. Is the end result is a better trigger. Not to mention it’s actually possible to get a 2/5 lb trigger out of a tanfoglio.

Never heard anyone else say that you could get a better trigger or lighter weight out of a Tanfo, particularly double action. My experience is that Tanfo's are more fiddly to get right but the end result is good on both guns. If you want zero pre-travel (I do not) maybe you could make a case that it is easier to get there with a Tanfo.

I tried the RHT; too loose of a fit.  Now have a BladeTech with the BOSS hanger.  Diggin' it!

    Same reasons & same result.

But; on impulse I bought a single layer RHT just for open carry when I'm mushroom hunting & such. The rht competition holsters I had used were double layer. The single layer is an excellent fit & the tightness adjustments work better with it. The double layers can look the best but functionally the only person who would ever benefit from more material strength than the single is maybe the Incredible Hulk if he had a really nasty hitch in his draw stroke. So that is how I would go if starting from scratch, that is making the assumption that it is easier to produce a consistent fit with 1 layer, could just be a fluke.

It just looks nicer, at a club match it may not matter as much. But at majors I think it's worth going the extra mile to make things presentable. Having all the walls build and painted the same,  no barrels and little things like that can make a match that much nicer. Having each stage have all the same target looks adds to that. I wouldn't say the whole match needs to have the same target, although I wouldn't have a problem with it.

We can't really control what people wear, I don't really notice it much other than the weirdos in kilts.

No worries, you like what you like & I'm sure a lot of folks feel the same way. Any match cosmetics beyond keeping the trash picked up is completely wasted on me.

Just from a OCD standpoint, I think it looks a lot more professional to use all the same targets on a stage.

At least half of the guys I see at matches are wearing multicolored tech wear shirts that probably fit 10 years ago, and pants that might stay up if it wasn't for the weight of the gun and all associated hardware. I think my eyes could tolerate seeing a different target here and there.

But if you want 100% this or that, that is cool.

Not by me, just the rules.  I personally don't care if they are on the same stage and at a couple of club matches I have even seen it happen.  But don't tell anyone their head might explode

Hmmm. The reason I was told that you could not mix targets was that back in the days of flintlocks & stone tablets it created a scoring complication when some of the targets did not have a B zone. Since the B zone is being eliminated from the metric target I wonder if the no mix rule will go away?

The A zone is too small.

    ??

"Honey, do these smaller targets make my butt look big?"

Aiming is fun, and there is no minimum distance on paper.

The complaints I have heard have been along the lines of political correctness being force fed. I think of you told those folks they were not allowed to use turtles then they would flop sides.

Does anyone know approximately how much each click on the Stock 2's factory rear moves the point of impact at 25 yards?  The factory sights (.150"T front?) are perfectly regulated right now, but I have an extra .120T Dawson FO front that I want to install but I'm not sure if it'll be too short.  I'd like to know if I have enough down adjustment on the rear before I bottom out if I do the switch - BEFORE I do the switch (because Tanfo fronts are always so tight, I end up buggering up the factory front trying to remove them and I don't want to potentially mess up the Dawsons installing them if they are going to be too short).

Or if I'm going at this wrong and anyone already knows how many clicks down it takes to make up for a loss of .03" in front sight height, that would be great!

    Thanks!

If it was me, I would crank the rear down as far as possible, shoot some groups, & then use the poi calculator on Dawson's website.

My my gut tells me that .120 will be too short but I am a pessimist.

I'm going away from Dawson sights on my stock 2's and to the overpriced Xtreme fronts, both work but Xtreme built a sight for the gun & Dawson built a sight that can be made to work on the gun.

Slippery slope though. Too many people start “preferring” and next thing you know they will be required.

We are safe, if anybody ever started following any of my preferences hell would freeze over.

    I resent the change!

Missing a 2x3 sliver deserves something better (sounding) than missing lower A zone, which is 12x bigger.

On the other hand I thought of it as the 'probably just lucky they didn't get a Mike' zone.
