Giving this a little bump, because now I want to try it out. Just ordered a lefty Bergara R-14R rifle to get me started.

What are you all using for a picatinny mounted bipod?  I’m skipping the ARCA rail for now. I was looking at the Atlas bipods and noticed some do NOT allow for canting left to right. Why wouldn’t you want the cant feature?  They are a little cheaper, but it seems to me you would want the mobility in a bipod.  Please set me straight.

    Thanks.

The Arca rail is nice. If you aren't sure if you want to run Arca or Pic, you can look at the RRS set up that allows you to attach your bipod to either.

As far as the Atlas Cal (doesn't pan ) vs PSR/BT10 (pans). I believe they all have some degree of cant.  You'll have to get behind them and see which works for you and your intention with the rifle.

I prefer the Cal over the PSR for PRS/NRL stages. With that being said, the Harris bipod is still one of the easiest/cheapest option compared to the Atlas and Cyke-pod. I do enjoy the preload of the Atlas a bit more than the Harris but you can run all the stages without an issue with a Harris.

    Check out this comparison chart:

  2. Like rigger said, you should redevelop your load whenever you change brass, powder, projectiles, etc.

For me, I load my .308 lapua load is at a lower charge weight than my FC and Winchester brass loads.

You can probably go down 5% and and work your way back up or just do another ladder/OCW test. I hope that helps.

  3. I get great accuracy out of MG 124 CMJ's and 121 IFP's. The 121's are for my open gun and are nothing more than a 115 JHP with a drop of lead in the nose. The 124 CMJ's are RN that have no exposed lead compared to the 124 FMJ.

But I have to tell you, for a minor load you can't go wrong with EXTREME plated bullets or even some BBI's. I load the 124 RN EXTREMES in my minor loads now and they are every bit as accurate as the MG's, at 2/3 the cost of MG's? Maybe even less. BBI's are reported to be fantastic bullets as well. I have some but have not loaded them up yet so I can't personally vouch for their performance.

    Sarge,

Did you compare the Xtreme 124 RN with the 124 JHP from Xtreme? I would like to know what people think about those two options. I'm down to my last 1k of MG 124jhp and wouldn't mind trying another brand if it's cheaper.

  4. My 18" 1/7 can't shoot shelf 55gr 5.56 rounds accurately. I can produce extremely tight groups when reloading with Hornady 55gr fmj bullets, however.

Same here. I load my 55gr with 25gr of h335 and it accurate enough for me but the off the shelf stuff shoots up to 2'' groups at 100 yards out of my 18'' wilson barrel.

  5. You are getting good advice. My suggestion is to get a nice drop in trigger before you give up on the Glock. Here is a good guy: http://vanekcustom.com/

    Keith

+1 on the Vanek. I purchased one off a member and put it in my g34 and noticed that the creep and break is much better. Although I have not tried the 25 cent trigger job yet, I cannot compare those two.

  6. I'd start at about 3.8 gr with a COAL of 1.145 +/- 0.005 .. if you have no chrono, then you have no way to guage your power factor, so it's all going to be relative to your own perception. I run that COAL in my Glocks for competition and they work great.

Ditto. I'm new to reloading as well but after going through this forum and asking around, I started my load development with 124gr JHP, 4.0gr of titegroup and loaded 20 rounds at various COAL. I had 1.125, 1.135, 1.145 COAL and found that the 1.13 and 1.14 shot the best out of my g17. Again, this is what I did and but 4.0gr seems like a good weight for the my gun.

I dont know what to do with the next step but maybe work on the powder charge at the COAL of 1.140.

    Good luck.

  7. I've been getting variances too from loading 9mm. 1.133-1.140 with a 124gr.

I'm thinking about ordering one of these:

I considered it as well, but I don't think head movement is an issue as the head will "top out" the same way with every round so it is a non-issue. I believe the OAL issue is largely based on the brass.

You are probably right. I'm still new to reloading and that kit seemed like a easy fix. I'll keep my eyes out a little more to see what others have to say before I buy.
