  1. Doesn't sound my vision is as bad as yours but I had LASIK and left eye dominant. I finally went first to some scotch tape over upper part of left lens of safety glasses. That got rid of all double images and the left eye dominance issues. Then I got a tip from another shooter and ended up having a bifocal lens put in the upper portion of my right lens. I put only a strong enough bifocal in to clear up the sight (e.g., I need a 1.5 for good reading but only put a 1.0 bifocal in as that was enough to clear up the front sight). This allows me to still see full targets out at long distances. I can't see my hits farther out but can call my shots a lot better. If I need to look at the hit a quick tilt up does it. Feel your pain. Good luck. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  2. Looking at acquiring this pistol. Heard rumors about quality of early sig 1911; Serial # starts out GS69... May 17, 2012 on the box. Good to go? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  3. Can someone help clarify if these can be used in USPSA SS competition? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  4. Thanks for all the informative replies. After testing numerous Wolff springs above and below the 16 lbs factory, I settled on a 14 lbs recoil spring. My splits were noticeably faster. Thanks again for the input.
  5. Thanks Jaxshooter, I am anxious to see what I notice between going a little heavier or a little lighter. Curious how you settled on the 14 lbs and if you changed any of the other springs to help tune to your taste?
  6. Thanks Rob. I will give it a shot tomorrow with both.
  7. That's my concern, damage or ok to run the softer spring as it breaks in at major power factor loads.
  8. My Kimber 1911 stock spring is 16 lbs. I have replaced via maintenance with Wolff 16 lbs spring. Run 230 gr rainiers at PF of mid to low 170s. Would like to try softer, 14 lbs Wolff and firmer with a variable 17.5 lbs Wolff just to experiment. Does anyone think the 14 lbs spring could result in any damage or excessive wear running major power factor loads? Thanks in advance.
  9. My SS setup: DAA belt DAA PDR Holster DAA Racer Mag pouches Wilson ETM Combat mags with Dawson no gap base pads Kimber Gold Match II with Dawson no gap ice magwell and dawson fiber optic front
  10. Added extended with button on my1911, see dawson precision for a drilled and tapped, should be easy for you to do. I went back to std after getting 10-8 performance grips with a large thumb groove that is cut in them. Not sure what your 2011 options would be.

  12. I went no gap magwell and got all dawson base pads for my Wilson's and cmc's. fit in USPSA box great and never looked looked back.
  13. When you talk about the SRB holster, are you talking about this one?I'm very interested to hear opinions on this. I've been using a Blackhawk SERPA, but I'd like to get a "real" holster without retention buttons. Are both the Black Ice DOH and the Speed Rig D/OS illegal for production? In case it matters, I'm using (for now) a P226 TacOps in 9mm. I like the little strip right about the checkered front strap too. On my Sigs, I've always had a full piece of tape on the entire frontstrap area, and used the grips to hold down the edges of the tape so it doesn't peel up. it works great. No, I was referring to the "SRB (Sting Ray Belt Holster)IDPA Approved" for Sig P226 X5 All Around and it appears there are few holsters out there for the X5 All Around. It is not dropped and offset as I think that may run afoul of one of the rules (not a holster expert. You might want to consider for your 226 the Double Alpha sells a nice holster that has a lining that keeps the pistol from getting all marked up from the kydex. I use one for my 1911 and love it.
  14. I use and would recommend a Blade Tech. I assume it must be their SRB model as I don't see any others that would work for production.
  15. Where did you order the Hogue grips for the X-5? I can find them for the standard P226 but not the X-5. Thanks. JGus, I was just on the Hogue site and if you look for the P226 and click down you will see they include the x5 All Around as well. You need to select your grip from the P226 options and they tell you at the top (see red *) they will modify for free to fit the x5 all around.
  16. I just picked up a new X5 All Around 9mm to shoot in Production Class. What holsters are you guys using or could recommend?
  17. Although only reloading for last 8 mos, I have tried lots of powders but keep coming back to 231 for: .38, 9mm, & .40. My first .45 reloads will start with 231. Using behind Rainier plated bullets.
  18. Thanks FLSlim. I have checked the set up and for the rounds that did not fit easily in the gauge I would test them in the Sig chamber and have not had to reject a one. Although I did place the order with EGW, your advice did get me wondering if the EGW U-Die would over time cause to much wear on the cases and my solution create or speed up a whole new issue. I wonder if anyone with experience with U-Dies have noticed a reduction in case life? Thanks again.
  19. I can appreciate your Hornady frustration as I fought the LNL AP press for several weeks until I learned all it's little quirks but have it down now.
  20. As of now just target shooting and practicing for USPSA events. At range 2-3 times a week. Have not competed yet but practice with some USPSA guys at a local gun club.
  21. Hi All! I am still relativey new to reloading. Have a Hornady LNL AP press. Been reloading 9mm and .40 S&W and want to start on .45 ACP now. Used all Hornady dies for 9mm then when moved to .40 used Redding deprimer/resizing, Redding precision seater, and Redding taper crimp dies. The 3 redding dies seemed an improvement over the Hornady dies (still use Hornady powder through expander and hornady powder cop dies for the 9mm and .40). With both the 9mm and .40 would always have about 10% that would not fit into my case gage (quarter to eight of an inch of the case wouldn't go in). The cartridge would always still fit easily and fully into my sig barrels. I assume this is the old case bulge issue so have ordered EGW's undersized resizer dies for each caliber. What manufacturer's dies would you recommend for .45 ACP? Thanks in advance.
  22. I started cleaning my brass with the small Hornady unit. Liked it so much I moved up to the large Hornady unit. Very simple, easy to do, and effective for brass and gun parts. And quiet. Some of my methods: Use the brass chemicals for brass only. Don't use the heater per call to Hornady. Extended heat can cause the brass to get brittle over time. Clean in sonic cleaner for 30 minutes. Drain, rinse and dump out on a towel to air dry. Use the gun cleaning chemicals for the gun parts. Preheat to 130 degrees. Clean from 30-60 minutes. I only use sonic cleaner for gun periodically, like before storage, or a few thousand rounds. No issues whatsoever. Brass clean but not shiny. Gun parts clean but now need lubrication. I soak the entire gun in "Dunk It" (minus the grips) for about an hour. Move it around and dry fire them in the dunk it. Then wipe off, let set to drain off extra dunk it then lubricate as normal.
