  1. So someone on my shooting club forums asked if we could do Shotgun/Pistol multigun stages. Quite possibly we could open it up to pistol caliber carbines as well. I have not tried designing stages but I am interested in learning and trying out some recommended stages. The biggest issue is the size constraint of our shooting range. It is a local county police shooting bay. 25 yds tops. We dont do high power due to safety. And we have limited shooting angles. Here is a video of yesterday's shotgun match. Here is July's USPSA pistol match. I am thinking of utilizing the depth of the shooting bays to get more targets per stage. Kinda like the Pistol stages in the video above. The issues I am concerned about are safety and balancing shotgun targets and pistol targets. As you can see in the video, there are concrete paths that run across the range. So we cant do too much low shooting. I am thinking steel must be engaged 25 feet or more with bird shot, for safety or use some clays staged on stands. Then you dump the shotgun and transition to handgun. So with those considerations in mind, can anyone recommend some stage designs that could fit our criteria? thanks Nick
  2. Two questions. Are vertical grips allowed on a shotgun? If the shotgun or rifle is slung, does it break the 180 if you bring it off your back to shoulder and fire it? I assume we are still observing the 180 rule even with an slung empty rifle or shotgun?
  3. Thanks for the generous offer. One of my friends who is going, says he has a HK91 that I can use so I may try to get some trigger time with it and see if it is a viable option to run Heavy Metal. This will be my first 3 Gun match so I am a little nervous. I just want to have fun.
  4. Yeah the pistol speed plates. Thanks. Sorry I dont understand what you mean?
  5. I am thinking about my gear for a 3 gun match in Sept. Tactical Scope is the division I am thinking of entering. It says that double stacked mags must not exceed 140mm. What if I have a magpul speed plate? Not an extension but the loop that helps me pull the mag out? Is that considered in the OAL of the magazine?
  6. I am figuring out my options for the FNH 3 Gun Championship match. I plan to use my KSG (which is pump) and glock 21 (45 acp) which means I am 2 for 3 for Heavy Metal. Could I use 300blk for my rifle? I am not familiar with this caliber and have never shot it. But from my understanding I can use all my AR gear for it. My Lower is marked multi cal so no worries there. I dont have a 7.62/308 rifle otherwise.
  7. Hey Guys, So I'm pretty stuck on using my Kel-Tec Shotgun and a Glock 21 for this match. Which means I am 2 out of the 3 requirements for competing in Heavy Metal. I was going to use my AR in 223 but that will put me in a different division. So I was trying to figure out what is the quickest and cheapest way to compete in heavy metal? I was thinking of a 7.62 but then I realized why not .300 AAC BLK? I could just get an upper, luckily my lower is marked multi caliber. Then i would be able to satisfy the requirements? I plan to use a scope.
  8. Thanks. I have done away with the vert grip. I use a Magpul AFG only as a place holder until Magpul finally releases their XTM handstop kit. The video I posted, you are required to load up to a max of 8 rounds, if you can, in the shotgun. I believe the rules are similar for FNH 3gun. 9 rounds max in the division I plan to participate in.
  9. Wow very interesting. Thanks for sharing this video. I will try this out. I personally prefer to keep my head and eyes up and have a little more attention down range, it doesnt hurt to try this method out. His reloads are pretty smooth. My shells get caught on stuff. But again, I gotta practice more. With regards to heavy metal, I dont have a 7.62 rifle or 308 rifle. Im not overly concerned about my shotgun times. I know I wont place high. but seeing as it will be my first 3gun match, I just plan on having a blast and using the KSG is part of the fun for me.
  10. I like gloves. Gotta keep my pretty hand pretty haha. I just shoot with gloves all the time. I try to keep my reloads practical rather than just for the sake of speed. While it doesn't look like it in the video, I try to keep my head up so I can see down range. I do it with rifle and pistol reloads. So I want to stay consistent. My club's rules are very basic and not very strict. The only real rule was 8 rds in shotgun at the start. When I go to West Virginia I will be tac limited so eotech will be removed. Not a big deal for me. I shot stage 4 first and forgot to turn it on haha. But the KRISS BUIS artwork like a charm. Iwill try a double load but the angle is awkward and the tubes are a little more recessed. Yes MarkCo, it is painful haha but you should see the other shooters they did not fair to well either hehe. But I know my issues. I need more practice.
  11. I havent shot my KSG that much. And it is clearly apparent in this match I was at last Sunday. I borrowed some caddies from my friend to try it with the KSG. This was only my second Shotgun Match ever. So bear with me. Last time I used a dump pouch to hold my shells and I used my club's 1187. Anyway I thought a caddy would help keep the shells oriented the same way and make things easier. I found that grabbing 4 shells to be a bit too much. Due to the recessed opening of the tubes, the shells get in the way of my thumb reaching in and pushing the shell in. Also the selector switch is not something I am used to yet. So it takes me a moment to switch to the other tube. Anyway I plan to use the KSG at the FNH Championship 3gun in Sept. Regardless of my disadvantage, I am having fun shooting this shotgun. Here is the video. Oh something I forgot to add to the video, maximum load is 8 rds in the shotgun at the start. So there are some lengthy moments of my loading and topping off the KSG.
  12. I'm meeting up some friends in Dallas and want to get some range time. Thinking of bringing my new shotgun along as well. Got any recommendations that allow shotgun indoors?
  13. Well I plan to load from caddies after the buzzer. But before the buzzer, I can take my time to "make ready" so loading from a dump pouch could work. I will try it out.
  14. Arent most if not all 3gun matches a cold range? So I think I could have a dump pouch of shells (just enough to fill up my shotgun). That way I start off with 15 rounds (if the 3Gun match allows me to start with a topped off KSG) then I can feed it from the caddies. That would be 39 shells.
  15. I have played in some Action pistol and action shotgun matches. But I dont have all of that gear on at the same time. I only used a dump pouch for my shells. It was not fast at all haha. They were oriented every which way. So during my Pistol matches I have two polymer double mag pouches. I have yet to do any running and gunning with my AR but I will probably just use my eagle chest rig. Or should I get some AR mag shingles or fastmags and then strap some mag pouches to the outside of that? With regards to shell caddies, I plan to borrow my friend's 6rd shell caddies. He has 4 of them. He rocks a saiga and doesnt need the shell caddies. Is that enough? I plan to have two on each side of me. gotta think of real estate. Im not sure what the mimimum amount of shells I will need. Thanks
  16. Haha nah, the xrail is not for me. I was entertaining reloading my keltec shotgun with a speed loader if you wouldn't mind, could you take a picture of your snotty on the floor with the tube rested in the chute. I can then take a rough angle measurement off that. Thanks If you have an IPhone there is a free app. I forget what it was called but if the gun is upside down and you put the iPhone against the chute, it will measure the angle.
  17. Well those are two separate issues. They are working on a winchoke adapter but who knows when that will pop up. Their QC is hit or miss but their customer service has been top notch from what I see.
  18. Hey Jim, I am not in NYC. Thankfully. I am up in Rockland County. Just north of the NJ border. I will send you a PM.
  19. Hey shotgunners, what is the ideal angle for the speed loader to be at with relation to the shotgun? Is it 45 deg? Also I noticed that shotgun speed loaders are 4 rounds per loader. Do they make longer speed loaders? Like 6 or 7 round capacity for 2&3/4 inch shells?
  20. Ok so to preface this post. I am waiting for my Pistol License. I dont know when or if I will get it. So I am thinking what can I do in the meantime? Since I shoot a KRISS Vector at my local Pistol action matches. During the matches I start at low ready and raise the carbine up to my cheek and fire. I would rather simulate a pistol to hone the pistol skills that I lack. I plan to use a blackhawk stealth weapon catch to "holster" the Vector to my side. Here is an example. http://www.patriotoutfitters.com/img/products/11300/11311.jpg Then I got to thinking, why not remove the stock entirely? The KRISS Vector without the stock is 26.5" So it is still legal as a rifle. Couldn't I engage stockless and there by get closer approximation of shooting a pistol while remaining legal in NY? Do you think having a stock less PCC rifle (that is still within the legality as a rifle by definition) would be allowed in multigun matches? I suppose it is at the discretion of the match organizers. This way the benefits of the carbine are negated by not using the stock? It would level the playing field more. Granted PCC competitors should be in their own class. I know for my matches, the guys put me in my own carbine class/divison so I can do whatever I want. Issues have come up with engagement of targets. Such as strong hand and weak hand engagements. As I said before, I treat the matches as an opportunity to practice and learn. I dont normally shoot weak side. So I force myself to at least transition shoulders and shoot the Vector off my left shoulder. I suck at it haha. But I am trying it. The other PCC competitors ignore this and just keep shooting from their strong side. I feel like that is not in good sportsman like manner. Even though im not directly competing with the Pistol shooters, why should I take it easy? Same with required mag changes. In some instances, the PCC shooters would not mag change. But I do. Other things we dont do is having our hands up or having to face away from the targets, rotate and draw. For safety reasons we just face the targets and start from low ready.
  21. I apologize for digging this up, but I rather not start a new topic since this one is already here. I live in NY state. I am waiting for my pistol license. I cant even touch a pistol in NY state. So no chance for me to practice or compete in pistol matches. I was fortunate to find a local club, NWRA-NY, that is open minded. I compete in the Action Pistol matches with my KRISS Vector carbine. For those who are not familiar with the KRISS Vector, it is a 45 acp carbine. I limit my self to prebans and 10 rd mags due to NY law. Also I look at the matches as great practice. The need to reload so often just helps me build up muscle memory. I do have a Preban with 17+ extension to give me a full 30 rounds but I feel like I am cheating myself. I am not really competing against anyone. I have only had two pistol carbine competitors against me. Hi-point 995 in 9mm and a Beretta Storm in 9mm. Both of them were not really into the tactical/competitive mindset. Anyway I have difficulty finding places that allow PCC in their matches. But at least I found one place.
