  1. yes you can..same style mag catch

Hmm. That makes it a bit harder to decide. The P01 is the one that was tested and NATO and all that stuff but there is realy no reason to think that the PCR will be any less reliable. I kind of prefer that profile.

  2. I use Ready Tactical mag pouches. They aren't listed as something he makes but I sent them an email to ask about it and they made me some. I used them in IDPA and USPSA Production.

  3. The P01/P06 and Compact L compact guns you can switch the mag release to right hand side.

You can reverse the mag catch on the P01 FYI.

And things just got more interesting... I like this option much better as I already have some mags that will work... hmmm.

  4. Get a P01

The P07 is an ok pistol but I like the P01 better. A lot of people love them and the omega trigger isn't half bad but also can't be improved much either.

I really like that I can reverse the mag release on the P07. As far as I know there is no way to do so on the P01 or I'd be looking at that. That's a big must for me on any gun from here on out.

I have a P07, and I like it. Well, I really like it because it was a raffle prize from the Florida Open! Anyway, it's been my carry gun since I got it. I'm a big guy and its easy for me to conceal in the winter and spring months, but during the summer it's a little tougher. I use a Crossbread Super Tuck. The gun shoots pretty well. I don't shoot IDPA so can't help you there, and I wouldn't consider it for USPSA, ( i shoot an SP01 in Production ). When I shoot USPSA, I want competition sights, not carry sights. I suppose I could change them, but just never saw the need.

I recently picked up a S&W Bodyguard for summer carry. NIce little gun I can stick in my pocket and run out the door. When the weather gets cooler, I'll switch back to the P07.

i've never held a P01, but looks like a nice shooter. Like I said in the beginning, I won my P07. Not sure I would have purchased it as my carry gun.

Most of my matches I go to I go to because I'm looking to compete but sometimes I'm looking to just have fun, I don't think the P07 would be my primary competition gun but it'd be cool to shoot some matches with it just for the hell of it, to get some practice with it... partly I just like knowing I could shoot it in a match if I wanted to.

  5. I've been thinking about picking up one... looking for opinions. Looking for a carry gun that I might shoot some IDPA and USPSA matches with occasionally. I'm mostly a Glock guy but I started off competing with a CZ, I just told myself I'd never get another gun that I couldn't reverse the mag release on which is they the P-07 is on my radar.

Anyone have any experience with them? Good sight or holster recommendations?

  6. I am kind of looking into adding a magwell to my XDm .40 5.25 to shoot some Limited and 3-Gun and want the Dawson as it attaches to the back-strap and requires no permanent mods to the gun’s frame. Trouble is, they apparently stay out of stock. I decided that the stock magwell was pretty big already, my reloads are not exactly lightning fast, I have not had any reloading issues to date that would have been solved by a larger magwell anyway so I am just going to run stock for now. Even though it kills me not to be able to spend money on gun stuff I am just going to wait.

I hear what you're saying and for the most part I agree with you but I'm of the mind that if I'm allowed to have it in the division I'm shooting then I'm going to have it. Finding a magwell is made harder by the fact that the 45 frame is larger than the 9/40 so Dawson doesn't a mag well for it, The Canyon Creek magwell does not state if it will work with a 45 or if it would be IDPA legal so right now that leaves pistol gear which while cheap doesn't work.

  7. I have a XDm 5.25 in 45 and my goal is to shoot it in IDPA CDP and also USPSA Limited-10 at first and eventually expand into Limited outright with the use of the Canyon Creek 140mm mag extensions, giving me 18 rounds of 45.

The only mag well that will work in IDPA on the 45 XDm frame is the Pistol Gear magwell. This is troubling as I had to return one last summer when I first tried it out as it didn't let magazines drop free at all but as I cannot find another magwell at all so it seems my options are build my own somehow or buy the pistol gear and file away at it until it works.

My question is will the Canyon Creek mag extensions work with the pistol gear mag well? Has anyone tried?

  8. Are you shooting factory or handloads thru it?

I found with that new double recoil spring assembly doesn't like MY minor PF handloads that I ran thru the old Gen3 for years. Was having the same issue with extraction and ejection. You might look at your load or going to a one piece.

Everything is factory ammo, I don't reload. Current stovepipes were with some S&B 115gr FMJ ammo and some Tula 115gr. Some of the previous stovepipes at the 4000 round mark were Speer Lawman 124, 147 and 115gr TMJ.

  9. Does your gun have the 30274 ejector? If not put one in, then get the apex extractor, if your lucky this should cure the btf. Then just routine maintenance should all you need.

I think it does. When it started shitting the bed after 4000 rounds someone told me something similar so I bought one and swapped ejectors. I'll try the apex extractor too.

    Should I replace springs too?

  10. I have a 4th gen Glock 17 that just pushed 6000 rounds. About 4000 rounds in I started getting some stovepipes and brass was ejecting right back into my hat so I swapped ejector, extractor and RSA, it was good after that. Well I just did a detail cleaning on the gun and put 320 more rounds through it this weekend at a bowling pin and USPSA match and I've had two more stovepipes and watching my hat cam footage I'm noticing the occasional bit of brass pinging my camera so I'm wondering what is the replacement interval on the other springs in the gun? Am I over due? Is there another problem?

Note: Other than different trigger connector and new sights the gun is stock.

  11. The Canyon Creek base pad kit will get the capacity up to 18+1, they also have a mag well for the .45 frame.

    Rich

Hmm interesting. Researching now. Is the Canyon Creek mag well IDPA legal? Will it fit in the box?

Will the Canyon Creek mag extensions work with the Pistol Gear mag well?

  12. I have a XDm comp in 45 and my plan is to shoot it in IDPA CDP and eventually in USPSA Limited-10

My thought process was that CDP is the only div in IDPA that requires a 45 so that's a no brainer. You can also shoot it in ESP though and the only difference will be loading 2 extra rounds in a mag.

And as fantastic as it is that the 45 XDs hold 13 rounds the extended base plates only add 3 which puts it at 16+1 which isn't really competitive in Limited. You get no advantage for shooting 45 in Production, so to me Limited 10 makes the most sense, the mag thing isn't a problem and you get major scoring. If you can shoot the 45 faster than you can shoot the 9mm then this is really a no brainer for you.

The only down side to the 45 is finding a magwell that is IDPA legal that works. Watch BigDawgBeav's videos to see what I mean.

  13. Sounds familiar. I found my mags doing the same thing. If you look at where the base plate is at the rear when inserted its probably rubbing the mag well. I took a file and rounded the rear corners of my baseplates just so, and no more sticking mags.

    Here's what I found...

empty mag + close slide = drop free

empty mag + slide lock = drop free

loaded mag + closed slide = drop free

loaded mag + slide lock = no drop (unless 7+ rounds in the mag and the weight takes over)

Is that sound about right? Maybe it really is the basepad and even 1 round starts to compress the spring and therefore changing the profile of the basepad ever so slightly...

Might have to do some filing tonight and see if that works.

BTW: here's the video of the PistolGear magwell. They made this custom for me.

I actually just watched your video. I had a pistol grear magwell on my 45 and I had similar problems which I personally found to be unacceptable so I returned it.

I wish someone else made a magwell for the 45. You would think in this modern age of CNC machined parts it would be easy to do.

  14. I have a RMR with a green 12.9MOA triangle. It's fantastic on a rifle and I'd venture it'd be fantastic on a pistol but full disclosure I haven't tried it on a pistol yet.

The large size means it is very easy to pick up compared to a smaller dot. I like the triangle shape because if I'm doing close in shooting if I just get the green on target and I know I'll make a shot on the target but if I need to make a further shot I have the sharp tip of the triangle to do that. It's about the best compromise between large and small dots that I can find.

Edited to add pic of my RMR green triangle

  15. I do stuff like that alll the time.

"It makes more sense to go to Target, then Giant, then etc" because it requires less left turns.

Or when I get home from work, "Take the trash in, get mail, start washing machine, preheat oven, then get in shower.

I over analyze everything and try to figure out the optimum way to do it. In defense of USPSA I was that way before I was in USPSA; I think it's part of why I'm drawn to USPSA to begin with and why I prefer it over IDPA.

  16. I've got an old 586 that's been hard chromed. I never liked the red ramp, so I've always used sight black or model airplane paint to blacken the front sight. Currently I've painted the entire sight blade black which looks crappy but is effective. I'll have to try one of the cast in sight insert replacements-I really don't want to do any more machining on the gun now that it's been plated. I've got a Weigand rear blade on the stock S&W sight with a .140 notch, and I love it!!!

Did you install the rear sight yourself or did you take it to a gunsmith? Their website says gunsmith but unless it requires some tool I'm unware of I don't know what the big deal is.

  17. I found someone semi local to install the Weigand front sight thing. Any experience on the Weigand rear sights? Should I use those or go with something else?

I'd like to mimick the Warren sights on my Glock as closely as I can to tell the truth.

  18. After you get it to where you can mount an aftermarket sight. I have an SDM fiber sight on my 686 and I like it. :)http://www.sdmfabricating.com/Super_Sights.html

Will that system work with the Wiegand combat replacement?

Really like the Weigand .140 rear and SDM front. Nice clear sight picture. The three ozs of weight on the gun you have now helps recoil. Did some testing with a friend splits were quicker with the standard 686 vs 686SSR.

Honestly even if it didn't I like the look of that better anyway. Plus the hassle of trading it and then waiting (Man the back-log in Maryland right now is ridiculous) so trading it for a 686SSR was never going to be an option for me.
