  1. 4x4s will get expensive real fast at matches compared to 2x4s.

As far as being illegal, where in the SCSA rule book does it mention the plates being on hooks or any part of the target hanger being exposed as being illegal? I would agree that hooks are exposed hangers would not be optimum, but it isn't currently illegal for SCSA

Appendix E 1 shows pics of every stage and none show a handle sticking out. It calls the sizes out as 10" plate, 12" plate and 18 x 24 rectangles. None of those dimensions allow for a hanging handle enlarging the plate. How do you call an edge hit then at the top of the plate, or do you just use it all........to many problems!!!

Appendix E2 says "All round targets, except for the Pendulum are 5high to the top of the target and all rectangles are 56to the top of the target. Pendulum has two round targets that are 6’ to the top of the target."

Notice that both shapes say nothing about a hanger sticking out it says round or rectangle. So yes those targets are not legal in Steel challenge

I do believe that the targets and stage layouts should be defined more clearly......I.E. stage layouts at some matches have the targets horizontal to the shooters box where at other matches all targets face the shooter. The later is the safest way to set the targets allowing the bullet the best chance at impacting a perpendicular surface and being destroyed. When targets are not perpendicular to the shooter it allows for a greater chance of ricochets into adjoining bays.

  2. I would think RFRO peak times would be a bit lower, Since most shooters are closer to their RFPO scores with it than their RFPI times. I'm sure with time and more data it will be easier to reset these peak times. Maybe annually?

I see that we are using all 8 stages or as many of them as you may have shot for classification now. I didn't notice that at first.....

  3. I would train on 5 to go. It is a tough stage to shoot consistently well. It will teach you target acquisition and when to slow don't enough to insure the hit....i.e targets 3 & 4. The only harder stage would be pendulum.

  4. reducing the distances on speed option and Outer limits would really help move matches along the time it takes to repaint them is a lot longer. It would stop the usual bottleneck at Outer limits and would allow clubs with out the longer ranges to be able to shoot them.

  5. As Far as open class holsters are concerned for scsa. The way the rules are currently written All of the other categories refer to specific appendix except open. It does specifically say in the vicinity of the waist.(Without reference to anything else) So The way the rules are currently written his holster is fine. Now the hands above the shoulders is just wrong and the RO's should have warned then penalized him.

  6. Thanks to all for the info on all of the matches.

Scott I thought I heard it was going to change this year to a SCSA match every month. It will be a good thing for the shooters that are serious about competing. Down here there aren't any outlaw steel matches that I have heard of. The clubs shoot 1 or 2 steel matches each month. There is a lot of Idpa and USPSA matches also. They even hold 5 GSSF matches down here and get over 500 entries at each and I heard that 2 of the matches push well over 800.

  7. ......Right now in SCSA rules .....the open category holster requirements are very different from open USPSA. This should not be changed as this is open class in a sport that is really the drag racing of practical shooting. some things should be left alone but some of the old rules should be brought back......the ones that were just wiped away 4 or 5 years ago....

How are they very different from USPSA rules? I would have to go searching for the differences but if you know them off the top of your head please post them.

Also what rules should be brought back? I've only been in the game for a couple of years so I don't know what rules we had 4 - 5 years ago that we need again.

BTW I saw your post about matches down in FL - will you be shooting the FL State Championship in July?

in Open there are none of the measurement restrictions....all it says basically is in the vicinity of the waist. I remember a picture ( in Front sight) of a Japanese fellow shooting the world championships a few years ago where his gun was 6 or 8" in front of him and pointing down range. Its a race class it should be allowed to be truly open.

Zack where and when is the Fl state championships. We'll be there.

  9. Nah 1000+ miles to shoot outlaw steel ??? There are so many SCSA matches down here...I have a match every weekend, 2 on some and some days ya have to choose between matches. They shoot midweeks mini matches at a lot of the clubs.

We are shooting an 8 stage match this sat. at SFPS.

This is part of the reason we moved to Florida.

Maybe back next year for the East Coast Championship. Ill see some of you next year at the US Nationals @ VCGC.

The steel league sounds like it has become a victim of its own success.....way to many shooters for one day.

  10. Target failure. In club matches I have seen shooters get a string re-shoot in case of a gun failure, but I don't necessarily agree since gun failures are entirely within a competitors control.

A lengthy stoppage, let's say due to a (hopefully) non-gun related injury on the range might warrant consideration of a stage re-shoot, but it wouldn't matter to me one way or the other.

In The case of a gun failure you don't get a re-shoot of that string. You can remove the gun from the line to repair and return or exchange the gun as per the rules. You get to finish unfired strings but on the string that you started but couldn't finish...you get whatever time you scored. Once you start the run you eat it. That means in centerfire the run begins at the point you touch the gun and in rimfire at the moment you move the gun.

  11. Much of this is already covered in rules...like no handling of a gun until given the make ready command or at a safe table. There is no need to repeat these things in another rule.

The direction of the muzzle ( of an uncased gun) can be up or down as long as it is kept vertical and the action is flagged.

It is best to keep the rules short and simple and don't repeat them. Differences in wording just complicates things.

  12. Oil is not just oil, They definitely are not all the same. Weapons shield CLP is the only lube I have ever used that stays in place even after the liquid portion is wiped away through use. I also started testing His products from Steel Shield. The spray shield is excellent as is the grease. I have been using them on 100 and 300 ton Hydraulic presses. One press had no grease fittings on the sliding bushings so I use the spray shield. It leaves a thin layer that doesn't seem to ever go away. and on the grease able bushings his grease does the same thing. I have never used an oil or grease that works as well. The ABF that George has in his products works. Iv'e compared his Strike Shield to other break free type products and damned if it didn't beat what I thought was the best. It creeps into rusted places faster and releases corroded parts. I have been using a product called Free for more than 10 years and Strike shield is better. I haven't had good luck with the solvent but his lubricants are better than anything else I have tried.

I am a machinery mechanic and electrician. I have worked with a lot of different lubricants in my job. I know his products work so well that I only use his lubricants in my company. I am not sponsored by Weapons Shield but I support George and his products because it does what he says, and better than anything I have tried yet.

You can believe whatever you want, but just because you believe something 100% doesn't make it true.
