Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Yeah, that. Adds character.
  2. This does happen occasionally, but there are no exceptions in the rule for it. If somebody starts to blame the bucket for their DQ, they should have taken a little more care dumping the weapon. There's always time on every stage for safety.
  3. My one complaint about his scope is that the size of the center dot is pretty large. If the stage designer decided to put small targets out at 100 yards, the dot would completely cover it. I used to use this scope for HM optics on my M1A. I had it sighted in so that the POI at 100 yards was right at the top of the center dot. 200 yards was then right about the bottom. Then the dots from there worked out to be around 300, 400, etc. The lower dots weren't quite perfect, but I felt it was good enough to get hits at those ranges. This allowed much better accuracy up close. I don't know if the ballistics would work for a similar setup with 5.56, but might be a thought.
  4. I got a chance to shoot the regular FNS a while back.I was not very impressed. This was mostly due to the stock trigger (gritty and tough, even for a stock striker fire gun), and the sights (POI was low, landing behind the dot on the front sight). The sights on the competition model look like they're much improved over the old 3-dot sights. If FN actually sells the gun with a good trigger from the factory, I can see this becoming pretty popular. It's a pretty tough market they're trying to break into, though. It will be interesting to see where this goes.
  5. I talked to Troy at Triple Crown and ordered just what I wanted. I'm getting a kydex holster with the drop and offset, and he's putting a techlock on it. All for a very reasonable price. I'll let everyone know how it turns out once I get it in about 3 weeks or so.
  6. If there's any division that could use some kind of a boost, it's HM for sure. Winning matches is great and all, but it's somewhat less great when you only had to beat one other shooter. Limited is fairly popular at our local matches, but our absolute max range is 100 yards on one stage. I think having closer targets takes away some of the fears people have about shooting the match without optics.
  7. I'd like to throw out an entirely different idea for a new division that I've been wanting to see for a while: One that would allow lasers and weapon-mounted lights. Practical shooting competition has a history of being somewhat of a proving ground for what works and what doesn't. Well, these things have been around for quite a while now and some people really swear by them. I'd kind of like to see how they do relative to others. I know they wouldn't exactly be in their element during the day when most matches are shot, but I still reckon we should let them try, even if it had to be their own division. Also, I have to agree with those opposed to a rimfire division. In other shooting sports, great. But USPSA is supposed to be about speed, power, and accuracy in roughly equal measures. I think a .22 division would make make it not-at-all about power.
  8. I use 3.8gr of clays with Bayou 230gr and get about the same results. This has been my absolute favorite load for competition use. People shoot that out of my 1911 and they almost can't believe it's a 45. To me, it shoots softer than a lot of the 40's I've tried out of other guns.
  9. well, I seem to be striking out with those options. Bladetech has stopped taking custom orders due to such a big backlog, kytac won't pick up the phone, and center of mass said they make one for a para p16 that might work. I don't think a holster made for the p16 (rounded trigger guard) would work for the caspian frame (square trigger guard). So how's this idea sound: Order a bladetech for the STI Eagle (since it has a square trigger guard, even though the trigger guard is much larger than the caspian) and just heat it up and reform the trigger guard area to my gun. It seems like a good enough idea to me, but I thought I'd see what you folks thought before I go melting holsters.
  10. I called comp-tac this afternoon and they said they don't make anything that would fit and don't do custom orders for less than 50 pieces. I'll try bladetech tomorrow, just because I really like my other bladetech, and if they can't do it i'll try center of mass and ky tac. Thanks for the input.
  11. I wanted to drag this one up from way back and ask... Has anyone actually tried either the bladtech or comptac with the Caspian high cap frame? Any other options for kydex holster for the caspian hi cap?
  12. Some drunk guy built an AK using an old shovel for the receiver. Funniest thing I've read in a while. Especially once you see the group he shot with it. http://www.northeast...tsunami-warning
  13. Yeah, that. The weak hand reload Bryan described is by far the best way to go, IMO. The biggest difference in reloading between the HM shooter and the rest is that most folks shooting AR's will rarely have to reload on the clock. Us HM shooters will run dry on a lot more of the stages.
  14. I've always been intrigued by the connection between music and shooting and I think this topic is fascinating. The effects of various types of music on intellectual pursuits has been fairly well studied, but I'd LOVE to see some actual research on the same principals applied to shooting. I definitely feel that there are many principals shared between learning/practicing shooting and learning/practicing a musical instrument. I wonder, atomicbrh, do you play any instruments yourself? I play a little blues harp and just learning banjo, but whenever I hear a song with those instruments especially I get almost the same feeling as if I was playing it myself. Almost like how visualizing shooting a stage can sort of be practice for actually doing it. I wonder if making music is perhaps a way to 'exercise' that 'muscle'.
