  1. I haven't tried it, but the barrel alone is 79.5 ounces. :surprise:

I'm a very happy AeroPrecision customer for other items and will very likely make their receivers the basis for a future large-frame AR, but goodness gracious that barrel seems too heavy for my taste. The 22" Criterion seems more my speed. Or something else like that profile and weight.

  2. I wish my finances would be able to support this. I'm in a long running financial challenge that will take months to resolve, if at all. All of this is on hold for now.

I would love to have a JP LRP-07 with two separate uppers (308 and 6.5 Creedmoor). Don't think that will happen even *after* I get the money side of my life repaired.

  3. SGammo.com has never failed me or my friend that I referred there. Whether it was a detailed question about when particular handgun defense ammo was manufactured to make up of a particular round of ammunition, they are a great shop. I'm simply a satisfied customer over the past few years.

  4. I use a Criterion Hybrid profile that is just fine. If I were to make a new 18" upper, I might be temped to go Faxon Gunner. If I were to do a 16" I'd be all over the Stretch 16. So, those are my two votes.

I'm saving my pennies for a 308 AR with a Stretch 16. Now THAT will be epic.

  5. I've seen several times people referring to stones the action bars. Me being a pump gun noob, is there any info out there on exactly how to take the SG apart and what areas to be focused on? My supernova is still very new to me and I have not really spent much time to learn about it yet internally. I've just been focused on trying to get some time behind the trigger to get used to it.

    Thanks.

Surprisingly, Issue 23 (current news stand edition) of Recoil Magazine has a detailed piece on making a SuperNova ready for 3-gun. They have detailed photos and discussions of the action bars, etc. I was surprised to see the article and decided to get it to guide me as I modify my own SuperNova. I don't mean to advertise for a periodical or anything, but it did seem like a helpful article relevant to this discussion.

  6. When considering larger frame ARs for 308 and similar calibers, the 3-gun focused recommendation has always been to go for lower reciprocating mass internals to reduce recoil and disturbance from the carrier moving. OK, got that. Makes perfect sense and if I shoot Heavy Metal that's absolutely the way I will go. However, in other places (not around BE.com) I have seen people discuss using full mass carriers to help with long range precision AR work. They make comments about trying to extend lock up while shooting. I wasn't clear if it was for accuracy or trying to work the brass less. These aren't fast double taps like in close range 3-gun but instead single long range precision shots.

Is there any merit to using a full-mass carrier for a large frame AR upper dedicated to precision shooting? Seems like the recoil would be more pronounced. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

  7. Enjoying the extra push of my 308. Waiting on some 155gr. from Freedom Munitions to shoot next to some surplus to see how it groups. Enjoying the 45 and pump 12ga shotgun also but my load 2 with the Winchester has been a disaster so far.

Yay for big bullets! The shotgun loading has been a big turn-off for me, but some other things may conspire to push me over into HM myself. I'm very glad that you are enjoying most things, so far.

  8. I would do it. I love shooting HM, but it's all but dead on the east coast. I believe I am the only Heavy Irons shooter signed up for the Tarheel Bushmaster match. There are a few in HMO, but that class doesn't interst me. If they would make it pump and 45 I would try it, but 9mm and semiauto doesn't seem heavy to me. We had 5 or 6 the first year I shot it.

9mm with a semi shotgun just kills the concept to me. I dislike that. Much prefer the He-Man Nationals rule set. The pistol (10 round max 45) and shotgun (pump gun) rules are the same for both types of HM rifle (1x/Irons or Mag optics). Otherwise, yeah....what's so "Heavy" about it?

  9. Yes Bryan, all paper scored .5 sec per point down and percentage on each stage. New rules and scoring go in affect next monthly match in March.

Damon, your location is fantastic and any of your events there have been great. Always fond memories. I wish you and your participants all the best in 2016.

I like the philosophy of rewarding accuracy. I'll suffer for a while, but it will force me to be a better shooter.

Do you know when we should see the complete rule set for the March match (and beyond?. Thank you.

  10. From a scoring perspective, I wonder if it would be a good idea to let someone shooting an M1 Garand only have to engage the paper targets once instead of twice. It *is* a .30-06 after all. I don't have great affection for the 1911 pistols but I have been in love with the M1 for decades. I will get one someday. If we had a match somewhere that would let us run them even once a year, I'd pony up the money for a 1911 single stack and do WW2 3-gun with them both. I was just boring my wife talking about period-specific multi-gun concepts last night!!

Your rifle control looked very good to me. The <ping> always makes me smile.

  11. Got mine installed about a week ago and shot it today. It was a very soft shooting combination of parts (Stretch barrel, JP LMOS, JPSCS with 80% spring), but I can't take full advantage because I can't use a comp/brake. I can't imagine how little sight movement there would be with a well designed brake on there.

I'm assuming you live in a state that has some sort of restrictions? Where would that be? I thought flash hiders were the big issue in places like CA and the like, not muzzle brakes.

Nope, I live in Texas so there's no restriction. I'm on a tac team and need a device that directs as much of the blast and concussion forward. I could put one on if I wanted to but don't want the guy shooting next to me to be hindered in any way. I swear some of those brakes have rattled some of my fillings loose having to shoot so close to them.

OK, I follow yuou. Yes, so many brakes are so awful on sound.

  13. Sweet rifles. Thank you. I wasn't sure if you had a 16" or had gone even shorter as a 14.5" on your CTR-02.

Once again, thank you for the video. Very helpful! If I stay in Open I will get the same Jpoint for my M&P CORE. I have to see if I am forced to move to California for employment or not. CA hates my 1919 so I'd do something else.

Also, thanks for the response about the team rifles. I was very glad to see JP's earlier announcement of their sponsorship for your team. B)
