    Unburned powder

    I was testing my new 9major topend and seeing how much gas was being expelled forward (with the bullet) rather than upwards by the popple holes and compensator.

     

    I was shooting a heavily pasted target at 6 inches and seeing how many pasters would fly off :).6415bfd3779f45d5a083ca46dafca4d7.jpg

     

    This is my current configuration, shooting 121 MG under 9.2gr of 3N38 @ 1.170.

     

    Anyway, I notice not a lot of disturbance in the pasters (good) but did notice unburned powder on them.

     

    Is there any change I can do to have 100% powder burn?

    Cleaning causes crown damage?

    I have an Infinity Limited gun I bought in 1998. It has a Shuemann 40 S&W barrel and probably 110,000 rounds through it. I have never cleaned the barrel, I clean the chamber and that’s it. All bullets were FMJ or plated.

    The barrel is mirror clean and groups very well. I see no purpose for bore snakes or guide rods....or solvent.

    The chamber gets clean with Acetone and a copper brush.

    "Graduating" to an open gun?

    I found that despite being cross dominant, with a red dot I don't have any focusing issues.  In fact, I do not shoot a dot gun as cross-dominant.  I am right handed and I can index with my right eye while using my open gun.  This is not what I expected, but this is what my mind feels comfortable with.  What I have also found is that I can also shoot a dot gun as cross dominant, too.  This has come in handy for weak handed shooting.  I don't know yet if it is a competitive advantage, but it can't hurt.”

    Switching from 38SC to 9Major reloading question

    Just a suggestion.  I load ammo with 3n38 very long.  No issues with ammo growing.  If you're chamber has enough freebore, that might be another option to consider.

    How long, do you mind sharing your recipe?

    I will be shooting a 5 inch Infinity Hybrid barrel with (probably, to be determined) 2 holes and a Cheely Titanium 4 ports compensator.

    Sooo I am switching to 9 Major, I will be using MG 121 JHP and 3N38 because I am a hoarder and have a lot of it. I know is a pita to load 9.5gr of 3N38 in a 9 mm case and is a compressed load (don’t care) . Question: do I need to use an undersize die in station 1 of my RL1050 to avoid the rounds from “growing “ over time? I am using the zip tie hack and the rotating locator buttons to eliminate powder spillage.

    115? 124? 147? JHP?

    Hello, I've settled on JHP 121 gr. several years ago.  To me, they seem to fit nicely in the middle, between the 115 and 124 with the JHP design being very accurate and the cleanest for the comps.
