I have an RL 1050 (1999) and wanted to load 308, therefore I bought a 650, after one week I realized how spoiled I was with the 1050, sold it in this forum and bought a Super 1050.
Short answer: 1050 hands down.

With the amount STI is charging, you are better off buying a Cheely frame, Caspian slide, plenty polimer grips for cheap out there and have a gunsmith put it together for you.

Shooters Connection will have KKM hybrid barrels for sale in the next few months. Commander, 5", and 5.4". Price should be a touch lower than SV as well. Schuemann is effectively out of business as far as I know.
That is excellent news! More competition. Now I have 3rd option [emoji848]

Just bought some Lovex D037.1 at Grafs on Black Friday. Will test.....if it is as soft as 3N38 and half as clean will take it at $136 per 8lbs!
With regards to 3N38 I am loading 9.6 gr behind MG 124gr at 1.165 OAL and never had a malfunction due to “growing” rounds ...using an Infinity hybrid barrel with 2 3/16 popple holes and binary engineering compensator for a 176PF.

This ^
For what they cost just carry spares and change when necessary.

Old Caspian are always a good deal, and MBX solves the magazine issues.

Buy used something that runs, until you know what you want.

Come on Powder Valley!!! I need some primers , don’t let other companies get all my money in pre-Black Friday sales. Already spent a good chunk with Precision Delta.

How dirty is this powder compared to HS6 or AA#7?

First I’d call dan bedell and ask him to build me a 9mm shorty. Then I’d buy the barrel below. C/P ramp, hybricomp, 3 port rib with 2 ports machined, AET.

That is 160 dollars more, just to have a Hybrid barrel, I might buy a tungsten guide rod if added weigh is needed up front.
Besides is Shuemann still in business?

No problem making major with 3N38 in commander with 2 3/16 popple holes
That is very good news.

Do you have a full length slide or a commander slide?
I have had or built several iterations of a gun like you are describing my preference after trying several barrel comp combos would be the brazos 4.5" trubor
I have a full length Caspian slide that will need to be trimmed.

If he does not show clear, you can’t follow with “hammer down and holster” or “range is clear” therefore no time will be given and everything comes to a stop until you as RO are satisfied that he showed you a clear chamber. My opinion.

This would be a fun way to try out a shorty 9
Buying used is not an option, I have all the parts already, I just need a barrel.
Probably will go with the crowd the “mid size” route so 4.6” (5.0” overall with threads). If possible, I would like to keep using 3N38 and a commander barrel with 2 3/16 popples would make it difficult.

So I am willing to try (pay for) a new build in 9mm major on the shorter side. This gun will have two 3/16 popple holes and a Chelley Titanium compensator. The gun will be light (at least for now), plastic grip, aluminum magwell and short dust cover. I have two barrel options:
1) KKM Commander barrel overall length including threads 4.65”.
2) KKM Intermediate barrel overall length including threads 5.00”.
For those more experienced and wise, which one would you choose?

The newer powder measures have been good. I think there was an update to the fit of the powder bar at some time to help with this. Mine have been good. One eventually got tight on me, but no leaking and after removing the powder bar, cleaning everything out, and sanding where the bar was dragging a bit it's smooth again.
Have you tried contacting Dillon? They may help you out with newer parts.
I have a “collection” of Dillon powder measures I will try one that is not circa 1997...Lol
Thanks for the quote, I remembered reading something about it... I will try the masking tape modification.

For those using AA#7, when I tried it, had powder spilling from the powder bar sides (Dillon RL 1050). Any solution for this? Does anyone use the Arredondo’s plastic powder bar replacement?

Get the 1050, keep the 550 for load development.

Use to when I was shooting 38SC place them upside down on a 9mm case and spray them with Dykem.

Winchester Small Rifle, might try CCI Small Rifle magnum in the future

Thanks for all the replies, I am reluctant to reduce my AOL in a 9Major load but I will give the magnum primers a try.

I was thinking of of switching primers to something hotter, I am currently using WSR primers. Maybe buy a case and do the same test...magnum primers? Other primer brands? This is a heavily compressed load @ 1,175, how about going down to 1,165? Would a shorter OAL decrease the amount of unburned powder?

The compensator is working just fine, the dot is returning consistently to the same spot.
My thought behind the question was that unburned powder = unused gas for the compensator.
Not a big issue, I am just greedy....

When I was shooting 38SC I will put 100 rounds in a 380 Case and spray them with blue or red Dykem.
