  1. First: Thank you for your service. I appreciate it.

Welcome from MSP area. I shoot a lot around the twin cities and depending on where you are in Wisconsin the MSP sites are close enough to drive.

    Check out

    www.MNuspsa.org

There is a nice calendar of events there that will help you find our shoots.

  2. It is a shame that I have to text to stay in touch with my children. They simply don't answer the phone but will respond to texts.

    I hate that.

  3. I have had better luck lowering the bullet weight to go from major to minor loads in 40. The problem I had was placement at 30 feet.

I load 180 grain lead for major and 155 jacked for minor with the same 4.9 grain win231 load.

    Bullet impact is very similar.

  4. I am prepping for the Big Dawg steel match at the end of this month and the shooter I am training with wears a golf glove on the weak had (left for both of us) and I decided to try it. I have to admit when I get sweaty it makes a big difference. While I have not shot an IPSC match since getting the glove I intend to wear it for both steel and IPSC.

I haven't tried one on my strong hand and likely wouldn't use it. I like the feel of the gun.

  5. I am glad I got three more from Dawson before the change.

I wonder if Dawson will modify his mag well design to work with these new mags?

  6. I had the same weirdness in my RL 1050 a while back. I pulled the main bearing out clenaned it and packe it with dillon grease now all the thinking is gone.

Might be overkill to pack the bearing with grease everytime this happens but I am willing to live with it for a while longer. At least until I buy another press. Once I have another 1050 up and running I will send this old RL in for a rebuild.

    Retread.

  7. If I didn't want to keep my 650 I would already have it. 9mm brass is so plentiful that I can't bring my self to buy it even if it has been processed. I have a guy I buy .40 from that has been processed like that but only because it is harder to find

I try not to pay for 9mm brass either but sending it out to be processed before loading it until you get your 1050 might lower the stress for you.

    Just a thought.

  8. You've found the eternal bane of the IPSC/Steel shooter. For me it was a never ending battle. Take your time, see the sights, call the shots... you cannot improve on that.

    be

Very true words. I am preparing for a large steel match and it seems I have to force myself to go slow and when I do my times are seconds faster..

At least I cannot miss fast enough to win.

  9. If All I was going to shoot out this gun was steel loads I would agree and replace the sights. I have already done the math and picked out a nice set from Dawsons site.

The problem is that if I change it to make the steel loads work when I go back to IPSC loads they will presumably hit low. I think the answer is I need to build a dedicated Steel gun and keep the IPSC gun sighted with the Major PF loads.

While I am dreaming of new custome built steel guns I am going to try the lighter bullets to see if I can move the point of impact down.

  10. Oh forgot the two questions you asked.

Expand only enough to get you bullet seated accurately

Crimp only enough to stop the recoil of the gun from moving the bullet and of course enough to get them to gauge.

Also; for super accurate rifle stuff I know people who headstamp sort and weigh each piece of brass to get to the most uniform loads.

  11. So if you are going for just accuracy start with the bullet drop test; find the lands then come back 3 thousandths to set a starting length. In my 29 th edition of the lyman reloading manual there is a recommended most accurate load for the bullet you are shooting. Not sure if it is trite group or not but that is the first place to start.

Which reloading manual are you using?

  12. Hey paul. Once you have the 1050 you will find yourself loving the elegance of everything on the down stroke. Until then there are folks out there that will process your 9mm brass removing any crimps and or roll sizing it if needed. It is an extra step with cost but an alternative to waiting on the 1050 before doing anything with your brass.

  13. Yes. The bullet is the same 180 lead round. I hadn't thought of changing the bullet weight. That is a good idea. I even have some 155's I am not doing anything with for a test case.

  14. HEy Guys, I am preparing to take my P16 to Big Dawg the end of this month and have noticed with my steel loads it is shooting 4 inches high at 50 feet. I am looking to replace the sites with some Fiber Optic instered versions from Dawson to correct the issue but then I am afraid my IPSC loads will shoot low.

Anyone having this issue with their gun? Different POI for different PF loads? Yes my gun has an adjustable rear sight and I 4" is the middle of the road setting the lowest I can get is about 3 and the most is about 5

    Thanks

    George
