Quick update as I have been busy for a while.
I heard about this from a friend and took my frame to a machinist not a smith. So we chucked the frame up in a mill and drilled it drone the back of the frame through the track where the trigger bar rides.
The standard dril l bits were not long enough so we wound up build and extension for the last 1/16 an inch. The treads were cut manually because we couldn't get the chuck close enough through the frame.
I would still recommend a 4/40 instead of the 6/32. The finer thread will give you an easier time adjusting the position.
I did snap a pic of the extension idea. If I get a chance tomorrow I will get it posted.

The grove is a great idea for 650 tool head storage. I built a PVC stand for my 1050 tool heads it was cheap and works very well. Just looks like PVC

There are many members in that maroon club.

Quietly raising my hand hoping no one notices.

Pic as promised. I have store it full size on my shutterfly account

I use a 6x32 screw so it matched the over travel one I. The trigger but it is too big. A 4x40 would be better.
It does make a big difference in getting the non adjustable triggers to run. If you have a gun that an adjustable trigger is available for then that is a better way to go. I was very nervous putting a hole in my frame.

Almost every trigger has the over travel screw but take up either comes either from the wing or a set screw.

I am using win231 for all those calibers. Each have a better powder but Win231 works ok for all.

Welcome Fairshake. Where ya from? I am in MSP and spent several years as an LEO and Armorer myself.

Thank you for both your service to the country and to those that have served.
Welcome to the forum.

I couldn't find the old post I had on here and unfortunately I've quit smoking now so it doesn't really have as much meaning but.....
One thing I always did to increase my safety level is have an open beer or two within arms reach in case my cigarette started a powder fire while I was watching football and reloading.
I had to put down my vodka glass and pause my reloading I was laughing so hard I that one:).
But seriously. The fire extinguisher is a good idea. Add some safety glasses and you are golden.
I should add a fire extinguisher.

I am not sure on the disorder name. Certainly obsessive to some degree.
I too have been caught in my underwear drawing agains the par timer. Never thought the wife would hear it all the way I. The basement. Scared the crap out of me when she opened the door at 1 AM.

Awesome set up and I know you will love the 1050 even more than the 650.
Welcom

I am training to shoot big dawg in a month and we are focused on mini poppers pis and standard 8" round plates. Almost all on a plate rack.

I have seen triggers out there that have wings in the to adjust take up.
I recently had a set screw installed in my double stack para to take put the take up.
I have a picture on another pc I will attempt to post. It did make a big difference I the trigger

Great. I load on a 1050 so no direct experience with a 550 but I think it will do 223. Have you acquired dies and a caliber conversion yet?
I am loading WC844 at 25 grains under a Montana gold 55grain bullet. I am using the CCI 41 primer as it is harder then the standard small rifle primer specifically for the AR. NOTE: pull down powders vary from lot to lot. While my current load is 25 grains the last batch was 26+ and the next one might be 24. Start low and work up looking for pressure sign and the velocity you desire. With my lot I am getting 2750 fps. Your results will vary!
Another thing that is very different for bottlenecked rifle cartridges is the fact that the have to be trimmed and the crimped primer pockets have to be swaged. The prep for 223 is a pain but there are services that will do it for you at a reasonable cost.

Don't even try WST in 223. Hodgdon makes a couple of nice powders and there are some decent military pull down available. I have intentionally left them off my post so we can have the conversation. And you can do a little more research.
A couple of initial questions.
1 which reloading manual are you currently reading? Even though I have been reloading for 30 years I like buyin a new book every few years to get updated load data and see how the technology is changing. I am currently reading the 49 th edition of the Lyman manual.
2 what press are you using to load?

When I first saw the post I had though I recalled a limit of 7 lightening cuts for limited but I went back to the 2008 rule book and didn't find it. Hopefully I am miss remembering the limit.
You pulled that one out of whole cloth.</mixed metaphor> There hasn't been any limit like that in place for at least the last decade.
Could be I started back 20 years ago and took about 15 years off before coming back. AKA retread
Cool gun. Good luck with the additional lightening.

Nice work. Where are you going to take out more weight?

I do it totally by feel and visual inspection for over crimp. I like a nice taper and enough that the bullets never move.

This may be every Para shooter in the sport posting here in this thread.
Welcome, and if that gun runs just shoot and enjoy it. You can worry about PF after you're comfortable in Limited!
Absolutely true. The challenge is the mags are the same price as STI mags. When you are starting it really doesn't matter if you are shooting major or minor power factor but unless you have the ability to buy another gun in a year it would be good to have the information before spending a several hundred dollars on mags and then buy something they wont work in in a year.
BTW the are 4 of us

I recently had a set screw installed in my frame to remove trigger take up. I have a picture but cannot post it to my sharing site at the office. I think this is one of the best enhancements out there to help trigger control with the original trigger. I will start another thread when I get my picture to my shutterfly account.
I hope it turns out to be worth the pain me and my machinest went through to get it installed. First time I have ever seen anyone make a drill bit extention out of a piece of slighly larger steel rod. pretty cool stuff.

I like a product called corrosionX as it has a better corrosion preventative in it then most of the other oils. I use it as a cleaner lubricant and protectant on all my guns. I do use the appropriate viscosity slide glide from brian for the rails and locking lugs in my 2011/1911 platforms.
Find something you like and us it.
Cheers

Welcome to another Para Shooter. I shoot a P16 limited (Canadian Made) in the limited division. One handicap you will face with the P18 is the requirement to stay Minor. The only division you can make major PF with a 9mm is the open division. And while the P18 may handle the ammo I suspect the frame to slide fit is too loose to run frame mounted optics.
Still no problem shooting Limited Minor just have to be a touch more accurate.
Cheers and welcome to another para shooter.

I am loading my 40 184 grain lead rounds with WIN 231 mainly because it is a reasonable all around powder. I use it in 45 and some 9mm. So it becomes an all around powder for most loads on my bench.
As to clean it is pretty dirty with the lead rounds. I haven't loaded any of the Montana gold in a while so I do not recall.
I have heard that the vitoventiri powders are very clean but I have no personal experience.

I can't believe you didn't change it during the quarter million preventative maintenance.

What is your 9MM Major load with HS-6 powder?
in 9mm/38 Caliber
Posted
I am running
7.8 hs6
1.120 OAL IIRC.
MG 124 jhp
Win Small Pistol primers
Rip this load makes 166 PF out of a factory STI Trubor. With the razor thin Margin we are bumping the next batch to 7.9 or 8.0.
