  1. Welcome to the forum. I am sure you can find someone around that can help with Lee equipment. But I suspect for the most part most of us are Dillon users. I know once I went Blue I never went back to Green.

  2. I was in the same boat. I used 4.5 w231 with 180 JHP Montana Gold, I don't remember chrono or OAL off the top, I can look if you need me too. It shot nice, was plenty accurate. Start at 231 starting load and check a chrono. I find with 40 go a bit over the 125-130 PF floor. Personally, I like 145-150, still plenty soft, but takes down steel and gun feels better in recoil.

What kind of velocity were you getting at 4.5. I am going to start there and chrono for 135 and the best feel with a few different springs. I do have a case of MG 180's that I think I will try as Iowa in July is humid and if it gets still the smoke from the lube could bother me in the later strings.

  3. I am shooting IPSC major with 5.3 grains of WIN 231 over a 184 grain lead bullet. I am setting the gun up for a steel match in a month and would like to set up some minor loads.

I read some great feedback on clays and will try those loads as they may be better than 231. That being said I have a lot of 231 and would like to know if anyone has any experience with 231 and the 180 combo personally.

I do have a set of recoil springs to lighten up the recoil in the process to get the gun running 100%.

  4. Thanks guys. I met with a buddy and we looked through the parts and came up with a desire to replace with a standard Dawson extractor and ensure that the tension is set correctly and maintained.

I may still go to the AFTEC as I have had great luck with it in the 9mm major gun just not righ now.

  5. Hey bob. I have three original ciener mags that I would sell. Two are used and ones NIB. If you want them like I said I will sell them but if you are trying to fixe a feeding or function issue the answers tend to lie elsewhere or at least the ciener mags do not make it better.

I have found the Black Dog mags to be the best for the conversion kits after you get them polished and get the right ammo and spring combination.

Let me know what you are trying to accomplish. If you just like ciener mags I have some if you are trying to get the conversion to run I might be able to help with that too.

  6. I have a bucket full of brand new, once fired PSD 5.56x45 military brass. It decaps OK, but when I run it through my Dillon Super Swage 600, it is REALLY hard work. Hard to drive the pin in, even harder to pull it out again. I've never encountered brass this difficult to swage. Has anyone encountered this problem? If so, how did you deal with it? Is swaging going to be an option? Can I lube the brass (and would it help)? Or do I need to look at using a cutter?

Sounds like to me that your swagger is not adjusted correctly for the brass you are swaging.

Are you doing mixed head stamps all at the same time? I have read that with a superstate you need to separate by head stamp and readjust based on the depth of the case base.

  7. Check out mnuspsa.com there are several clubs around that host monthly matches.

I shoot MAPSA out at Pine Island regularly. Hope to see you there.

Thanks pine island is a bit far. I will try to get over that way sometime.

I hope you do. The range is really nice with indoor plumbing and a open club house. Great day for sure.

  8. I have the standard extractor series 80 gun that is still stock. I am having a trigger job done with extracting the series 80 parts and replacing the extractor.

I have heard that the AFTEC in 40 had some vague issues so I thought I would ask here before plunking down the 80$ for the extractor if there were any specific experiences with the P16 limited with the AFTEC.

  9. Welcome back.

My layoff was so long I had to give my belt to my son.

Good thing the gun still fit my hand

Even my "skinny" belt would wrap around any one of my daughters a couple times. However, if I use that belt, I'm pretty sure I could use it to wrap around all 3 at once when they get too rowdy.

Hmmm,,,,,that belt may have additional use after all. :-) Just kidding,,,,,,the chances of getting them all to stand still together long enough are pretty slim.

I hope you can convince the girls to get to the range with you some day soon.

So far my youngest daughter has some

Interest but the early hours of the matches take her out of the running. Apparently at 23 late nights and parties are funner then shooting on Saturday mornings. Who knew?

  10. If you want one then buy it. As soon as you load anything on it you will start desiring to load everything on it. The 1050 is an awesome machine.

If you just need some brass processed then there are folks out there that will do it for a reasonable price or the super swage is a low cost alternative if you want to do it yourself.

  11. Way more than I can afford in a the time I have available. I put 200 rounds through an M 16 once as fast as it would run. I then replaced the bolt Harrell and gas system. Glut then against wasn't a para ordnance M16. :)

But seriously. I have gone through a hundred rounds per hour for 8 hours In training with no I'll effects. Just let the gun rest when you do.

  12. I normally start in the middle of the range for target loads and work up from there. Watch for pressure signs in the brass as you approach full charge.

My favorite target load for the 45 is

    185 SWC

    6.3 gr WIN 231

I run this in both large pistol and small pistol primers.

It gets enough velocity to stabilize the bullet well and is very accurate out of all the 5" guns I have tried it in.

To date I have shot around 15,000 of these loads with wonderful success.

Excepting the brass I am loading these for .12 each.

When you say start in Mid Range do you mean mid range Lyman, mid range Speer or midrange between the two of them. I forgot to say I shoot 4" Kimber 1911 and 5" XD Tactical.

Fslim has some good advice. Where are you located? I am in the twin cities and the reason I ask is that if there is an experience reloaded around you willing to help some time with him will be invaluable. If you are around me then we can certainly sit something up to go through the plunk test and get some loads worked up and tested.

To answer your specific question the lower mid range is a decent place to start.

With a 4" you will find different results then me but my 185 load should still run your gun just fine.
