Does anyone have a good load  for their X5 using 147 blue bullets and sport pistol?

I’m not using blue Bullets, I’m using a different brand of 147 grain, coated Bullets, with 3.3 grains of Sport Pistol, with OAL of 1.142”, for 132pf.

How high are you guys mounting your mag hangers? The 9 round mags are pretty straight forward but what about the 19 round mags?  What’s working for you guys?

I run mine with the shells up.

Just bring it straight up into the magwell.

If I remember correctly, when I timed it both ways, for ME, shells up is faster. Just over a second.

Ahh that probably explains it. I dont know of any gun on the production list that has a trigger pull like that of a nice 2011/1911. I.e. I dont think you will find a CO / Production gun that compares to the trigger you are used to for the past 15yrs. Probably going to be an adjustment period.

Had a practice session yesterday and ran my buddies atlas titan a bit. The x5's trigger doesnt measure up. As far as striker fired goes, not sure how much better it gets than the ggi kit on the 320.

My Apexed M&P Pro is at 36 oz, but I think it’s as crisp, and reset is as short as my STIs.

I suppose that if I only shoot the Xfive, and run a few k through, I SHOULD be able to pick up the pace.

life’s too short to only shoot one gun

How fast are you trying to shoot? I can pull splits in the teens with the gray guns P320 Competition Trigger System.

I CAN shoot it that fast, but not with the degree of accuracy I want.

I’ve been shooting open for the last 15 years, and find the longer reset on my xfives really seems to slow me down.

  5. I watched the video a couple of times, but I couldn’t see the spinner when you were shooting.

With proper shot placement, and timing, it SHOULD only take 3 shots, even with 1145fps, but, I’ve seen shooters empty their guns, shooting turkey loads

  6. Maybe it's been covered, and I just don't remember, but can anything be done to shorten the reset?

I have the Bruce Gray, competition kits in both pistols, but, I just can't seem to be able to shoot them with any speed.

Just an FYI, Graf's has 8lbers of Sport Pistol on sale for $128.69, plus it's eligible for 2 different rebates right now ($2 off per pound or Grunt Style clothes).

    Go figure.

I just got 16#, last week from Powder Valley for $133 a jug.😖

  8. I put an .45 sear, and competition spring kit in the 5", 2.0. I also rounded and polished the striker block, similar to Apex Ultimate striker block.

Apex told me that the competition spring kit wouldn't work in 2.0, but, mine has about 3K through it without issues.

I don't remember exactly what the trigger pull weight came in at, but, it's between 2-3"

I have an extra, new in package, Apex, competition spring kit that it looks like I'm not going to use, if you want it.

I have a couple new X5s.  One is very accurate.  It was tight from the beginning and had to go through the typical break in period with the whole pretension issue.  Took at least 500 rounds before it was reliable.  It is very accurate.

The other felt loose from the beginning.  It had no problem feeding even light loads with 100-100 pf ammo from day 1.  No problems with pretension.   However. I noticed after about a month that there was a big difference in accuracy.  The tight one was doing about 2 inch groups freestanding at 15-20 yards consistently.   The one that was initially loose is probably doing 4-6 inches at the same distances with the same ammo.  I called Sig and the rep told me over the phone that I COULD send it in to them but if it will do 2 inches at 30 feet (FEET!!!), then it would be considered within spec and they would charge me for shipping, ammo and range time.  WTF!  For a match grade barrel?  My Wilsons come with 1/2" at 25 YARD guarantees and even my apex M&P is far more accurate.  I was shocked and very disappointed.

Has anyone had or heard of something like this?  I am not sure what to do at this point....

I had a barrel with chatter marks in it that shot crappy groups. They told me the same thing. I told them that the worst M&P I've ever shot could pass that test.😖

Otherwise, their customer service has been pretty good to me.

No worries. I've done a lot of fiddling with the SNS & Bayou coated versions and several different powders / load recipes / power factors and .356 vs .357 vs .358 diameter. Never have seen any tumbling with 160's under any conditions. Just a for what it is worth.

The particular bullets I'm working with, are sized .356. A few years ago, I bought some that were sized .357, and in the pistol I was trying to use them in, at the time were more accurate than .356, but, I could only load the .357 bullets in Federal brass, otherwise, I couldn't get them in my Wilson case gauge.

I'm getting 1"-1 1/2" groups out of the same brand of bullet, in 147 grain, at 25 yards, out of both of my Xfives. Even though the 160 grain bullets aren't as accurate out of my pistols, they shoot softer. I've been having issues with my hands, and haven't been able to shoot limited, or single stack, with major loads in the last few years.

I actually talked to the bullet manufacturer and his first thought was that I had too much crimp. I told him that I don't have any crimp. I'm using once-fired Winchester brass and measured every case for length and have my die set to just straighten the bell. His next suggestion was to switch to Sport Pistol, but, at around 830 fps, I still get tumbling out of 3 different pistols.

I guess that I'll just use up what I have left at local matches, running them at 800 fps. I won't take them to a major match without more cushion than that.

That said, this thread is about Sport Pistol powder, and I'm REALLY impressed with it. It meters well, is softer, and more accurate than VV310, and when at the chronograph almost all are duplicate readings. I assume the few that are a little lower, or higher are because, according to my scale, the bullets don't always weigh out exactly the same. One of these days, I'll try some Zero, or Hornadays which I've found to be consistent.

My 9mm revolver shoots 160's from SNS & Bayou over sport pistol very well, likely closer to 130 pf than 134, have never seen a bullet tumble.Never saw it with that bullet and titegrooup either. For what it is worth.

128 pf shoots fine. It’s just when I tried to push them up to 132-135pf when they were tumbling.

I won’t go to any major match with 128 pf loads.

  12. I was trying to get 135pf with coated 160 grain bullets, and Titegroup, and bumped it to 134pf but I was getting tumbling. I called the bullet mfg and he suggested switching to Sport Pistol.

I hit 134 pf on my first try, with Sport Pistol, and noticed they shot a lot softer, but, when I walked down to the target (25 yards) I saw that the bullets were still tumbling. I guess that's the reason nobody at Nationals were using 160s.

I usually use VV310 for 147 grain bullets. I put together a load with Sport Pistol, went to the range and chronoed them side by side with my VV310 load. Both loads chronoed almost identical, but, I was really surprised that the Sport Pistol load was softer, and more accurate. Now, the accuracy COULD have been because I was using once-fired Winchester brass, with the Sport Pistol load, and R-P brass that was probably been fired 3 times, with the VV310 load.

  13. Thanks for the information.

I have heavier loads That I'll use for trap, or sporting clays, but, I pretty much run nothing but 1145fps, for 3-gun, but, stick with higher end stuff like Remington STS, or Federal, but, it took a little tuning, and I believe that my Firebird, even with the recoil reducers is lighter than VR80, so the recoil may be about similar. If I remember correctly, at a few matches, where they had a "spinner"target, guys were going out and buying turkey loads, but, with the Firebird, and whimp loads, I'd just double tap, and then hit the other end, to get it to spin.

I was just looking at some of the places that are out of stock, on the 19 round magazines, and see that they are listed as 2 3/4" only.

That may solve the rimlock issue, because there's less room for the shells to go back and forth.

  14. I had Firebird build me an open shotgun, when they first started. It is pre-XN, with the mid barrel comp.

I shot it with, and without the comp, and there is a difference, but, I also put mercury, recoil reducers, in the buffer tube, to help reduce recoil even more.

It had a lot of teething issues, but, Jim & Nancy gave me outstanding service.

Due to personal issues, I haven't been shooting 3-gun for the last 5-6 years, but, I want to start again, and HATE going to any big match without backup guns.

The VR80 looks like a really good option, compared to having another "custom" shotgun built.

They appear to be much simpler to take apart, to clean, and with the set screws holding the barrel to the upper receiver should result in smaller groups, with slugs.

I already have a pile of magazines, but, have learned that with box magazines, to only shoot ammo with good, stiff hulls, and/or keep ammo in a cooler, so they don't oval out, being stacked in the magazine, under pressure. Another issue is possible rimlock. That is where the rim, of the top round somehow jumps behind the shell underneath it. I've never had an issue with rimlock, while shooting, but, have found it, several times, when unloading, partially used magazines. It would seem that a good drum magazine would resolve the issues of box magazines, but, have never really had much luck with Promag, pistol magazines.

Has anybody had the issue of the bolt shaving aluminum, from the upper receiver, on their VR80s, like the early MKA1919s did?

I could not get my attempts with 160 to shoot well at all.  I used 3.0 TG with SNS 160s in glocks with both standard and lone wolf barrels along with a VP9.  None would shoot them well.  I had a few instances of tumbling too.

I used the same load at 1.14OAL and when chronoed all came in between 797-803. Accuracy wasn't as good as 147s, and definitely not as good as 124 jhps.

I weighed a bunch of the bullets, and they were between 158.1-160 grains. I bumped my load to 3.2, and was getting 130-134 pf, but, bullets were tumbling.

I called SNS, and he tried to tell me I had too much crimp, but, I measure each case (once-fired Winchester) and have my press set up for no crimp, just straightening out the bell.

He also suggested switching from Titegroup, to Sport Pistol.

I loaded a test batch with 3 grains of Sport pistol, and all came in between 130-135pf, just where I like to be, but, most bullets were tumbling again.

Guns used were 2 Sig xfives, and M&P Pro, with Apex, gunsmith-fit barrel.

I guess I see why 160 grain bullets weren't listed as being used by anybody at USPSA and IDPA nationals. 126-128pf is just too close.

I will burn up the rest of my 160s at lower velocities, just for steel.

So i picked up my X5 today and ran a few mags through it. Right off the bat it’s a GREAT shooter. Pretty dang flat but FOR SURE the best polymer pistol I’ve shot and I love my p10. Being that I loved it so much, I also got an X compact. Here is my issue. I had zero issues at all with my gun while shooting. Didn’t clean it first but only ran a few mags. I get home and take it out of the box to put up and notice the barrel is extremely tight to the bottom of the slide opening and it will not dryfire because it won’t go into battery. If I push on the back of the slide, it will go in but it is not right. Here are some pics. Any ideas??

My Xfive that has maybe 1k through it, is still doing what your’s does. If I pull the slide all the way back, and let it go, it will go all the way into battery, but if I just pull it part way back, I usually have to push it into battery. My back-up Xfive doesn’t do that. Both of my Xfives, are the most accurate plastic pistols I’ve ever shot. The tighter one will shoot 5 shot groups @ 25 yards with it’s preferred load, that I can cover with one paster.

I keep mine pretty clean and well lubed. I assume that it will loosen up. Hopefully, when it does, accuracy won’t turn to crap.

I don't shoot IDPA but I was reading along for interest and looked up the PCC rules. Does this rule not apply or are there matches that just make up their own rules?

1.1.6 Concealment garments: Concealment garments are optional for PCC shooters.

Yes, concealment garments are optional for PCC shooters

I did that last week. I was told to go through my local distributor and they cant help.

Living in Australia sucks eggs for things like this.

Ive learnt my lesson. Never buy a 2nd hand sig from someone who hasnt shot it enough to find any faults. 😑

I don’t suppose that there’s a different distributor that might help you out?

As far as I know, Sig’s lifetime warranty isn’t just for the original owner.

I bought the gun 2nd hand too.

Thanks for that info.  Ipsc rules dont allow aftermarket barrels unfortunately.

I would send an email to Sig, customer service. Maybe they would ship you a barrel without seeing the pistol, if you send them pictures

He's referring to a steel grip module compatible with the P320 platform, not the P226. The P226 X5 and X6 are, to my knowledge, predominantly SAO guns. Although I know there's at least a DA/SA version of the X5 available. And yes, they're quite spendy...

The DA/SA version, that is legal for production division is called Allround.

I searched for one, at a fair price for probably 10 years, and bought one through this site.

As accurate as my STIs, but, I had a cash flow problem, and sold it to a friend. It's the best gun he owns.

So you're sayin' you don't think a Lee "bulge buster" in 9mm will straighten that brass out & make it reusable again?

Even if you could force it through a die, I wouldn’t trust it. Working the brass that much would have to make it have a weak spot
