I think it has more to do with the shape of the bottom edge of the Dillon die.  If the case starts a little bit crooked like when the case rim is not fully seated in the shell plate, the Dillon die is less forgiving about straightening the case until the rim is fully seated in the shell plate.

It would be interesting to mark 10 rounds, then fire them is the suspect cylinders and then resize 5 of them with the Dillon die being very careful of their position in the shell plate and see what the results were.  Then switch to the RCBS die and repeat.

Or just switch to the RCBS die and carry on.

You're probably right!  I remember hearing/reading something about the Dillon dies. I Love their machines, but I've never used Dillon dies.  I actually use Lee and RCBS.

  2. Most of the tablets also have the ability to have a external battery pack installed.  At one of the clubs I shoot at, they have the external batteries attached to the back of the tablet cover which keeps it out of the way.

After I sync to stage tablets I don’t touch them. The squads can sort how they’d like on each stage tablet. Shooting order gets called out. Prior to shooting. If the ROs are bunched together it’s not a big deal to just skip one and slide them to the end or have them go first etc. empower your ROs and shooters or else you’re going to spend an entire match fixing perceived issues

Exactly! or just hit the random sort button again.  If you have two RO's back to back, just insert shooters in between them.  I think he's overthinking it.

    Thanks for the replies

SJBriggs, thanks for advice One Shot will be here Monday

Stick, Dillon press is ordered and I got shipping notification so hope to have it early next week.  I was happy I could find a 9mm press available somewhere!

amada8, Hundo is on order and should ship next week.

I also picked up some MTM ammo storage containers, a primer flip tray, inline LED light since I am old and blind, a bullet puller and some extra arco bins blue of course lol.

A quick calculation of my equipment costs is going to be roughly $1900 and that's counting everything.  To load my first 1k rounds of 9mm I am going to have .065 cents per primer, .067 per bullet, .05 per case and .02 for powder for a little over 20 cents/round.  With the going rate of .65 cents a round right now I will be saving $450 on that first 1k rounds.  At that rate it is not going to take me long to recover my investment!!

Even if I buy small pistol primers on GB which I can get for $640 for 5k.  That would be .13/primer and I'm still only at .33 cent/round which is way cheaper than you can currently buy it if you can even find it.

But most importantly I will have ammo and can keep shooting!

When you get a chance, look at the vibra-prime.  It will save you time in loading primers.

As for the press, You will now be able to save money by making your own ammo versus buying store bought.  The press will pay for itself!  The best part of loading your own ammo is that you can now cater the load to your gun.  Congrats on the acquisition!

Thanks, stick!  BTW, your sig line weirded me out for a minute since I have the same one on a different forum.  🥊

I've noticed it on Archery Talk.  I thought the same thing.  I don't use it on AT.  I just use my bow specs.  What's the forum you use it on?

Thanks for the info.  I am just getting started and hope the Hornady will be all I need for now.  I will upgrade if it gets to be to much to mess with or I start shooting/loading a lot more.  I was going to start with a Lee lol.  I am also planning to eventually do 223/556 and will probably just get a second press at that point since I read that the Hornady is a PIA to switch over.

I started with a Lee Turret Press.  I still have it and I use it for some load development for rifle rounds.  I, like most switched to a Dillon and it was the best thing I ever did.  I started with a casefeeder and I added a bullet feeder on when I could. secondly, both 9mm and 223 are small primer.  The changeover on the Dillon will take about 5 minutes.  I also think you answered your own question of which press to get in the bold statement above.  It might be hard, but I would look for one in the classifieds.  Someone might have fallen on hard times and they need to offload it.

How do you handle this at your matches?

How do you adjust the shooter order to allow adequate spacing between RO’s so that they can shoot?

Easy!  Let the RO's run the squad.  Many if not all matches use practiscore to score the match.  It's a simple thing called random on the tablet.  Once the order is set, you usually drop 1-2 shooters every stage.

Is this even a problem where you are?  I've never encountered an issue any issues at any of the clubs I've ever shot at.

There's a big difference between upgrading a trigger and getting a new platform all together. You say you know it's your fault, but it sounds like you want a new gun.

There's nothing wrong with that. The question now comes down to what you can afford. If you can buy the Shadow 2, a few mags, trigger job, and holster without batting an eye, then go for it. If not, then you have to ask yourself if you want to spend $250 on a Glock trigger. Which choice would be easier to convince you to choose? That's the one you truly want.

Personally, I'll just shoot it stock.

CCLASS said it perfectly.  It sounds like you really want a new gun.  Have you shot the CZ before?  You might want to try it and see if you like it before dropping $1500-2000 in new gear.

  9. Stay with the 231.  As you mentioned in your post, you wanted a powder to fill the case to avoid double charges.  231 will work for those calibers and depending on your load, should provide ample powder in the case for visual verification.  I use Titegroup.  BUT it is a low volume powder and it seems you are a new reloader.  Stay away from it until you are very familiar with the ins and outs of reloading.  Titegroup is very easy to double charge because of the low volume of the powder drops.  Get into the habit of looking in the case and visually verifying the powder drop. It won't take long before you can determine what you drop looks like for a particular load.

"Steel must fall to score" - this puts the burden on the shooter. They must have both an accurate shot as well as proper ammunition.

There will never be a "fair" way for this because it's still physics in motion. A small breeze is more than enough to keep a popper from falling on minor PF ammo.

If we get into these insanely intricate calibrations, what's next? A calibration because a Texas star didn't spin at the same rate for one competitor as it did another?

My thoughts exactly.  What's next?  Where does it end?  Steel must fall.  I've been at matches where one popper would fall because of the wind and the same popper would still be standing after a competitor shot it.  Plain and simple...Steel must fall.

  11. I have a xl650.  I also load 308 but I use H4895.  My load is 42gr,  I used to weigh every load and hand trickle to get exactly 42gr.  For my load which is similar to yours, I found that my throw was consistent enough if it was +/- .01 grains from my desired load.  I just loaded up 30 hunting rounds for my son.  I weighed each case and zeroed out my scale between cases.  Every single load was either 41.9gr, 42gr or 42.1gr.  For hunting loads, this is very much within normal expectations.

My hunting load is 42gr of H4895 behind a 150gr Hornaday SST

If you want more consistency than that, I would suggest you buy a automatic chargemaster or a auto charge pro.

  12. At your next match, Take a survey of the shooters and ask.  I feel that availability of centerfire ammo and components and the lack of said components probably contributes to the swing you are seeing.  The only way to confirm is to survey the shooters.  All we are doing is speculating.

I guess my question is, can it be factors outside of the bullet that affect the plunk test. For example, the bulge in the case after seating the bullet?

Yes, I tested all three rounds at the same time on the same barrel

Yes.  The crimp and lack of crimp will affect the plunk test.  If you don't remove the flair or over flair the case it will affect the plunk test.

I havent tried that app but i find the ced easy to use like tweaking par times to deduct  reaction times or add time due to additional movements or such.
i looked it up and might try it. One concern is, it will be in the cell phone or tablet?, maybe not so handy to put in the pocket or attach to the body and do some aggressive movements?

Cell phone.  I use a otterbox, so I just hook it into the clip.
