Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. In the .45, I have found these mags need more care and attention than reliable single stack models. BUT I am running 10 rounders for some of the games I play. I found every one of them required minor adjustments and tuning. I learned how to do them myself in my shop. (not without speed bumps) I also have purchased 14 round tuned mags and find they are reliable and perform reliably. Still, I found it is important to keep them clean and lightly lubed so you are not worrying about them on a stage. When I slack off, I usually find a follower starts hanging in the tube and doing other things that force me to take the mag out of commission until I can repair it. Just one person's observations. YMMV.
  2. Might consider having a look around here: http://www.mansonreamers.com/
  3. I would be suspicous the side saddle install somehow interferes with the action if the barrel if fully seated. That is what happens when the mag tube is screwed down tight. Might remove the mag cap and play with seating the barrel and dry firing. and see if this guess is correct. It is hard to say not seeing the gun so I am guessing. Larger issue is search for the interference with the fire control components that are being contacted when the barrel is fully seated. You might be able to see metal on metal wear where the side saddle hardware makes contact (?). You would need to remove the trigger group and look. Just a couple thoughts.
  4. Thanks Lee. I will look at that again next time I clean the gun this week.
  5. Thanks Guys. The mags are tuned and sized per the Dawson recommendations. I will give the fine sandpaper a look on a test piece before I go to town on my magwell.
  6. Is there anything that works well to polish the polymer magwell on the inside? I am looking to smooth out the plastic to reduce binding caused from friction on the inside.
  7. So, the back pocket IS ok and only the front pants pocket is a problem? I shoot single stack and have been placing my Barney in my strong side front pocket to keep it out of the way. But I only shoot local matches and the RO's havent mentioned this.
  8. Cerakote is a very good coating which is applied in very thin layers. The oven cured is very durable as compated to many of the 'gunkotes' out there. The surface has good lubricity and holds lube well. Why a Glock? perhaps to cover holster wear. The tenifer process is very good but the coat they use does wear off. Or perhaps the owner wanted to change the color.
  9. HQ hasn't published the stats for this as of yet but I worked on this some with the area coordinator in our state (FLorida) who is tied for third largest with California. Texas has 31 clubs and Pennsylvania has over 20 clubs. I can also tall you there are a couple clubs in our state who regularly have over 100 shooters for their local matches. The next tier are clubs with between 70 and 80 shooters which, is what I belong to. There are someone on the order of 17,000 members. That is on their web site.
  10. On July 30th, we are hosting the first IDPA Triple Crown match at the Universal Shooting Academy in Frostproof Florida. The event is a 3 match series featuring over 50 stages and introducing Team competition to the sport of IDPA. The concept allows individuals to compete as in all sanctioned matches, but also allows groups of clubs to send 5 representitives from each of the divisions to compete as a team over the three matches. Every shooter earns points for their team depending on their placement and at the end of three matches the shooters from the top three teams earning the most points will be awarded Triple Crown trophies. The matches are the weekends of July 30th, October 1st and December 17th. The October match will be held following the IDPA World Championship and will be a re-shoot of those stages. The December match we are planning to split the sessons so shooters shoot a portion of the match in low light conditions at night. We are holding a side match where you have an opportunity to shoot an Iron Sight carbine and compete both for a trophy based on the best time for each classification and then at the end of the day we are raffling off the gun to a lucky competitor. We will be offering the Classifier for shooters on Friday the 29th if they would like to update their classification or change divisions for the match. We are offing this mainly to help the Teams however we will accomidate other shooters on a space available basis. If you are interested in additional information, enter IDPA Triple Crown as one word DOT com. Thank you for your interest.
