  1. Vince, ya, I don't want to see how shooting .40sw in a 10mm bbl might work. Anyhow, I didn't mean to make a big deal of all this ... I shot a G34 for my first year and a half and still have it so I could always use that for USPSA Production. I also have a P226 that I absolutely love. It's just that I like the G20 and I'd like to think I have that option. As I said earlier, I like to talk about this kinda stuff and, if anything, understand why things are the way they are. As it is, I FINALLY got my SV Ltd ... so now I'm gettin' all ready to give 'er a run. Thanks for all the great info!
  2. Just signed up for StartLogic.com ... the reviews look very good. Not as good a deal as 1and1 looked ... although, I'd've preferred to keep ASP.Net anyhow so it's about the same as 1and1's business package. Got the confirmation email sent to my ISP account about 1min after clicking ok. Had to sign-up for 3mo's at a higher price and pay a $15 setup fee so that bites ... but, in talking to them, they really sound like they know what they're doing. I figured it was worth a shot ... money back in 30days anyhow. We'll see how it goes.
  3. So I logged on to cancel my account ... as they won't let me do it over the phone. Long and drawn-out. Finally, I had to print 2 forms ... one for the account, the other for the generic domain they assigned me ... and had to sign and date each one and fax them to them. One thing, they intend to cancel my account as of September 23rd ... obviously intending to charge me for 3mos of service. Now, it woulda been one thing to charge me a non-refundable setup fee. But, there was no setup fee. I've never been able to use the product I purchased. Basically, they're trying to rip me off for a measly $15. So, I had to call my credit card co. and void my current card and have them issue me a new one. RUN AWAY! Sorry Shooter-grrrl ... my experience wasn't nearly as positive as yours.
  4. Flex, I wasn't asking about shooting .40sw in a 10mm bbl ... FYI. Basically, I prefer the G20 for the larger grip for my larger hands and I prefer .40sw for the cheaper factory ammo. Thanks for the info Vince.
  5. Shooter-grrl, I've been paying for commercial hosting since '95 ... I didn't think I was making it too difficult. Anyhow, FWIW, after I faxed my request to change my email, about an hour later, I "magically" received the email, to my ISP email account, specifying my password for my 1and1.com account. I checked the details of the email ... it somehow was sent at 8:00pm yesterday and I received it around 3:00pm yesterday ... about 2hrs after I clicked the "forgot my password" link. Whatever. So, I just called their support line ... sat on hold for about 20min (no lie) and tried to explain everything that's happenned up 'til now. Basically, I just wanted to know how it was that I got this email 2hrs later and to find out if they changed my email. This guy couldn't tell me a thing ... honestly, I think he was stoned on something. BTW, about a half-hour ago, I clicked the "forgot your password" link again to see if the email was flowing smoothly yet ... no email yet. Also, FWIW, the stoner confided in me that they have been having a lot of trouble with the "sign-up" emails not reaching their customers. So, at least I've got my password (which, after a week of waiting for the confirmation email, I forgot that I actually set ) so now I can logon to cancel my account. Apparently their business is so good they don't have to concern themselves with little-old me. godaddy.com looks a little pricey for the space and traffic. Oh well, back to the drawing board.
  6. Vince, thanks for the confirmation ... that's what I woulda thought. FWIW, I understand I could shoot that gun in other divisions ... the bottom-line is it's really no different than a G21 which is legal. Put another way, if Glock were to offer a G40 (identical to G20 but with a .40sw bbl ... yet to be produced ) and sold 2,000 of 'em, it'd be legal. And, I got this funny thing about trying to get a decent classification in ALL divisions. I'm not trying to be a gamer here. Anyhow, I was just curious what the actual IPSC rule on that would be ... so, again, thanks for the response. Flex, I appreciate that this topic has already been beaten into the ground ... I hope you appreciate that I missed out on that Anyhow, personally, I don't like to disassemble guns and try to mess with 'em ... if they run, they run ... if they don't, they go back to the factory until they do ... or I get rid of 'em. If your "light tuning" gives you even the slightest advantage over me with an, otherwise, identical gun, then it isn't only about my shooting skills vs. your shooting skills anymore ... it's about those combined with your gunsmithing skills vs. my gunsmithing skills (or, lack thereof). And I don't think that jives with the "spirit" that Production was created with. Again, that's just my opinion. I understand, and respect yours. I guess we just see it differently ... no big deal. FWIW, following up on my earlier statement, I think IPSC rules could lighten up a bit too. But, as I said, I don't see that I'm in any position to debate the issue intelligently. Until everyone can agree what "modifications" might, or will not, provide a competitive advantage, I suppose about the best you can do is stick with the way things are. One interesting thing though ... what if SV/STI were to build a DA pistol ... ala Glock or even Para LDA ... ala Ltd/Edge ... and sell 'em for around $1000/ea ... and if they sold over 2,000 of 'em? I'm sure you'd still have guys with Glocks beatin' 'em ... but I just thought I'd throw that out there for potential discussion. Along those lines ... just out of curiousity, what, technically, prohibits the G34/G35 from IPSC Production? I'm guessing it's the 3.5lbs trigger ... but, I thought you could get that in the 5lbs? BTW, thanks for taking the time to answer my questions ... I really appreciate it.
  7. I'd still appreciate an answer ... from Vince maybe ... on my non-"C" Glock 20 w/.40sw bbl question. Nik, it's apparent to me that I wouldn't know what does or does not offer a competitive advantage. But I do see Production as a "stock" division. Aside from any necessary work to make a gun reliable, I don't see "tuning" as being "in the spirit of" the Production division. I appreciate that you put in a lot of work to make a particlur load run well in your gun and you don't want to have to undo that. I also appreciate that everything you've done is legal. And I don't have a problem with that. Just as a matter of my opinion, I'd rather see USPSA get closer to IPSC Production rules than farther away. If a gun, bought off the shelf, of a particular make and model, cannot compete, "untuned", with any other such gun, then maybe it isn't an appropriate choice for Production. In the end, I really don't care one way or the other that much. I just like guns and shooting and, as a consequence, I like to talk about anything related to those.
  8. Never did receive the confirmation email. Called 'em and d!cked around today. They can send email to my hosted account (which I do not want to use for that as that's what I'm trying to switch and I believe is generally a bad idea). But, they can't send it to my ISP email account. It don't bounce back to 'em. It don't get quarantined. It don't get to me. It just don't. So, now I'm faxing (that's the only way, I guess) a request to have my email account switched so I can logon to cancel my account ... 'cause they can't do it over the phone. Too good a deal for me I guess. Any other suggestions?
  9. Thanks for the info on the plug. Not to beat this into the ground ... I understand that IPSC does not allow "C" Glocks to compete in Prod no matter what ... but, the way Garfield stated the rules begs a question ... for me. Does IPSC allow a non-"C" Glock 20 to compete in Prod if it has an aftermarket .40sw bbl? I'm no gunsmith ... but, as I understand it, the only difference would be that the .40sw bbl chamber is slightly (1/16th?) shorter than a 10mm chamber. I suppose someone could complain that that would be adding weight. A few of us have gotten into these types of discussions. My stance is that if you're gonna shoot Prod, shoot a stock pistol. But, there's also another side ... the lawyer side ... which I disapprove of just as much. When someone tries to add weight to the gun or send it to JP for "slickening" ... well, if that's what you gotta do to be pleased with yourself. But, if someone's gonna cry about a plastic butt plug (not the same as what I was referencing earlier) which weighs no more than 1oz and was added only for cosmetic reasons or to make the shooter feel like his internals were better protected ... well, if that's what you gotta do to improve your odds. Of course, as I mentioned in another thread regarding a tungsten guide rod ... best not to tempt fate on such matters ... a butt plug looks like a butt plug and no one wants to have to weigh everyone's butt plug at every match to make sure that no one's cheating. That and $0.50 will get you a small coffee. I'm a firm believer in what Vince said ... it's the guy holding the gun ... not the gun itself. As such, I don't believe a tungsten guide rod, of just about any weight, would make any difference anyway. Still, it's nice ... or, it'd be nice ... to have one division where you don't need to spend a small fortune to keep your equipment competitive. Seems to me I read recently where some guy said something like "the trigger-pull has the single-biggest effect on accuracy" ... I would change that to say that it has more to do with accuracy by a factor of 10 than everything else combined ... but that's just me.
  10. Vince, I'd be interested in hearing what the reasoning is behind not allowing non-ported replacement bbl's in "C" Glocks. If anything, I'd think there'd be, albeit very slight, less weight in the muzzle-end which would be a, albeit very slight, competitive disadvantage. When the notion strikes me, I shoot Production (USPSA) with a G20C with a replacement .40sw bbl. I see this as no different than the G21 ... or even shooting the G20 with light loads. I prefer this setup as I have fairly large hands (XXL) and the G20 seems to fill 'em up more ... and I don't handload and .40sw is a lot cheaper than .45acp and/or 10mm. Also, we just had a match yesterday where a guy was shooting a Glock in Production with a plug ... the SC saw it and recommended to the MD to bump him to Open. The shooter put up a fight citing that there was nothing in the rulebook ... but, someone indicated that it was in the Front Sight mag and that was just as good. Any thoughts? Thanks.
  11. In case you're talking about the pledge ...
  12. Alright ... I'm just a newbie (3yrs shootin' USPSA) ... but this whole thing really bugs me. And it's not just the XD ... it's Glock too ... particularly those with the 3.5lbs connectors (and such ... JP). It's my understanding that the Production division was formed to entice (sp?) those many thousands of gun-owners who own little more than a Ruger, Beretta, S&W, or Sig (I'd doubt that HK's approach those numbers) 9mm traditional DA pistols. Presuming, of course, that an SA (1911) pistol has a significant competitive advantage due to the trigger (weight, reset, stroke). If anyone makes "M" with any of those DA pistols, more power to 'em. I don't see how Production is all that inviting to first-time shooters when those others shooting Production are trying to talk them into buying a Glock or XD and getting all the "extras". Does it really matter whether DA causes two actions or not? What if three actions are performed ... is that a Triple-action? It seems to me, at least from the start, it was about the trigger ... isn't that why the 1911's are, supposedly, at a competitive advantage? If the rule were that a Production gun had to have a 5lbs or 7lbs or more initial trigger-pull, then maybe all this could've been avoided. As it is, I see people shooting Glocks and XD's between Production and Ltd-10 with impunity. Why? Well, with a 3.5lbs or less trigger, they're very competitive against the 1911's in Ltd-10 ... presuming most Ltd guns are slicked up Paras, SV's, or STI's ... otherwise, I'd expect them to fare very well there too. Glocks are very popular ... and rightly so. And, of course, just about everyone else has tried to market "their Glock" (S&W Sigma , SA XD, HK 2000, I'm sure there's others ... I've just never even bothered to look into 'em). The XD competes very well 'cause it handles like a Glock ... is pretty well as safe as a Glock ... but, the trigger affords just a bit more "slickening". If the XD takes too big a bite outta the market, I wouldn't be surprised to see Glock produce a SA pistol. What then? Surely you can't allow an XD SA pistol but not a Glock SA pistol. Anyhow, FWIW, I sure would rather see another division created where the Glocks, XD's, and whatever can compete on "equal" footing ... away from the traditional DA's. I realize there's pretty much no chance of that happening. But, based on what I've read here about why the XD is USPSA-legal, it sure does seem reasonable to me. And, in the meantime, it seems a shame that the Production division is, somewhat, undermined just because the XD was, once, on some list.
  13. I'm no rules-meister but ... My understanding is that a Production gun is supposed to be "stock". Sure, a little skateboard-tape, new sights, trigger-job ... that's all fine. But, it's my understanding that when you start talking about "weighting" the muzzle, that's where they draw the line. I understand that if a Tungsten rod is no heavier then "no harm done" ... although, unless it's hollow, I don't see how that's possible . But, if people at matches hear you talking about your Tungsten guide rod, somebody's probably gonna get pretty uptight about it no matter how much it weighs. I've never been to the bigger matches ... do they have scales for such things? If they weigh the same, why not just use the stock rod? Stock spring, for that matter too. I shot my G34 for a season and a half and never had one problem and never bothered with such things. No, that's not a particularly long time ... but, long enough to warrant replacement of the same exact parts should there ever be a problem. Don't get me wrong ... I'm not trying to lay down any smack here. I'm just wondering what all the fuss is about lookin' at the non-stock parts.
  14. Just in case I wasn't making myself abundantly clear. Also, you were the "authority" mentioned ... I just didn't want to give away the farm in case that was all on the QT ... thanks, BTW.
  15. I started with FY and I'm only in my 2nd year of that. I'm pretty sure there was more than mine. It's just that what I saw of mine, I knew it was an error. I was hoping someone else noticed the same thing. But, if no one does, maybe I need to take a harder look and prepare some real evidence.
  16. I had sought out the link to add to my website. In the process, I have it, on authority, that anything in red is, indeed, USPSA-only. In case that wasn't abundantly clear yet.
  17. Thanks! I looked it over. $30/6mos and they'll reimburse any unused whenever you cancel. I'm pretty sure they're offering more space and transfers ... definately more emails (not that I need them). Only thing I'm giving up is .NET ... no need to pay another $15/mo just for my ballistic calculator which, I hope, I can rewrite ... actually, now that I think of it, that should be pretty simple to do with javascript. I signed up online. I didn't see anything about referencing you ... but, I used your link to get there. Just waitin' on my login info and I'll start movin' my stuff. I just hope the domain transfer goes smoothly ... that's my primary email account. I'm takin' your word on all this ... so if it don't work out, I'll be lookin' for you!
  18. I just entered scores the other night. I went to update classifications ... new file as of the 12th. I noticed that my own master-record had no classification ... at all. I used the # in the master-record (copy-n-paste) to do a search (via Notepad ) in the ezdb.txt (sp?) and my record showed up. I ran it a few more times ... no change. It kept showing that my USPSA # and division had no match ... WTF?! I had to add it manually. I checked out the FAQ and everything. No, I didn't save it under another filename. I'm quite certain I'm running the latest version. I'm at work and the software's at home so if you ask about any details, you'll have to wait ... if I check after I get home at all. Anyone else ever see this sort of thing?
  19. Who do you recommend for hosting? I've got Verio and they suck @$$! I need at least 50mb and 10-20 whatever@mydomain.com POP email accounts. I'm paying $25/mo now. Could be a lot cheaper if I paid for a few years up-front ... glad I didn't. Thanks.
  20. Please Sig-Lady ... I'm a married man ... I don't need such temptations. FWIW, Travis, and others, I've put together a little javascript calendar which is quite easily scammed from my website urona.com/uspsa/ogc/schedule. It's meant to be used on a month-by-month basis. It automatically figures out the main holidays ... even Easter (verified thru 2010) Once you've got the main .js file, the rest is pretty quick 'n simple to throw into anything (basically, a one-liner for each month). Oh, if you check it out, be sure to hover over the highlighted days for any "tip". Incidentally, if you haven't tried TextPad (not a MS thing), it's quite nice for html and sql. Also, when did "frame" become a dirty word?

    S-I Debates

Wait just a minute! I ordered my SV in January ... I just hear today that it should be coming in any day now. And now you're sayin' I can't find out why my choice was so idiotic?! Well that's just great! Now the only way I'll have to judge my purchase is by my own experience with it! Thanks for nothin'!
  22. Haven't seen M&C. Not planning too either. On Leonardo, I can't comprehend what the ladies see in, what appears to me to be, basically, a 12yr-old boy ... no matter how old he really is or what role he plays. I certainly don't mean to imply that I'm any judge of such things ... just that I'd expect the ladies to go for a little bigger kinda a man like Fabio or something. Perhaps one of those of the fairer persuasion can enlighten me? Not that I really give a rats @$$ ... mind you. Just one of those things that annoys me once in a while.
  23. I was flipping through the channels the other day and I came across MTV and their 2004 movie awards. Someone won "best kiss" or "best team" or something ... but, he wasn't there to receive the award. The Rock, who was presenting, said "we have 30 seconds allotted so you I guess we can just show this ...". And, on the BIG screen, Moore spouted off about how his new movie is out and how he had no clue why Bush was so upset about it ... as if to suggest "what's Bush trying to hide?". All the while, Moore was trying to come off like he's your normal, beer-drinkin', next-door neighbor. I thought this was all some big joke or something ... I was waiting for the punch-line ... I figured they set him up or something. Then, Moore finished by saying "please vote" (not saying for who ... but, his lack of doing so, to the MTV audience was, in a way, like suggesting "if you know the secret, then you know who to vote for"). Immediately, they flashed to Jack Black, in the audience, wearing a t-shirt that said "Vote" on it. Oddly enough, Black had a rather unemotional expression on his face ... couldn't tell if he was with 'em ... or agin' 'em. And that was it. Personally, I don't think Moore is anywhere near our worst problem. Most everyone, whether they agree with him or not, knows which side he bats for. I think the problem is in the more subtle messages ... CNN, CBS, NBC, ABC, PBS ... and a long list of movies. Ever see "An American President"? I don't know that they, even once, said he was a democrat. Richard Dreyfus plays the power-hungy, no-mercy, Republican hopeful ... who, at the end of the movie is put in his place by the common-sense, reasonable, fair, but tough Michael Douglas. One issue in the plot is "the crime bill" which Douglas is desperate to pass. The main issue of that bill is to get guns out of the hands of criminals. Near the end of the movie, his love interest, in a common-sense rant which forces Douglas to re-evaluate his presidency, blurts "and for a crime bill which has no chance of stopping crime ... so some kid can buy an UZI". At the end of the movie, during his common-sense rant at Dreyfus' character, he says he's throwing out his feable compromise bill and setting to work drafting "real" legislation and something about "I will get the guns!". Was the whole story about gun-control? Not in the least. But, the message was loud and clear. I haven't seen any "Somebody that we don't need to talk about on the SHOOTING forum" movie. I refuse to watch anything with Douglas, Robbins, Penn, Sarandon, etc.
  24. Took the new SX2 to the range yesterday to get the sights on-line and check out a few different brands of slugs. After shooting about 30 slugs, I went to make the final adjustment ... ... no rear sight. I looked around for quite some time to no avail. Now I've gotta order a new rear sight, buy more slugs, and start all over again. Also, the clamp for the bbl and mag-tube got rocked off at one point. Also worth noting, a few times, 2 shells would come into the carrier at once and lock it up ... I had to pull the bolt all the way back to get it to let go of the top one and pull it out ... a couple times, I was able to push the bottom one back into the back thru the ejection port. I'm quite certain this is due to the strength of the new mag-tube-spring and, I might leave it fully loaded for a week or two to see if that clears things up. For what it's worth, I couldn't find any Remington lo-recoil slugs ... I found Winchester Super-X 1600fps 1oz at Gander Mtn for $6.50/15 ... also at Gander Mtn, I found Brenneke 1oz ?fps for $2/5 ... and, at Fleet Farm, I found Federal (that new "fun" packaging they're using ) for $2.10/5 for 1oz 1610fps. I didn't get settled down enough to determine if any one was more "accurate" than any other ... mostly, I just wanted to see if any one didn't want to function ... they all functioned very reliably. The Brenneke's SEEMED softer ... maybe they were, maybe they weren't ... but, they sure did SEEM like it. All other things being equal, considering the price difference, I guess I'd go with the Brenneke's ... so long as I can't find Rem lo-recoil cheaper. I also ran through 10rds Fed Top Gun 7.5 2.75de shells ... aside from the 2-shell at once thing, they were fine. This was my first time ever shooting any type of slug. I was just thinking ... ... for whitetail within 100yds and hunting mostly in the sticks, I'd believe that a 20ga auto w/rifled bbl would be a very nice gun. Those 12ga slugs were not to be confused with .22lr ... but, I've dealt with a lot more recoil before ... certainly a lot sharper recoil ... just thinkin' out loud. Now, to get that clamp to stay in place, I've sanded the sides of my bbl and mag tube and applied some super-glue I've had laying around and ... jk Not sure what this Thursday will bring so don't hold your breath.
