  1. so i used dawsons method for determining what my front sight should be in hitting the bulls eye at 20 yards and have a question. if im supposed to decrease my front sight .030 would the exact opposite be to find a rear sight .030 higher? that is if i dont want to lower my front sight.
  2. Just returned home from the match. I think the courses were great. I couldn't resist yelling out "Police, search warrant!" on stage 1. My original 170 pf load down to 166 due to the heat though.
  3. slide stop already done a while back. i know its not ejection because i am ejecting slowly and watching to see if it is hitting the top part of the chamber. Plus, it wouldnt be hard to eject due to the cut in the bullet if it is happening during extraction.
  4. they extract with no resistance unless the cut is deep and it displaces the lead outward on each side of the cut. If that happens, it is difficult to extract because it increases the width in that area.
  5. i figured out where it is hitting, five o clock position when looking at the chamber. I've dremeled this area enough and dont think it would be safe to go any further. It is still hitting after rounding the corner pretty good.
  6. yes, only one mark per bullet. its only happening on every third or fourth cartridge.
  7. I am using his .400 bullets already. Glad he has those. I will try the marker and some paint that may stick to where it is hitting inside the chamber.
  8. Its happening during chambering, not extraction.
  9. They are not hitting the rifling. Ive got two brazos super mag's and and two others that have been tuned. The brazos measure .545 at the tip and .565 at the wide spot. The tuned ones are .532 and .557. Ive noticed that the wider ones produce shallower cuts than the narrower mag's.
  10. I'm at wits end and decided to see if anyone else has run into this. My cartridges are hitting something as they are being rammed into the chamber. So far, I've dremeled and polished all the sharp areas around the entry to the chamber. Any ideas? My load is a 180 grain Bayou Bullet at 1.180 oal. Barrel is a Scheumann AET.
  11. I recently acquired a 50 lb bucket (feels like it anyway) of federal nt brass. I noticed that federal apparently uses two styles, crimped and non-crimped. The crimped obviously has the ring around the primer. The non-crimped has blue sealant around the primer without any ring visible. The primers on the non-crimped also had the typical swelling around the edges of the pocket like other non-crimped loads. After removing the primers, I measured the cups. The non-crimped measured .170 while the crimped was .168 on the crimped brass. I observed the same cup measurement on some other brands of non-crimped brass which leads me to believe the nt brass with blue sealant is good to load without swaging. I ran a batch of blue sealant brass through my Dillon 550 and didn't have a single problem. I also noticed the same small flash hole in the brass with the blue sealant as in other brands of non-crimped brass. The crimped nt brass had oversized flash holes. Oh yeah, the primers from the crimed brass bulged out when being deprimed while the primers from the blue sealant brass did not buldge at all. I am sure glass that I have fifty pounds of this stuff.
  12. good choice. im going to play around with WSF soon.
  13. 4.5 WST gave me a PF of 160, 4.6 gave me 163, 4.7 should be 166, and 4.8 should be 169. OAL is 1.190 with Federal pistol primers and bayou bullets 180 grain. Barrel is a Scheumann AET STI custom build.
  14. I also do not like TG. It just seemed too hot and dirty. I recently switched to WST; 180 bayou bullet with 4.7 WST at 1.190. It seems to do ok but the jury is not out yet. I use WST for .45 this past major match with around 285 rounds and it left my pistol very dirty on the inside. I had to scrape caked up carbon off the inside just above the ramp. It also smoked a ton with missouri bullets. I have not seen any smoke at all with the bayou bullets though in .40 cal. By the way, I have been experimenting with Federal small pistol and Win small rifle primers and noticed that the Fed loads are much more consistent on standard deviation. e.g. 6 SD after 6 rounds fired at 4.6 with WST and 5 SD after 6 rounds fired at 4.5 WST! The Winchester loads were 22 and 16 SD, respectively. I will be using Fed primers for major matches for now on. However, I plan on testing WSP primers just to see if those will have the same type of deviations as the rifle primers.
  15. 4.8 WST 1.245 OAL (long as i can go)
  16. Thought I'd post this for anyone interested. .40 Precision Delta 180 grain FMJ WST powder Federal small pistol primers OAL 1.190 Slight crimp, .421 Dillon 550 with Dillon dies Scheumann AET barrel Sunny, 80 degrees, 2pm Competitive Edge PAL chronograph 5.2 grains WST 911 932 909 924 900 Avg 915.3 = 164.7 PF (looks like I better bump it up a bit) I will try the same load with Winchester small rifle primers next. I would say that will make a difference.
  17. Thought I'd post this to see if anyone would like to know. .45 Missouri Bullet IDP#1 200 grain SWC WST powder Federal large pistol primers (regular) OAL 1.245 slight crimp Dillon 550 using Lee dies, for now. Storm Lake barrel The brass were all RA and WCC from 1942! Used a citrus soak to clean the corrosion out of the pockets after depriming before tumbling. Sunny, 80 degrees, 2pm Competitive Edge PAL chronograph 4.7 grains WST 812 841 832 830 825 Avg 828 = 165 PF 4.8 grains WST 820 854 866 868 869 Avg 855 = 171 PF 4.9 grains WST 847 861 861 842 873 Avg 856 = 171 PF (odd, I expected a bit higher with 4.9) I plan on doing the same with Winchester large pistol primers and some with Winchester small rifle primers.
  18. was the WST softer shooting, not as hot, and cleaner compared to titegroup?
  19. I dont know if anyone else is in the same boat but I'm tired of Titegroup dirtying up my pistol. I'm looking for one powder that will be good for .40 major loaded long out of a Schuemann AET and 9mm minor out of a Glock. I'm thinking of also switching to the green BB's in both than PD's because of the cost. I'll be shooting either the 200's or 180's in .40 and 147 in 9mm. I thought I'd start a post to see what people would recommend after a couple of hours using the search feature and reading about the different powders. N320 is out because of cost which left me considering WST, WSF, and Solo. Any thoughts? I'd like a clean, soft shooting, powder for both calibers. I doubt I will find a replacement for Clays in .45 but dont want to use it for 9 and 40.
  20. It seems you could start a poll with this question since everyone has a different opinion but, I will give it a shot anyway. Can you adjust pretravel down to the point where the trigger safety tab does not engage/function and still be legal for USPSA Limited? I would like to take the pretravel down as far as possible.
  21. I've got both of those sight combos. Hienie/Dawson on a G17 and Warren on my G35 Limited. I like the Warren/Sevigney set up best with the red fiber optic tube. I purchased the narrow rear sight version.
  22. Did a chamber check on in my factory barrel and they dropped in and out pretty easily.
  23. Loaded my first .40 major rounds last night. 180 grain FMJ Precision Delta 4.7 grains titegroup WSP primer 1.135 OAL .420 crimp I'm going to load some with 4.3 grains first and see where it is at on the chrono. My Lee disks will only allow 4.4 or 4.7. I would imagine it will either have to be a 4.4 with a shorter OAL to meet PF or 4.7 with as long as I can fit in the magazine.
  24. I will be using a Lee factory crimp die for the last stage.
  25. I've heard mixed things about this topic. I plan on using once fired police brass (90% Glock fired) with Precision 180 FMJ and Titegroup for a major PF load. I do not plan on reloading the brass after the second shot. I will be firing these rounds out of a factory G35 barrel. I do not have a full length resizing die to get the buldge out. Is it safe to shoot a major PF load one time out of these cases? I'm sure it would be better to just spend the money and get a resizing die but would like to do it without if safe.
