Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. If so, who do I contact? I tried the email for Rocky Mink, but it was returned. A buddy and I are wanting to come down from Pasco on the 9th of June and would like some info. Any help would be much appreciated. I've heard you have an awesome looking range. Thanks, John Nelson
  2. Hey folks, I snagged a .45 Spartan not to long ago and I'm eager to get out and compete. Before I drop my cash on mags, what is the usual recomendation for mags for this particular gun. I've got 2 of the 47d's and they had a couple of hiccups during the first 50 rounds or so, but they've done fine since the initial shooting (meaning 0 ftf's an 0 fte's since the first box of ammo.) I've been shooting bayou bullets 200gr SWC (Which if you haven't tried them, do it now before they turn into international superstars with a 6 month backorders. They are that impressive) and both the 47d's and the mag that came with the gun, which I think is a metalform, work well. The only thing is that I have heard that the metalfom mags create a higher angle for the Spartans. The angle of the bullet is noticeably different compared to the 47d and I'm assuming that is because the follower on the factory mag is convex vs. the 47d which is concave. Is the the Tripp Research mag the answer to all my questions. Anyone with a kowledge about mags or STI Spartans please send me a clue. I need it. Thanks for all the tipps you guys have, John Nelson
  3. I have just recently started to reload the Bayou 200 gr LSWC. I have never loaded LSWC before and was curious as to what some of the more popular powders are used for lead and what their strengths/weaknesses are. I have currently been using 700x, but I am going to run out soon. What powders would you suggest for major power factor in USPSA. These will be shot out of my 5" Spartan when it arrives soon Thanks for the input, John H. Nelson
  4. Hey guys, I've got a Kimber compact seven rd. (4" barrel with officers grip) than I plan on using for my first USPSA outing. I want to use my carry gun in the Single Stack division before I jump head over heals into competition shoot. I was looking to buy some 8 rd mags for it, but I read that you can damage the ejector by over inserting the mag. Wilson make an 8rd mag that has a plastic basepad (model #47DOX) that comes up the base and prevents that specific problem. My question is: When I buy a full size govt (which will happen regardless of continuing in comp. shooting) can I take the basepad off and replace it with a flush pad, or is it totally built for the officer? I have also seen that Chip McCormick offers a basepad that fits on their mags for 4.99, but they were not sure about other brands. Anybody have experience with this? Thanks for any info you may have. I really appreciate this being a new shooter and trying so save a buck or two. John Nelson
  5. Awesome advice. This is exactly the feedback I was looking for. The post on "intro to USPSA" was perfect. More questions: 1. How many mags do I need? Where the best place to purchase them? 2. What are some affordable holsters and mag holders and again where's the best place to purchase those as well? This post has cleared up some questions I have had for quite a while and I'm much appreciative. By the way, I live in the Tri Cities area of Washington if any of you are near by and happen to know of stores for supplies and/or have a goods to sell. John
  6. Hey folks, I am new to this forum, but I have found some great advice. What I would like is anyones opnion on my scenario and the obligatory "what would you do" answer. The more feedback the better. Here is my situation: I have been putting away a bit of cash for a future in competition shooting. I have been carring a Kimber Compact CDP (4" barrel with an officer grip and night sights) for over a year now. My plan was to pick up a Glock 17, mags, and holster and go into production class. I would also like to upgrade to a progressive press from a turret press at some point. Here are my questions 1. Should I go ahead and get the Glock set up (I like the Glock and have not shot an m&p or xd)? 2. Should I shoot the 1911 with 8 rd mags and go for the press (I love reloading, but time is limited and I really want the Hornady AP)? 3. If I shoot the 1911, should I change the sights. Not really a deal breaker because my dad wants to upgrade his Kimber sights and I'm sure he would just get me a decent set in return. 4. Or if any of you guys have any better ideas feel free to put it out there or ask me questions in return. Money is only limited to the time it takes to save it, so I am pretty flexible. Thanks for any advice. When I started shooting trap, forums really helped me get squared away. John
