Usually I never put a mag on my belt that isnt full, but somehow at the match I shot this past weekend I ended up with one in my first mag pouch. I went to do a reload on the stage while I moved between positions, grabbed the mag and luckily my brain went "huh, that feels lighter than normal" by instinct I simply threw he mag away and went for my next one so It turned out ok but it could have easily gone much worse for me because when I went to check the mag after I was done there was one round in it.

I watched a GM revolver shooter try to load an empty moon clip during a stage.  He was not happy.

Well I wasn't going to say anything (look at my signature line), but Lucas Bore Solvent/Ultrasonic fluid is not aqueous based, so it doesn't evaporate.  And it does have a small amount of lubricant in it, so when the parts come out of a hot bath, they're left with a very thin film to protect against flash rust.  And yes, it really does a good job of cutting crud.

Cool Todd.  How do we get free samples?

Patrick I have also seen a fair share of RFRI and RFRO not get picked in steel challenge and that is a division that has been around for awhile.  Probably goes back to same statement from earlier of ROs being in the proper position not necessarily adding equipment.

Hawk21 is absolutely correct about rimfire in steel matches and that's exactly why me and my buddies stopped shooting rimfire.  ROs were not taking the necessary steps to pick up all shots thus making the match unfair to the squads who RO correctly.

Neomet brings up an interesting option with a shotgun mike.  I would prefer not to have the RO attached to me while running since it greatly increases the chance for a collision.  I've never encountered a problem recording shots when the timer sensitivity was increased.  It takes all of 10 seconds to change the setting.

How it fits your hand is the only thing that really matters

How true.  Also, ask your fellow shooters to try their gun.  Of all the sports I've competed in, shooters are by far the most helpful when it comes to trying other people's equipment.

I own a Springfield XD-9 service model that I train with and carry on a daily basis. I have a total of 8k rounds through the pistol. I have been changing the recoil spring, striker spring, striker dampening spring, and striker retaining pin every 4K rounds. Is there anything else I should be replacing or maintaining?

I know one heck of a first post, right?

    Mag springs too.

And keep spares in your range bag for all of those little items.  Nothing like pissing away a $175 match fee cuz you broke a 50 cent pin or spring and didn't have a spare.

I have a Limited .40s&w with factory K40 magazine tubes, Henning 140mm basepads, and Grams followers/springs.  They hold 20 rounds.

I've had this problem twice now, and it screwed my match this weekend pretty hard.

The follower got stuck after a few rounds we're fired.  I had to shake all the rounds out of it, then smack it on a table a few times to get it to release and shoot the follower to the top of the mag.

When I took the mag apart, there was a bullet in the bottom of the mag, under the spring.  I have no clue how this happened.

Any ideas how to remedy this?

I have the same setup but with stock followers and never had that problem.

Do you guys polish the internals of your guns? Or let time and rounds fired do it on its own...

Just a thought. Curious of your two cents.

    Thanks for reading!

    Weev-

Why wait?  I've never had a gun feel different after hundreds of rounds despite what I heard.  I have a few of the 6"  x 1/2" stones listed here:

    https://www.midwayusa.com/polishing-tools-stones-hones-and-abrasives/br?cid=8828

A lot depends on the gun.  A 1911 or revolver trigger job is a much different project than a Glock 25 cent trigger job.  They're all fun projects with tons of YouTube how-to videos out there.

Suppressors are not compliant with rules. Appendix D8 11 Suppressors. No.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Suppressors WILL be allowed for PCCO in steel matches unless the USPSA modifies the proposed rules changes.  (bad idea IMHO)  See appendix I4 from the "Steel Challenge" rules link on this page:  https://www.uspsa.org/uspsa-announcements-details.php?Member-Comment-Wanted---MG-and-SCSA-Rules-318

ROs need to stop being lazy be more diligent.  It's not that difficult to

    1. Adjust the timer sensitivity. (if you don't know how ... just ask another RO)
    2. Hold the timer closer to the muzzle.

    3. Keep the microphone side up.

    4. As someone else mentioned, watch the screen timer increment with each shot.  Ask the score keeper to watch for hits (which they should be doing regardless)

    5. If it's a steel match, check the shot count.  If someone shot a 5 shot string with only 4 recorded shots, it has to be a re-shoot.

You really need to pay attention to this when using the plastic timer covers during rainy matches.  The plastic definitely cuts down on the timer sensitivity.

I also ask the PCC shooter which way they're going to move so I can anticipate and be close enough to record shots.

Item #1 above cures most of the PCC shot recording problems.  Just be sure to reduce the sensitivity back to the normal setting for the non PCC shooters to avoid recording shot echos from adjacent courses.

    What's below 50 F. ?    :D

I usually wear a tight shirt over a tight undershirt, and a winter coat -

wear the coat for the 238 minutes I'm at the range, and  take the

coat off  for the 2 minutes I'm actually shooting    :)

Do same thing for rainy weather - wear a rain resistant top, and

remove it when I get to shoot.

Don't forget the gloves and warm hat.

Exactly what he said.  Walk around with with a jacket or flannel shirt, then  take it off when shooting.

But if you're LEO or mil I guess you would want to practice in your work clothes.

Lucas Bore solvent / ultrasonic cleaner is what I have read is best for cleaning gun parts, although buying enough to fill up a hot tub may require a second mortgage.

Unless you're in the gunsmith business doing a large volume of cleaning ... would it be worth the $400 price tag?

Hello: I shot my Mech Tech today that takes Glock mags. I have a Glock 17 frame on the bottom of it with a Dawson Ice magwell. That thing reloads very quick. I shot it with some reloads I use for my other PCC's and the Acme 122 grain bullets worked very well. The 147's seemed a little sluggish in the Mech Tech. I still need to chrono these with the Mech Tech but they felt pretty good with some quick splits. I also tested out some Magpul mags with Zev base pads. They worked perfectly. I'll try it out tomorrow night at the indoor match and see how it does. Just another option if you have a Glock. Thanks, Eric

The 147s are sluggish in my AR9 also so I stick to the 115s which give me 100% reliability.

  12. I've had no issues resting my PSA 9mm AR on Colt style mags.  In fact, the 32 round mag makes an excellent bench rest.  Mine has a Spikes magblock but look at the picture below.  A frequent culprit for FTE problems is misalignment of the ejector within the bolt ejector channel.  The setup pictured below is good to go.  Sometimes the ejector has to be bent, or some magblocks have adjustment capability for the ejector.  The ejector should be tight to both sides of the channel without touching.  You can feel if it's touching the channel when you pull the charging handle.

Hello folks, looking for a source or contact so I can get a spare to fit a super cylinder to my 327

Thanks for any help your can give.

I did try S&W, in the 15 seconds the guy talked to me it was "no way, have to send it in"

Dave -  I've had MUCH better luck finding small parts on Ebay or Gunbroker.

I apologize for being so late (life happens and it sometimes takes a lot of time) but wanted to again thank mscott for reaming my stainless steel comps from .223 to 9mm.  He did a beautiful job and they look great on the gun.

    Thank you sir.

    Bill

We need more guys like mscott.  I wish I had a mill and/or lathe.  Local machine shops around here charge ridiculous prices for small jobs.
