  1. Hey sbcman welcome to brian's forum good to see other INGO members and southern Indiana shooters here.
  2. I have a 550 that I put on a strong mount. You get a new loaded round chute and bin holder that bolts to strong mount. The original loaded round chute and bin holder works as my bullet tray. Just drill 1 hole a little oversize and put under left rear press bolt. If you need it higher you can get a longer press mount bolt and put as many washers as you need under the old chute to get height where you want it. You can cut off the part that sticks up if you want it to look nicer but it doesn't hurt anything to leave it on.
  3. Nice, do you have a shot from the side with side plate off? Also what kind of rear sight is that?
  4. Warren where can you buy this blade? I have one on My 627 annd like the deeper notch If I can get sight to go down enough I would like to put one on the 625. Stock is .110 isn't it? Thanks
  5. Taller front sight will require rear sight to go up to keep point of impact the same as before. Rear sight should be raised same amount as front sight is higher. Raise rear sight by turning screw counter clockwise. IIRC.
  6. I believe stock front sight is .268 IIRC you should have pleanty of adjustment in rear sight to compensate. I put .300 tall on my 625 works fine. Mine is a 5" gun but I don't think that will make much difference from your 4".
  7. Running low on 230 rn lead for 625. I have never shot 200 gn. bullets at major PF before. Is recoil differance noticable? 200's are slightly cheaper but I have been shooting 230 gn for years without any problems. So what are most of you USPSA shooter using in your 625's? Thanks

    DAO?

Thanks guys I have seen several posts saying that the single action was removed from a gun when it recieved a trigger job and I couldn't see any(mechanical) reason for it.

    DAO?

After messing with and doing basic trigger jobs for several years I can't see any mechanical reason to remove the single action from a revolver unless they are bobbing the hammer and wanting to remove some more weight from the hammer. I don't see that it in anyway affects the double action pull. Am I missing something here?
  10. OK I guess I should have paid more attention in math class Interesting read though. This should spark some discussion.
  11. Another vote for open revolver. ICORE and SC shooters have these guns laying around waiting for another place to use them. Not a huge number of people granted but is it smart to turn anyone away? Also someone wanted an example of a gun that letting production go to 15 rounds would make it obsolete. HK P7 Back in the mid 90's I used one of these in the 13 shot version to make A class limited (only had open and limited back then)shooting minor.
  12. A couple of questions. Have seen several shooters(mostly lower class) shoot a Texas star and leave plates on it and move to next target after missing several times instead of reloading and finishing the star. Does this give the shooter a failure to engage penelty? The RO would have a hard time proving that the shooter shot 3 or 4 shots at one plate and none at the ones they left. Have seen a couple of revolver shooters that engaged 6 poppers from one position and miss the first one and shoot the same one again and leaving one before moving to next target instead of doing a reload and shooting popper. This was a long field course 32 or 34 shots if I remember correctly. From where I was I could see shooter missed and shot same popper again and never shot last popper leaving it standing. When it was scored it was counted as a miss but nobody said anything about a failure to engage. RO might not of seen what happened. Both revolver shooters in the squad did same thing so it the points must not of been worth doing a reload. BTW it was the small poppers and a pretty long shot maybe 60 feet that they missed. Any input? I'm sure at a bigger match a FTE is a FTE but it would be hard to prove in some cases. Thanks
  13. Just got a new 617 and getting ready to do a trigger job and some other things. Was wondering if the extended firing pins help on this gun. Does it take the same ones the centerfires take? Has anyone checked if it contacts the cylinder if dryfired? I usually leave the plastic wall anchors in the gun when dryfiring but was curious if the extended firing pin would hit and do damage. Thanks for any input.
  14. Would a Safariland 002 holster be legal in production class? Is it's placement the same as autos? I see the Moonclip holders can be put anywhere but it is a little vague on holster placement. I think it would be fun to shoot my 627 in production every once in a while.
  15. 8 year old thread back from the dead. Still a good read and needs updated with the X frame This post is the whole story.
  16. Thanks guy that is what I needed to know. Now the search begins.
  17. Looking to get a 617 10 shot for a steel gun and a practice gun. Just wondering those that have one does it come drilled and tapped from the factory for a scope mount? Smiths web sight doesn't say. Thanks in advance
  18. Matt I realize that their are some exceptions but so far most everything I have seen local has been 625's, and one guy shooting a 686 with speedloaders. Actually we are neighbors I live in southern In. by Patoka Lake, about an hour from you. I have been shooting at Southcenteral and Silver Creek in IN. and Owensboro in KY.Do you shoot at these clubs? We will have to look each other up at the matches. Where do you shoot and what(ICORE,SC,USPSA)?
  19. I just returned to competitive shooting after a 14 year break. Thing have changed a lot but some thing havent changed at all, like how to get more people to shoot ect. This is just some thoughts that I would like to see discussed. Since revolver class is pretty much a 625 5 class I wonder if they made revolver class minor PF and moonclipped guns would be scored minor and speed loader guns scored major even though they are shooting minor PF this would help even out the moonclipped guns advantage in speed of reloading. This would open it up to a lot of shooters that have revolvers laying around that arent moonclip guns with out buying a no longer made 625 5. Having just purchased a 8 shot 627 Im not sure what class Im going to shoot it in. Revolver and only shoot six or open with a optic or maybe production, still thinking about all this. Since I quit shooting years ago and now were bifocals I am having a tough time adapting back to iron sights. I think it would be a blast to shoot the 8 shot with a optic, shooting minor in Production. I know the optic would be a sticking point but the bottom feeders have 11 rounds vs. 8 in the revolver. Auto are faster to reload and have better and quicker triggers. On a side note I handled a M&P production gun that a master class shooter shoots at a local match it had a 1.5 lb trigger and short reset felt like a great 1911 trigger. A revolver would never be able to have split times as fast as that gun with most shooter at least. I read some posts about stage design making a revolvers disadvantage less by making six shot target arrays instead of 8 shot arrays. I know it wouldnt be practical but I would like to see a match with 12 shot target arrays it would be interesting to see what happens and how much more competitive a revolver (6 or 8 shots) would be when EVERYONE except open and limited class has to do standing reloads. Just some thoughts I have been thinking over after reading some of the post in this thread. Oh yea I have been having a lot of fun being back at the shoots. I missed it. Hoping to make some bigger matches next year, and trysome Icore, SC, and Uspsa, and MCC.
  20. Thanks for posting that link Ihave been looking for that info. the only difference between Super and SuperComp brass is that the rim is narrower on the SuperComp. The other outside dimensions are the same. http://38super.net/Pages/Brass.html Many guns (i.e. extractors) will reliably extract both cases without adjustment or replacement. There's no need to rush out and buy a new extractor until you try the SuperComp in your gun to see if it will run or not.
  21. I'll swap you for 1 .45 full moon clip
  22. I did a search and read pages of info some of it a few years old. I quit shooting competition back in 97 and recently started again(shooting some of my bottom feeders that I still have from the day). I used to shoot Uspsa and SC stuff as Icore was fairly new and mainly west coast at the time. I used revolver in steel shoots and shot several USPSA matchs with the revolver. I sold some of my stuff when I quit including a 627 8 shot.357 and 10 shot 617. Really sorry about that now At least I kept a couple 625's. Anyway I have USPSA revolver covered with 625. I still love the red dot on my open guns, especially that my eyes are 15 years older now than before, stupid bifocals. Looking at a 627 8 shot and wondering about caliber. I would like to shoot gun in USPSA open class making major PF. and shoot ICORE and steel with lighter loads. I have tons of super and super comp brass. Also have lots of .38 and .357 brass. I see alot of people are shooting .38 short or long colt, will this make major PF for USPSA? I would have to buy this brass so that is a consideration. I like the idea of a comp on the .38 super guns from the performance center, although I'm not sure how effective it is on a revolver. Do the super guns have a different end cap that does away with the comp so you can switch back and forth? I know the super gun are a little harder to find and a little more expensive but what is everyones opinion on these two guns and anything else I missed in comparing these two guns. Thanks for any input that helps this returning shooter.
  23. Looking to get back into revolver competition and need some info. Would like one holster to do all. USPSA, Icore, and SC. and any barrel length. Last match I saw a guy with a holster that held gun by the trigger guard and rest of gun was open. I assume this would be legal in all the differant games? I didn't get a chance to talk to him so I don't know who made it. I sure their are better options than my old Earnie Hill rig. Search didn't show a lot of options. Thanks
  24. I shot USPSA years ago and quit in 1997. Recently shot a couple of local matches and had fun. If I rejoin USPSA do I go back to the class I was shooting in 1997 or do I start from scratch? I also assume that I get my old number that I had? Thanks for any input.
