  1. I don't have a trigger scale so I can't help you there. It sure is lighter then with the previous one which was a 18lb but I don't have a good idea what the weight is. The takeup makes it hard for me to estimate it. I'll guess that the SA is about 3.5 but I also have the original untouched hammer/sear and that I am baseing that number of the relative weight compared with my 1911 (4.5lb) but it is a rough thing as they differ greatly in feel. What primers are you using? I'm using Winchester primers with no problems. If you reload, I wonder if you are sitting them deep enough or are you partially sitting them with your firing pin?

  2. I think the new mag springs fixed it. I just shot about 300 rounds with two powder loads and two different lengths (for a combo of 4 different loads) and I had only one of the failure during the first mag shot. I wonder if the problem is that weak mag springs allow top round to be pushed forward by the bottom of slide. I also tightened up the feed lips a bit. I think the slight change of geometry and the higher upwards pressure are the solution for me. I'll let you know if the problem comes back during this weekend'd match.

  3. I replaced my mag springs and pressed the mag lips in a bit as they seemed to have loosened up a bit and today I fired 300 rounds with only one failure with the first magazine I shot. I think the problem is cured unless it is heat dependent and it will crop back up every stage as I shoot with a cold gun, while today my gun got quite warm.

  4. This is one of those strange areas, where half of us are going "Hmm, who doesn't want to carry a FAL everywhere?" and the other half going "Maybe that is not a smart thing to do at a con". Personally I am about to split in half on the issue. Funny stories though.

  5. I've never encoutered any stage where the safety had to be applied after the beep. So it seems pretty realistic to me.

iPsc and usPsa and all that ... realistic during course of fire doesn't mean realistic in real life ...

That thread drift aside, I like the CZ safety because I can rest my thumb on it just like that of a 1911. On a B92 I can't do that.

  6. DDog, I'm sure that the one that Angus has rules, but if he doesn't yet sell it, the one from Northpass/Hi-viz is decent and works well with the factory rear sight. It also just drops into the funny CZ sight cut. I would have liked the dot to be smaller, but I sure like it better then the factory front sight.

  7. Though I was overall disapointed with place, some of the things listed already do need to be visisted. My favorite place to eat is Rita's on Charles St ( around the 950's). My wife and I ended up there after the recommandations of some of the locals and we both loved it. If you get the chance take a boat tour of the swamps around there (Cyrus was the old man that took us along and hand fed the aligators but I don't remember the name of the company, there are a couple of them) and get out of the town if you get the chance and visit some of the old plantations.

  8. Hmm, I just ordered a whole mess of springs from Wolff (recoil, hammer, mag) so I can experiment. I do however wonder about the brass. GTOShooter noticed the problem with Winchester white box and I know that some of my brass started its life that way so now I wonder if the brass is part of the problem too. Hmm.

  9. Hi all,

Lately I have been getting a number of FTE's with my CZ75B 9mm and I think they are related to me adjusting my load down after I got a chrony. The failure I see is that the spent case is half way out of the chamber and the new round is fed under it locking up the whole mess. The extractor is new and looks good and I have a new Wolf extrator spring, the plus power kind which hold the case pretty well. What I think happens is that the slide does not fully cycle and doesnt hit the ejector fast enough. I'm going to try loading a bit hotter to verify that this is the problem.

Right now I am running a 12lb recoil (-2lb vs factory) and (I think) a 18lb hammer spring (also -2lb vs factory). My current load is 3.2TG under 147gr FMJ, which makes about 132PF according to my chrono.

So what do people run in their CZ's as spring weights? I can up my load, as the 3.4TG load I started with did not have this problem, but it also made 138PF and that is a bit much.

  10. I found that all glasses screwed with my earmuff seal and I recently went to high NR ear plugs. And on topic, I just shot my first match with my prescription glasses and they were Rudy. I certainly like the glasses, but the only complaint I have is that the prescription insert is a bit to small for my face and I see the outer rims a bit more then I would like. Look me up next time you come to Old Bridge and you can take a look at mine, I use a pair of Rydons.

Jim Norman swears by his RB3's and maybe you can get to look at his too.

The cool thing about the Rudy glasses is that you only need on set of prescription lenses no mater how many color ones you want.

  11. Dermabond and vetbond are kickass things, from what I hear. Various versions of it can be used as replacements for normal stitches or staples. It is not cheap and the human version is even more expensive at about $45 perl .05mL. Vetbond can be found cheaper and as far as I can tell it is the same thing. The extra cool thing about them is that they have an antibotic effect thus fighting infection while keeping the wound closed. As far as I understand it they are related to crazyglue but not quite teh same thing. In a pinch you could use crazy glue to close a wound but it is not as flexible and lacks the infection fighting bits. I've recently ordered some to add to my first aid kits

    The human version:

  12. In my opinion, it is "A new Hope". That aside, I rewatched "Return of the Jedi" recently and I noticed something. If you pay attention to the movie you will notice that NOT A SINGLE MAJOR CHARACTER AFFECTS THE OUTCOME. Not a one. They all have very dramatic lines and striking poses, but the winning combination was a bunch of Eowks and hairy ape taking control over the power station, and the marginalized pirate/smuggler driving a borrowed ship with the help of the nameless many in the rebel fleet. All the main characters could have died half way through the movie and the result might have been the same. Hell, Wedge had more to do with it then Luke or Leia or Han.

    Just something I noticed.

  13. Any body see a prize table at the Olympics in Athens????

Yup, you betcha, yes siree Bob! It is called the multi million endorsment game and it has some odd rules which much resamble a prize table for the top 16. You can argue that it isn't official but it is there anyway.

Sure, if you do well at the Olympics (or any other major sporting event), you will probably be showered with lucrative sponsorship deals, but this is entirely a result of your medal placing or general performance, not because the winner of the "Clean & Jerk" went to a prize table and chose a protective cup lined with the fur of an albino Siberian Minx.

Ok, that was funny. The problem is that now I have the image in my head and that cup actually sounds kind a fun in a perverse way.

That aside, I doubt the the top shooters compete for the prize table or the "deals" to be had after. I think all top competitors worth he name compete for placement, regardless of the sport. I'm just saying that there are real hard cash prizes to be had for placing high in both fields. However sponsorship numbers in shooting sports are no where near as impressive and they are supplemented with prize tables. I'll bet you that if Dave S. or Eric or pick your favorite shooter, got his picture on a box of Cheerios or the commercial for his brand of boots and the million dollar conrtact, the prize table wouldn't really be a big issue for anyone.

Just my opinion. I am not likely to EVER win anything so it doesnt apply to me presonally, but I am all for prize tables if it attracts extra shooters or brings exposure to new products or if it is just for fun.

  14. Not an official response, but the high cap law in NJ says max of 15 rounds, but you can own, purchase, and travel with higher capacity mags as long as they are blocked to 15, and the block need not be permanent. I just picked up an AR 20 rd mag at the local shop, pre blocked, just because I didn't have one. The common NJ thing to do is to stick a wood dowel of the right length in the magazine. A .308 case works great for some 30 round AR mags for example.

Newark is a good place to fly into, or at least a lot better then any airport in NY.

    YMMV

  15. Another thing to try is a 3000ci backpack. I use a Kelty Redwing Classic for my laptop and general crud. It looks like a slightly larger school pack which to me is a bonus as it doesn't scream "Laptop!" to the scum. I mine I fit my Micron laptop, various electronic bits, a rain jacket, firstaid kit, and 30 other small things and I have room to spare. Heck I could even add a hydration pack and not drown the laptop. It would be no problem to fit a small printer in there, or even a desktop model. A nice backpack with compression straps can also be shrunk down to the minimum size so thing dont rattle and roll.

    It works for me.

  16. I have a good budy (who may read this and poke me later as he posts here) who uses "Likeyouknow" as every other word. He is a bright guy and he even knows he does it. I mentioned it to him a couple of days ago when he said "likeyouknow" 6 or 7 time in a row while trying to make a point but never getting to it. He maintains that sometimes his brain gets stuck in a loop. On the bright side, according to him this also happened to him in high-school but then he was stuck on the much worse "dude!"

  17. Another thing to consider is stupid state laws. For example in New Jersey a loaded magazine in your range bag next to your unloaded handgun is considered a loaded gun. This being a no carry concealed, open, in your car, drive straight home kinda state, leaving a loaded mag in you bag to and from range is a really bad idea as it would be a felony.

  18. Two things come to mind ...

First if you can't own a goat is it ok if you rent a couple? I'm not joking, there are businesses out there for that(e.g. http://www.citlink.net/~covingtonfarms/)

Secondly, just think of it as IPSC and see how many widgets you can hang of your mower, with compesated pipes, stipled stering wheel, multiple red dots for guidance, spare gas tanks, chromed everything, and tungsten blades. It may not mow the lawn any faster, but think of the look on the neighbors faces. And then the real work starts, because you will need to find the perfect fuel load with the right mixture of smooth and power, not to mention the the types of adjustable pedals and .... I should stop now.
