  1. Brian, you and I might get along nicely....I too am an INTP. I'm currently finishing my PhD in clinical psychology and conduct psychodiagnostic assessments weekly. The Myers Briggs Type Indicator is one of the tools I use when conducting career counseling. I have also been studying Zen Buddhism for a few years now, so when I saw your book, it was a natural extension of the systems I have been training in for years.
  2. Recently discovered why my support hand was always coming loose from the frame and thought I would share this little bit of insight with those who may be struggling with this issue. In addition to checking out all of the basic requirements of a good grip, make sure you check to ensure that you're not OVER-camming the support hand! HA! When people would look at my grip, they'd say, "man, that looks perfect; I don't know why you're having problems." Well, now I know! I know, perhaps too much excitement this early in the morning, but hey, if it even helps one person bypass the crap I had to go through to figure this out, fantastic! (oh yeah, in the section for topics that don't fit anywhere else, you can read about my current grip problem...haha).
  3. I have an SA Champion and recently found the "sweet spot" for the palm of my support hand. Before I found it, my support hand would loosen from the gun. Was shooting really really well.....Now I bought Wilson, which is awesome, but of course, the frame of a Wilson is slimmer than an SA. Now I'm having difficulty getting a good spot behind the grip panel for my support hand palm. I finally acquired the grip, and now I lost it due to a few hundredths of width difference???? ACK! I'm going nuts here. I know that I could just buy thicker grips or grips with palm swells, but dammit, I'm hard-headed and want to be able to shoot this pistol stock - as is. Any suggestions?
  4. Ok, it's not time for me to change my barrel out. Went to the range, warmed up a little, then loaded my mag with 3 rounds and shot at a target at 7 yards. The group was just barely larger than the diameter of a single 9mm round. The group was touching the line of the bullseye (1" bullseye). It's amazing how much slack this gun can have and still be capable of producing groups like this. I shot some more groups and was very pleased with the result (none of the others were as tight as the one already mentioned, but each were well under an inch). When my G19 is no longer capable of producing groups like that, I'll switch out the barrel. Wonder how long that will take....
  5. Thanks for the info. I have noticed that the trigger pull has changed a little since this has happened. It's annoying. At least with my 1911 I don't worry about the slide moving around (yes, the slide does appear to be moving). Sorry, just frustrated. I bought a Glock so I could afford to shoot it!!! I'm sure it'll be ok....or I hope anyway.
  6. Well, I don't know...that's why I'm asking. Kinda' new to the whole shooting thing. hey HighTech: what barrel did you go with?
  7. oh yeah, it's got the stock recoil setup in it.
  8. I noticed that when my G19 is empty, if I press down on the barrel hood, I can feel a little play. It has 4000 or so rounds through it and just recently began to do this. When loaded, it doesn't budge. Anything to worry about?
  9. tried it today....AGrip rocks.
  10. Thanks for all the feedback. I'm trying the AGrip stuff tomorrow at the range, but if that doesn't do it, then I'm "ridin' bareback!"
  11. Just curious about what others are using to enhance grip on their Glocks....
  12. what is that wrapped around your grip?

    Limited G35

Disclaimer - Newbie's opinion: just installed the Custom Glock Racing tuned 3.5 lb. connector....I like it. Seems effortless to get good follow up shots. I'm also about to put a set of heinie straight-eights (sights) on my G17 and G19. To me, they're some of the best.
  14. Got it! thanks.....I was replacing the connector with a CGR 3.5#'er.....the trigger is now going to take some getting used to! Any of you have experience with it? Improve your shooting at all? I won't be able to take mine to the range until tomorrow.
  15. Dissambled and tried to reassembly my Glock....have never done this before. Upon reassembly, I got stuck when attempting to put the slide lock pin through....i think i may have done this wrong and attempted to put it through left to right....anyway, the thing appears to be half-way stuck and I can not, for the life of me, pull it out or push it through....any suggestions?
  16. in addition to the wonderful tips provided above, i'll add one thing that has really helped me along....i will go to the range and *slowly* begin prepping to shoot.....while others are shooting, I notice that I flinch and blink sometimes.....what I'll do is distract myself with something else....like loading a mag while thinking about my shooting session goals. what i'll begin to find without awareness is that my blinking stops. Then I start shooting....if I'm blinking, then I need to focus on what's important, like sight picture, grip, trigger control, etc.....this "refocusing" technique helps me.

    Thanks All!

hehe, yeah, I'm pretty much staying with plastic for a while..... We'll have to get together sometime in the near future.
  18. Just wanted to thank all of you for your great tips. I got my grip ironed out and am fairly consistently shooting groups with my 9mm that can be covered with a dime at 21 feet. My speed has gone up tremendously, and for the first time, two or three pieces of brass are in the air at once. Life is great. Thanks again!

    Tipping Over A Vase

Ok, here's one that relates to shooting quite well....I don't remember it verbatim and I'm not around my texts, so I'll give it a go with what I recall. A monk is hanging from a tree branch that overhangs the nadir of a canyon...it's a far drop! Another man comes up and asks him "Where is Bodhidharma?" If you were the monk, how would you answer? Answer: Let go and scream KATZ! The answer is in the letting go....

    Tension

yeah, it does happen that when I relax I can track a bit better, but I have grip problems...w.hen I apply tension with my thumbs (see the other post) in a slight downward fashion, the gun stabilizes but tracking suffers......I hope in time I get it figured out.
  21. went out yesterday and had some success.....what i discovered for *my* shooting is the weirdest thing.....basically, if I push my thumbs with some downward tension, the gun stabilizes! I can relax a whole lot more and it worked with a G19 and G36 (although with the G36, my fingers accidentally hit the mag release...haha....no problem though, it wasn't my gun so at least I know to never buy that one). Now I just have to work on consistent tracking.....hmm....
  22. flex: for me, my problem with trigger control is actually more a problem with my platform overall. I'm too tight all over! when shooting slow, I hit sub-1 inch groups out to 10 yards.....when I shoot faster, my whole body gets seized up and I'm pushing the gun all around.
  23. sam: nope, this problem has been around regardless of weather conditions. graywolf: it sounds like you've got enough grip avaiable, but perhaps you are struggling with something similar to what I've been struggling with. Pain in the ass, isn't it?!?! I'm at work right now and I'm dying to get to the range. It's been one of those weeks where work takes a back seat to thinking about shooting.

    Tension

i have his video series....helpful, but i guess i still need more help. also, i'm so busy that it's hard to find time to travel.

    Tension

well, i'm inspired to try shooting relaxed again with only enough tension to bring the gun up in front of me....it's such an interesting process of going from both extremes to find what works. I think the tension in my support arm may be what's causing me lots of problems....because there is tension, the gun is just stripped out of my support hand at times; i.e., i'm not letting it go with the gun.... I always like to say that you have to let the pendulum swing far in both directions before it comes back to center.
