  1. yep, the limbo allusion was intentional. I'm not at home right now to look at the book....will do so later. 5lbs for the "first double action shot." A glock only has one kind of trigger pull, so it must be 5lbs? Sorry if if I'm missing the point here....I'm trying to understand it so I don't do anything inadvertantly illegal at a match.
  2. I'm a Yankees fan, but I believe Boston really deserved this win, even though it was painful to watch the ALCS. They have a fantastic team....great bullpen and every player is a hitter. What can I say? The Red Sox "is my daddy."
  3. cool! good to hear. The 5# connector is no fun.
  4. I have a Glock and was wondering about what trigger mod.'s can be made while remaining adherent to the production division rules...it seems a lot of people use 3.5# connectors (perhaps resulting in a 4.5# trigger pull), but I though I read that the trigger weight can not drop below 5#.....is the 3.5# connector illegal then?
  5. A singlestack doesn't give me enough bearing surface to wrap my paws around the grip in a comfortable manner. I don't have big hands, but the feel of a singlestack is "awkward." I'm always trying to figure out exactly how to get my hands wedged onto the darn thing. I was informed that the .40 STI I shot after a match last weekend may have been sprung way too high ('twas flip-a-licious)....I'm hoping to go to this particular range that actually rents out competitive handguns so I can try 'em all out. If none of 'em fit, then I'm sticking with Glock.
  6. ding ding ding! you get the prize! yep, the mag release gets covered on both sides.....like I said, I'm getting rid of it...
  7. I'm new, but I've been paying a lot of attention to visual patience....I definitely know when I am not employing it, that's for sure....in practice, I do fine and am calling most of my shots....but upon mentally reviewing a match I shot yesterday, I realized that I wasn't seeing the sights on follow up shots for close targets....when I though about it, I realized that I was looking for bullet holes (which I almost never do in practice) and occasionally my eyes went to the next target before the shot broke. Great learning experience.....
  8. I will definitely be ordering some of Eric's stuff in the future (have some other grip tape coming in already). I got to handle a gun with Eric's tape on it yesterday, and I really liked it quite a bit.
  9. where do you get the blue training mags? which method do you prefer? Thanks for all the great suggestions!
  10. firmgrip? is that like A-grip?? I *am* using A-grip and was wondering if that might be causing any problems.....I'm taking that off this week, so perhaps the problem will be fixed. I do not have this problem with my other Glocks. If that doesn't work, I'll try the sandpaper route.
  11. Does wiping them down with a silicone cloth work as well as the armor-all?? I only ask 'cause I tried the silicone cloth already and it didn't work.
  12. A chronic problem that I am having is that the mags will not drop free from my Glock...they require a snap of the wrist to get them to move, and when they finally do, they do so lazily. I'm shooting production. Mags are brand new. Is there any way to fix this problem?
  13. Yeah, the 38 super I shot is a compensated pistol...lots of fun. Now that I've been shooting 9mm almost exclusively, shooting anything else feels heavy in the recoil department. Also, I no longer like the grip angle of a 1911 compared to that of the Glock. I shot an STI in .40 yesterday and that gun felt like it was going to flip to the celing. Looks like I may just stay with Glock in 9mm. It stinks for shooting anything but production given the scoring for minor, but oh well. It's what I can handle comfortably, I guess.
  14. Easy for you to say, sasquatch. I get cold opening the freezer door on my fridge. Bob, if you're shooting on Saturday, lemme know.
  15. Larry: so far I have been exclusively shooting outdoors since the lead exposure was diagnosed, but it's getting cold here in the back woods of West Virginia, and the only way I'm going to be able to shoot it seems is outdoors. As long as the weather on Saturdays is bearable and NOT raining, I may be able to shoot outdoors.

    Finger bite

yep, i'm with these guys....chances are it's the little safety lever that's causing the pain, unless you're allowing too much of your finger on the trigger (which is the only way I could possibly see how your finger would get pinched between the trigger and trigger guard). Use the tip of your finger, and with enough dry firing, you won't even notice it anymore....unless there's some medical reason why that would be impossible.
  17. hehehe.....no, but it's a start. I'm looking forward to the next match...would be happy to go. point taken about the choice of platform. it's just disappointing, but not the end of the world.
  18. my grip, from what others tell me, is just fine....it's certainly cammed correctly. I've shot an STI open gun in 38 super (Kingman's gun) and that was very easy to shoot. Perhaps it's a combination of the platform and caliber. As Kingman stated, I do tend to shoot the Glock better than the 1911, but......well, you know....it's the damn allure. I'll definitely let you know what I find this weekend. I'm putting on the old respirator and going to an indoor range (blech)....(in my best Darth Vader) LUKE, I am your father!
  19. I definitely do keep the elbows bent and get a forward lean to my stance, but perhaps, as Flex has suggested, I need to get a little more aggressive....
  20. Why am I getting "pushed around" by my .45. I'm riding the recoil, everything appears right, and I'm getting decent hits, BUT, steve moneypenny and Kingman have both noticed that when I shoot the 1911 .45, my body moves a bit from the recoil. I asked this question earlier and people gave me a few suggestions: 1. shoot a match - I finally did....twas a rockin good time 2. spring down - I'm running a 14 lb. with a shok buff 3. load lighter - can't yet...hi lead exposure so I'm not supposed to do any reloading. The movement does affect me as it slows down my reacquisition a little bit, and my stance has to be absolutely perfect to make sure I'm not getting pushed backwards. I only weigh about 155, and since I'm shooting full power loads, I'm wondering, do I need to stick to a lighter caliber or is there something else I can do? I want to be able to shoot my .45 for certain things, like L-10 major. Right now, I'll be shooting a 9mm in production, but I don't want to be limited to just that.
  21. Thanks again....I'm really excited to be shooting matches. Flex: you were right about splits....not as important as everything else. Steve: not true. You and Bob still outshot me. By the way, I think I have one of your mags.
  22. Just wanted to share that I shot my first match yesterday (Production). It was pretty fun and I didn't shoot anybody, so cheers!
  23. I just had a stovepipe and a couple FTF's with my Kimber after about 2000 rounds....it has a 14 lb. spring and a CP buff (I use full power factor ammo - Federal red box).....Kingman bent my extractor a bit, so hopefully that will work. If not, should I remove the buff? change spring weights??

    Newbie

Steve, I'm still waiting for the four I ordered from Topglock....others have received theirs, so I'm guessing mine will come in soon. You, of course, still have first dibs on the two G17 mags if you want 'em. As for getting that 10th round into the low-cap mags, you might want to look at the legs of the follower...I've heard of people grinding them down to fit the 10th in there on the G30's....on my G19, I've had no such problems.
