  1. Coming from patterning loads when I shot trap and then using same loads as 3-gun, the actual amount of pellets on target with 1/8 difference in load is negligible. It actually matters more in trap/5-stand because you can break a bird with an extra few pellets, I wouldn't say the same for steel. Even so we went to 1oz and some to 7/8s for trap. I also have a MEC9000 and realistically, you can buy Walmart  1 1/8 shells and do just as well. There's lots more going on with velocity, trajectory, pattern, etc when shooting a bird moving along at 40mph vs a static piece of steel. I'm using reclaimed and homemade shot and it works as well as new lead in 3gun. You wont be reloading the volume you do with trap either. I reload because its fills the ADD-OCD in me. My favorite powders are e3 (17.5g, 1oz, DR XL1 wad, AA shell, Nobel Sport primer) and some tightwad I have right now (18.6g, 1oz, DR XL1, AA Shell, Cheddite primer). A 1oz load with a really fast powder makes for lesser recoil. I've tried 7/8 on steel and feel that is indeed light and requires a better pattern and more precise hit. Then again, I have some whomping 1 1/4 field loads (30g WSF) than will spin the spinner on  one hit!

  2. bulge the barrel... well it was either setback or I squibbed and didn't know it. I know its kinda hard to overcharge 9 major. I used 8.5g HS6 and it pretty much fills it. I would thin a squib would be catastrophic and being an RO for some time I usually pick up on that. It felt like a smack to my palm, that's about it. You are right on reloading technique, though I have been doing it for years and done 1,000's for this gun and others - it only takes one!

  3. First mishap with any of my guns - bulged the barrel on my STI GrandMaster 9mm with the two port T1 comp trubor. Would I replace this with the same barrel or go with the T2 comp with 3 ports? Forget STI and go with a Schumann or something else?

  4. it looks like the round is not pointing at the breach, just below it so most impact the upper part of the ramp on the way in. Is that mag catch? It appears that even with that situation the mags are running ok - at least with me manually racking the rounds with each full magazine.

  5. Hi,

I load RMR 124s (they are actually 125 on my scale). OAL is 1.168 and I use for my gun (STI GrandMaster Trubor) 8.4g of HS-6. I'm getting ~175 pf out of it but my gun appears to be slow (like the owner). Plenty of grip on the bullet but they do look different because they are much rounder than PDs or MGs.

  6. ok, so tuning the mags - rear feed lip at .350 and front at .360 - still hit the feed ramp pretty solid. Opened it up to .370 and now bullet points right at the breach or just hit top of feed ramp. Going by Atlas recommendations was .350x.360 but you should check to see that the bullet points at the breech. Go figure, I'll see with some live fire and next match.

  7. Hello all,

Boy I wish my eyes were still good and I could still shoot limited with a 100% gun and mags.

Anyway, have an STI GrandMaster Trubor in 9mm major. My load is 124g JHP @ 1.168 with 8.4 HS-6 which runs ~175pf and gun operates the load with no issue. I have fits with the magazines. They are 2 old style STI 140mm, 1 old style STI 170mm (28 rnds), and 1 new style STI 9mm/38 super (29 rnds). They ran good for a short period of time and now its almost every stage they hiccup. It appears to be primarily nose-dives. I put Hardy spacers in them, actually had to in the "new" STI to get it to run right. They all have Grams guts with Dawson basepads.

I am going through each one with a tuning kit and replacing all the mag springs even though they are about 4mos old. I do shoot a lot. I have heard all kinds of advice including dump them and go MBX. I'd rather not and giving it one last try. I have done searches and though informative, don't really give good advice as it seems more opinion.

So, tuning all feed lips .350-.355 in front to .005-.010 to back, replacing springs, keeping spacers (should these be glued?). Recoil spring is 9lbs and about 3mos old - gun shoot pretty flat.

Like I said if this doesn't work I'll be buying MBXs because I have enough problems shooting on my own without Gffing every other stage.

    Thanks!
